Best bet is that he plays substantially all of next year in the AHL. Or, at least, he should. The year after that is way too hard to predict. The fact that he gets NHL games this year doesn't mean anything about how the next 2 years unfold.
It will depend on the GM. If Adams is still the GM next season he will presumably need to make the playoffs. To do that he either needs to acquire a #1 goaltender or give Levi the job.

He ends his college career with nearly 1 out of every 4 starts being a shut out. If you follow Northeastern at all…you’ll know they are the opposite of defensive trap hockey style that makes it easy on their goalie. He faced a ton of rubber there.

I am willing to bet you never watched a Northeastern game. They play fantastic defense and I believe led the nation in blocked shots. They absolutely rely on defense and had the defensive defenseman of Hockey East and best defensive forward in Hockey East. NU keeps the puck to the outside and rarely give up odd man or breakaways. Its a system that produces fantastic goalie stats - Cayden Primeau was there before him and won a Richter in same style. Levi was out for 8 Games at Olympics and his backup put up 2.05GAA and a .934 last season. NU defenseman don't get enough credit - he had NHL caliber D in front of him with Jordan Harris and Struble. There was a stretch of 6+ games this year when his dman where banged up and Levi had a 4+ GAA and a .840 over that stretch...Defense matters.

Same thing I posted in the other Levi thread where you made this claim:

The Huskies are not good at establishing possession and clearing the puck under control out of their zone. They do collapse and try to take shooting lanes away - the block stats are indicative of that - but they yield a lot of shots, spend time chasing, and regularly are disorganized in their own zone. They remind me a bit of the late '90's Sabres where they played similarly, collapsing to protect the house but not being very good at getting possession and instead leaning hard on Hasek. They don't take the neutral zone away in the way Quinnipiac does and they yield way more shots than they should.

I'd add that plenty of those shots are from in prime scoring areas. Levi isn't some systems goalie and while Keefe was an assistant under Madigan when Primeau was there, stylistically, they aren't nearly as crisp as they were under the previous HC.

I fully expect Adams to be GM next year. I also expect him to try to acquire a veteran G over the summer, if any are available on reasonable terms. However, even if they roll with Comrie and UPL next year, I would still expect them to make the playoffs -- if they upgrade at least 1 d-man and middle-six forward. That's based mostly on internal player improvements just by age and experience.

Lol.

I’ve watched a ton of their games the last two years. If you think they’re a team that supports their goalie to any great level…you don’t know what you’re looking at

Buffalo having no goalie options is going to make it a difficult decision for Adams next season. Do I spend a 1st and/or top prospect on a starter, or do I lean on a kid who looks like he might be able to take the reigns.. but also could have his development affected if it’s too much, too soon for him.

It’s going to be tempting to be able to spend those assets elsewhere and just call Levi the goalie next season, and pair him with Comrie.

I feel like that’s the path we’re going to take, right wrong or indifferent. The only reason not to go that route is if his confidence will take a hit by doing so, but bringing Johnson in and making another move or two to make the defense that much better will go a very long way towards building his confidence.

Levi is not ready for the NHL, he'll need at least a year or 2 in the AHL. That game was for him to burn is first ELC year, let's not kid ourselves.

Who was the last 21 y old goalie that went succesfully directly from the NCAA to the NHL without spending time in the AHL?

I don't remember.

They'll get, as they should, get a stop gap for a year or two and let the kid develop.

Those aren’t stop gaps. They’re reasons they’ll extend the playoff drought another year this year…and next if that’s the plan. They can not go into the season with their young core and UPL/Comrie as their plan. I don’t care how cheap ownership is. It can not be done.
