He ends his college career with nearly 1 out of every 4 starts being a shut out. If you follow Northeastern at all…you’ll know they are the opposite of defensive trap hockey style that makes it easy on their goalie. He faced a ton of rubber there.

My guess as to his immediate future is they’ll have him practice with the team for a bit and get him a game by the end of the month.

I think this refutes the "Rochester for 2 full years, then back up in 25/26" theories.

If he over-delivers to make the team immediately next season, great, just not expecting it. And many (myself included) have thought he'd get into NHL games after signing so this isn't that odd either.

Their goalies are trash. They might as well see if he can get them in the playoffs. If he doesn't appear to be ready they can send him to Rochester.
Yeah but the intention is clearly to give him a chance to fight for the NHL spot immediately, not in 2,5 years like some were guessing/suggesting/predicting after the signing.

P.S. Buffalo has 2,8% chance to make the PO so they need Jesus, not Levi.

You expect him to make the NHL debut and then get sent to the AHL for 2 years?
Ottawa did it with Daccord and the Habs did it with Lindgren. It's not unheard of, just doesn't happen a ton. But with more goalies coming out of the NCAA now than they were 20 years ago, we may see it become more common. Many teams already do it with forward or defensive prospects as an incentive to sign and burn their first ELC year.

As for 2 years in the AHL, that will completely depend on his performance. If he is playing well in the AHL then no way they slow cook him. If he struggles however, they very well could. For this season however it was all about getting him around the team and especially around Craig Anderson to help mentor him before we all assume he ultimately retires.

Maybe they can package him with some prospects and picks for Gibson at the draft. That will give him an opportunity to battle it out with Dostal for a starting gig.
.....yea that's not happening.

There is no chance of that. Buffalo was promoting Levi very heavily when they signed him. He had a press conference and everything. Makes no sense to trade him from a business perspective. From a hockey perspective, he’s one of the best college goalies to ever play and could be a legit #1 goalie in the NHL. He’s a bit on the small side but he’s shown no sign of it not translating yet.

What he does now has no bearing on what he does next year. Next year the thing he needs most…is to play. Get as many starts as he can. That’s much more likely to be in Rochester. He can start every game down there…which is much more important to his development than playing less at the NHL level.

The year after will depend on next year…but next year doesn’t depend on 2 or 3 games at the end of this one.

I don't see how one (or two) starts in the NHL this year refutes ANY theory that's out there. Goalies are part voodoo, part magic and part governed by the phase of the moon.

Whatever happens this year means nothing for next year. And it certainly doesn't mean anything for 2 years from now. or 3 years from now.
