Pavel Buchnevich
"Pavel Buchnevich The Fake"
My scouting report from his USHL season. I thought he struggled as the season progressed. He started very well. I think he'll be good, as long as he's not rushed. Probably will need a bunch of years before he can even be considered for the NHL. 2 or 3 years at UMass, and quite possibly some AHL time after that.
Reminds me a little of Sebastian Cossa. Big goalie that moves very well for his size. Not scrambling all over the place either. He’s pretty refined and has tended to have high save percentages throughout his career, which I continue to believe is by far the most important thing in judging success of goalie prospects. He could get better at some technical refinement of where he’s positioned vs the post or how quick he reads plays or stick positioning, but I think this guy is right there in contention for first goalie off the board. Probably wouldn’t be a first rounder for me because I’m not 100% sold on him as a true star goalie prospect, but I think he’s a very likely second rounder, and how high in the second round will be the question.
