G Zach Fucale (2013, 36th, MTL)

Lol.

I guess his 5 year QMJHL career is a small sample size too?

Defensive rookie of the year
All time Mooseheads leader in wins
Memorial cup win
U18 Gold
U20 Gold

He has been winning for years. When he wins, people talk about stats and SV%. When those are good, they say he plays behind strong teams.

People are not making conclusions based on the past few games. They are giving him credit for the past 5 years of work.

That's reality friend.[/B]

If you are replying to me, I don't know why you are bringing up what other people are saying as if I have some inherent bias towards Fucale. I want him to succeed. Using solely wins (and his trophy from 4 years ago) as the only metric is just a horrible, horrible argument...and given that those were all you brought up, I assume you don't watch him play because otherwise you would realize that wins are a very small sliver of how to gauge a goalie prospect. He could win 5-4 and let in 3 softies, and there would still be a group of people shouting 'what a winner!!' and it looks like you are in that camp.

What is the quality of his play, how does he handle volume, no volume, rebound control, positioning, athleticism. That's what I'm interested in. He's got decent positioning but his rebound control is not good at all. Average in the league. A good prospect, but not great. Not from what I've watched.

Now tell me about your black and white 'winner' reality again?

If Fucale can win another Q title + Mem cup he would be one of, if not the most decorated goaltenders in junior history.

Haters gonna hate

Fucale wasn't good... he was spectacular during a 5 min PK tonight. One of the best junior goaltender sequence I've seen.

Trophy from 4 years ago? Why are you ignoring him winning gold 4 months ago? Or why are you ignoring what he is doing in the playoffs?

People want yo tear him down when he didn't put up stellar numbers, but don't give him credit when he does or when he wins. Maybe he was getting bored being in the Q for a 4th year. Who knows.

He is 19 years old. He is not a phenom. He will have a few years in the AHL to get ready for the next level. I agree, he is a good prospect. But not so long ago people were saying he was horrible.

I think he had a real tough year, but the guy is a gamer, almost Quick like elevating in important games. Always liked him but hes definitely not a sure bet, reminded me of Cujo coming up big at the most important times and games.

They had 6 dangerous shots tonight. Not exactly a difficult shutout for Fucale. I'm rooting for the kid but as has already been said in the Habs prospect thread, he is going to have to show more over a larger sample size. I think it'd be very presumptuous to make any conclusions based on the past few games.

Not excuses, just reality my friend.

The only conclusion anybody is making is that he is having a great playoffs right now. That is all that matters, what he is doing right now. He will obviously have to prove himself at higher levels but until he actually has a chance to do that, we will marvel at he is doing right NOW. Nobody can predict anything else that will happen but he has set himself up perfectly to succeed. He may end up being a backup or an average starter, but he could also end up being a superstar. Only time will tell, but whatever happens he has had a damn impressive junior career and THAT is reality.

Fucale like Dansk is overrated, it will be obvious again pretty soon. At the level he is now too many missing elements, including key ones like glove hand and rebound control.

I don't find his recovery speed to be that great either, and lateral movement speed pretty average. But he can improve all these things. You just never know with goalie prospects.

He seems pretty good but seemingly great goalie prospects fizzle out at the pro level all the time. Time will tell.

Fucale versus McDavid, the hottest goalie in the CHL versus the hottest player. Anyways Fucale is much better then Dansk. Fucale hasn't lost his starting job yet. Dansk did in the playoffs.

Habs would be better off trading Fucale

20 yo goalies don't really have much value on the trade market. They start getting value when they prove they can play at the NHL level. Habs should develop him and then trade him if he develops well, just like LA with Bernier.

Fucale stopped 40 of 41 shots to lead Quebec over Rimouski. His save% in the playoffs is over .922 which is excellent for QMJHL hockey.

When the chips are down, the kid produces.

I'll give him props for his SV% in the playoffs, but I ask where this was earlier when he was rocking that sub .900. He wasn't even that good when he got traded to the Remparts. What changed? Is it a Pavelec-ian hot streak?

There's two reasons imo. The Remparts are playing better in front of him, limiting the scoring chances. And it is the playoffs, and Fucale is just really clutch. And i might add that he is a very good young goaltender, even if some people likes to think otherwise, for some reason...

Young goaltenders have rough patches. Its a right of passage, especially in the unpredictable world of the QMJHL. Fucale had a rough year but he has turned it around in spectacular fashion, and he has done so during the most important time of the year. That's what i want in a young goaltender. A guy who can dominate and steal games.

Fucale has talent and is a competitor. His consistency will be developed in time. For a former 2nd round pick, i wouldn't expect much more than that.

Nothing wrong with people giving him his due. Good for him on stepping up to the plate when it counted most this year after some struggles.
