Hot take: Cossa goes before Wallstedt and in the top 10.

It's difficult to really compare these two as they compete at different levels. One plays in one of the world's best senior pro-hockey league, outside the NHL. One plays junior hockey. JW has proven that he can handle the step from junior level to senior at a young age. SC hasn't challenged that step yet.
Maybe it says who is the best player today. But who is the best prospect ?? Goalies are generally difficult to project...

I have not seen Cossa play, however, I think that his sample size is far too small for the kind of evaluations that seem to be taking place in this thread. Everyone knows this year's shortened WHL season is not a very good indicator of projectable stats going forward. For example, Dylan Guenther went wild this year and he was a popular pick to go number one, at least that is before the U18s, where he showed up as a very good player but probably the 5th or 6th best on his own team. Looking at his gaudy save percentage this year does not tell you much of anything other than the Oil Kings were dominant. Is he worth a 1st round pick or is he better than Wallstedt, those are reaches from what I'm seeing.

Confusing post. You haven't seen him play, but...you have?

Sample size/value wise:

- He's now had 2 dominant seasons in the WHL and was the best goalie prospect in his age group coming up. I always think it's funny when people talk about track records in relation to the draft. These guys are 17/18. Their track record is that they got their braces off 3 years ago, around the same time Mom stopped dropping them off at the rink.

- Let's not kid ourselves, this draft thins out quickly. Teams have made far worse gambles than spending a mid-late 20s pick on a guy who has just dominated the opposition for 2 straight years.

NB: I'm really not an advocate of picking goalies high, but that's an entirely different discussion.

Cossa is so friggin good and whoever ends up drafting him will be extremely happy.

I've never seen Wallstedt play but if Cossa is ranked behind him, he must be absolutely outstanding.

Wallstedt is the real deal. Has the tools to be a franchise changer.

But I agree about Cossa. He’s just straight up hard to score on.

Haven’t attempted a mid-first round prediction since I called Klefbom. Of course, that’s because we’ve drafted top ten 95% of the years since then but here we go for predict #2. Oilers call his name draft day.

I love the total package this kid has. Huge frame but is very athletic and seems to be very smooth and calm in the crease. I hope the Devils some how trade up the Islanders 1st rounder to be able to snag him. I like his game more so that Wallstedt.
You don’t like Blackwood? He’s only 24 and has looked pretty solid at the nhl level

and if it isnt those two, then i bet that someone like st.louis drafts him

Yeah I have a persistent feeling that the Blues will select Cossa at 16th. They saw a lot of him watching Neighbours the last two seasons and that may have made enough of an impression on their scouts to have one of them push hard for him.

Binnington still has 5 years left on his contract and the Blues have Hofer in the pipeline so odds are actually against them taking him with so many other positional holes but I just have a feeling that they will take him.

Blackwood will be 25 in December and Cossa will be 19 in November, they aren’t exactly contemporaries. Any enthusiasm is more about the unknown potential of the goalie prospects in the Devils system. I don’t see the Devils trading up to grab a goalie though, that’s more wishful thinking of someone particularly sweet on Cossa. (Who is crush-worthy tho.)

lmao Detroit takes Edvinsson over Eklund and then Cossa over Wallstedt.

What a disaster draft. Couldn't imagine being a Wings fan tonight.
