Parsons going at #54 was excellent value. If he went in the 30's I would have thought that would have been fair for him in this draft. He was one of the 3 best Goalies I would have picked this draft. Gustavsson and Hart the others.

Both he and Hart doing their thing:

Hart, an 18-year-old product of Sherwood Park, AB, maintained a record of 6-2-1-0 during November, with an astounding 1.11 goals-against average, .959 save percentage and three shutouts, all of which came consecutively to close out the month.

Named Goalie of the Month in WHL.

Both should be at WJC.

I think most people who drafted a goalie in round 2 and early 3rd are fairly happy right now with their performances. Only one of Hart, Parsons, Gustavsson, Fitzpatrick and Woll not putting up good number comparative to their situation is Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick and Sherbrooke have hit a rough stretch recently hurting his numbers. Up until five games ago Fitzpatrick was one of the top goalies in the QMJHL. Despite the past five games Fitzpatrick still has a 0.60 QS% which is really good.

He was my #1 ranked Goalie from the 2016 draft. From a Canadian perspective, I fear him in a 1 game elimination game. He is quite capable of stealing a W on his own. It could come down to a Hart-Parsons showdown in the WJC. But what impressed me about Parsons in London, is he is a big game goalie. Should make for interesting viewing in the WJC.

Continue to be impressed with Tyler Parsons. Calgary have a real good one here. Named Player of the game in the semi final game against Russia, he continues to excel in pressure games.

Good call.

Great game from him. Such a dominant butterfly goalie. Surprised no one tested him up high as he has such a wide stance leaving that upper third of the net open for business.

Don't see many goalies like him anymore in the NHL.

Parsons stole the World Junior finals game today 46 saves and no goals against in the shootout. Kids a winner. Memorial Cup last year and now a WJC.

Parsons is absolutely GOLDEN.

Was hilarious reading comments from USA fans throughout the whole tournament saying that Woll should've been the starter over him.

Goalies don't get more clutch than this guy.

If it wasn't evident after Parsons won the Memorial cup last year with a 17 game winning streak, then it should be evident now that he's an incredibly clutch goaltender. He has such a mastery of the mental side of goaltending, I have zero doubt that he's going to be an NHL goalie--and a good one at that.

As much as Dvorak, Marner and Tkachuk get the credit for the Memorial cup win, Parsons was the MVP in my eyes.

I hadn't had the pleasure of watching him much before this tourney. The biggest thing I noticed about him is his ability to track the puck, and how he seems to have ice in his veins. Nothing flinched him last night and he made some huge saves in the 3rd to keep his team in it and get them into overtime.

100%

Some games he will let in 2 quick ones to start the game and with any other goalie I'd be bracing myself for a beatdown from the other team or begging for the goalie to be pulled, but Parsons always seems to have the ability to bounce back and keep the team in the game.

He virtually never has a bad game overall.

In the game against Russianhe was insane in the third period. Despite getting run multiple times he was able to make the big saves when needed.

If you are a Flames fan, be excited. It's not easy to find Goalies that have that winner's quality in them. Stats do not always tell the story for Goaltending. I recall Fuhr was like this during the Oilers dynasty years.

The ability to make a big save, or to keep a team in a game, or to shut the door when is needed is rare in Goaltenders.

Parsons seems to be developing this reputation early on.

He may follow Matt Murray as being one of the better young money goalies in the NHL.

Parsons was a late 2nd rd pick, and before the draft last year I posted I would happily pay that price. I don't recall if I posted this, maybe I did. I would have even invested a low 1st rounder given how important a winning goalies is in the NHL.

Congrats Calgary.

He looked solid, but I still think Gillies may be Calgary's best hope for the future between the pipes. With goalies you never know though...

Parsons certainly looked a lot better at the WJC than Mason McDonald did for Canada last year.

Here is a very nice write up on Parsons by by Ryan Pyette, of The London Free Press worth sharing.

Some highlights. The bolded is the part that impressed me about Parsons prior to the draft. Fresh off a gold medal where he slammed the door it OT and the shootout, it is this ability that continues to impress me. Well deserved recognition for Tyler, I thought he was an unsung hero of sorts for London in the Knights Memorial Cup win.

Best Knights goalie ever?

Tyler Parsons, after his world junior gold medal performance in Montreal, has pushed himself into that conversation.

He still has his NHL future ahead of him, so it will be a while before we find out if he has the kind of pro career of a Pat Riggin. He doesn’t have the stats and individual honours of Michael Houser, the former OHL MVP and Canadian Hockey League goalie of the year.

But he has a Memorial Cup title and his gold medal with the U.S.

“He works his tail off,” London goaltending coach Dave Rook said. “His practice habits and attention to detail is unbelievable. It’s a reason why he has so much success during the game because that carries over.”

He was the first American junior goalie to beat the Russians in nine years . And he did it twice. He beat the Russians and Canadians in because that carries over shootouts, a contest he hasn’t enjoyed much success with here.

“Kids develop at different ages,” Rook said. “Sometimes, the intangibles he brings to the table aren’t known until he gets put in that situation. Maybe he had never been put in that situation before (to prove his major junior worth).

“When you scout, you want guys who are technically sound, but ideally, you want goalies who win. From what I understand, he’s won at every level.”
