I'm 100% positive all teams pray their drafted prospects pan out..

I'd like to hear the debate in which any sports franchise said they're hoping their prospects bust..
I meant in the fact they have Very limited options beyond Cossa in their system and if he doesn’t pan out they’re going to have to look beyond their system for their goaltending, giving up assets to do so.

Husso isn’t going to be their long term solution. From how I see it, Reimer is out after this season and Cossa hopefully comes in as a backup for next, and then the season after the hope is Cossa plays well enough in his rookie season he can at minimum split time with Husso if they decide to resign him.

If this doesn’t pan out like that, their next best solution is a 20 year old Augustine at the time and even if he is really good, that’s still too early for a goalie.

so Yeah, Detroit is praying Cossa pans out.

Free agent market exist. Goalies takes time mostly. Its ok for Cossa to build his career with 3 years from now or even longer. Even with his words about himself, it doesnt change something in reality. Some teenagers can say something stupid.

Most teams don’t have two goalie prospects better than Cossa/Augustine so shouldn’t this apply to basically… everyone?

Husso is a middle of the pack starter and played better than that for most of last season until he got burnt out because we didn’t have another NHL level goalie to go with a brutal defense.

Even if neither pans out, goalies have low value and the Wings have picks/prospects out the wazoo. That’s even assuming there’s none in theUFA market becoming available

Most teams have a legitimate starting goalie. Detroit does not, that’s why they NEED Cossa to pan out.

Husso is a legit starter. if Cossa doesn't work out then there is Augustine. Yzerman also drafted this other goalie that took the same path. I think his name is Andre Vasilevskiy, I heard he is alright. Wings also probably have one of the deepest prospect pool in the league now so there is plenty of assets to deal if need be.

LA? Nope

Ottawa? Nope

Florida? Very debatable

Toronto? Nope

NJ? Very debatable

Pens? Nope

Buffalo? Nope

Minny? Nope

Husso is at the same level as all these teams current starters.

So I guess all these teams NEED their goalie prospect to pan out or theye ruined?

Husso isn‘t better than Filip Guatavsson, Devon Levi, Tristan Jarry or Bobrobsky right now let alone in 2 years where it’s expected Cossa will at minimum be Ready for a role in the NHL which is where my original statement originated from. Let’s not derail this thread.

Did you just compare Cossa to Vasilevskiy? You know, one of the best goalies in NHL history?

You’ve already derailed it.

Bobrovsky who before a couple playoff games was viewed as arguably the worst contract in the NHL? Who’s struggled to keep a 900sv% the last few years and lost his starting gig more than once? Who didn’t even start in the playoffs this past season?

You’ve already deemed Levi better with his whopping zero NHL games before this season a rough start to begin this season?

Jarry who Pens fans hate was signed?

Zero response to the other goalies listed?

The wings are in as good/a better position goalie wise than most teams.

The classic defense of someone who realizes you’re wrong.

Husso is a middle of the road starter and have two great goalie prospects. The idea that the Wings are absolutely ruined if Cossa doesn’t pan out is a just a purely bad take.

In my opinion Red Wings NEED Cossa to pan out, you seem okay with running with Husso for a while.

Not a comparison at all just pointing out who drafted Vasy and Cossa. Detroit does not NEED Cossa to pan out. Huge if he does but there's always other options

Before Vasy, Yzerman traded Cory Conacher and a 4th for Ben Bishop.

It would be fantastic for Cossa to pan out, but there are always options.

Just for clarity which of the following teams drafted their current #1 goalie
Toronto
Ottawa
Buffalo
Carolina
NJ
Edmonton
Colorado
Minnesota
Vegas

Obviously the DRW are hoping Cossa pans out. I suspect every team hopes its draftees pan out..would be ridiculous otherwise.

If he dosent.. exactly the same as most of the top teams in the league, options exist...

Outside observation, but Leafs drafted Woll, and he is looking pretty good.

After all, the list of goalies who have backstopped their teams to Cups in the last 10 years includes consistently elite talents such as:

Adin Hill
Darcy Kuemper
Jordan Binnington
Braden Holtby
Matt Murray (x2)

Goalies are voodoo. Husso has been good with us and Reimer has looked fine from my viewings so far too. Team defense matters far more than goaltending. Key is just to have one that doesn't suck.
