when did nhlers get so soft.

They’ve always been a little soft about weird things - like, they’ll stand in front of a nuclear bomb if it means getting out of round 1, but they don’t like to play in markets where people care about what they do.

Life is full of contradictions.

Oh, so sorry that I have a different perspective than you do. I will try to be more aligned with your singular point of view going forward. Moronic take and give your head a shake? You defined what you are in those two statements.

Yeah I guess in a single post you captured my entire essence.

Please enlighten me on what the pros are for the players to have the ASG in cold weather climate cities. Why should they want them there, if they have a say in it? Bring some logic to you argument instead of prattling on about 'snowflakes' and 'soft'

I get it.

There's a reason why the Super Bowl is in states like Florida, California or Arizona and the Pro Bowl was in Hawaii every year.

I live in New York where it is currently 7 degrees out. As much as I would love to see the All-Star game in person, I wouldn't want players to have to come here for a superfluous game, this time of the year.

Oh shit! 7 degrees?! That's insane!

(It's -46 here in Quebec.)

meh, All-Star game is pure garbage and most don't even wanna be there in the first place

they're there to "promote the game " (LOL) and fake smiles for a weekend anyways

"Hey, the rest of the office is going on vacation but we'd like you to travel to this frigid location and continue working. No, it's not important work and it's more like volunteering but we want the publicity. You get paid enough that this shouldn't be a problem anyways. Oh, and if you don't go you'll be forced to miss a day of paid work."

"Can it at least be in a warm city where I can bring my family along and they can have some fun?"

WOW, THE ENTITLEMENT!

Pretty obviously the issue is that no-one cares about the ASG and players just want a nice mid-season vacation for them and their families.

I think the obvious answer is to just drop it. It's a relic from a time when seeing out of town stars was a rare and meaningful event for people. It's irrelevant now. And that is the case in literally all the sports, so it's not an NHL problem. It's just an outdated concept. The only reason it sticks around like a zombie is that it's a revenue-generating product the league controls directly without outside interference.

so you can only have fun in warm weather cities?

Can anyone blame them?

Who the hell likes cold cities anyways lol.... Especially this time of year

I'm pretty sure there's definitely more money to be made in Toronto with the ASG than in just about every other city.

According to Friedman there has been an overwhelming response from NHL players that they dislike participating in the All-Star game weekend festivities and commitment. NHL teams have expressed that it is becoming increasingly harder and harder to get their players to want to go to the ASG.

The NHL met with All-Stars yesterday to try and come up with a solution on how to entice players to the event.

Friedman says that the overwhelming response is that players only want the ASG to be in hot weather/family ideal locations.

Friedman says that the NHL really took this to heart and are thinking of limiting the ASG to a circuit of a few cities, (Ala Superbowl)

Friedman mentions that the cities would be places such as , Florida, Tampa, Dallas, Arizona, Caliornia teams, Westocast.

Color me shocked.

So kind of like almost all UFAs, unless you back up the cash truck.

Hmmm… wonder why a Canadian team hasn’t won a Cup in 30 years and counting… and every GM of a Canadian franchise is an idiot.

Let’s not get started on the tax and travel advantages… and spousal influences.

I'm not shocked. I mean it's the NHL's fault for turning the All Star Game into a freak show where nothing matters. I miss the day of the Conference Wales vs Conference Clarence Campbell with all the top stars of the time actually trying to win at 5 on 5. Wayne vs Mario.

The holiday for the players-family and choosing Hawaii-Floride-Brasil for the location a la NFL make sense for that reason (a sport where the game cannot be a real one in anyway for obvious reason) and does not translate has well to hockey.

The ASG should always be in markets without NHL teams, lol

Like, that's an actual interesting event for hockey fans in places like Houston, New Orleans, Orlando, San Antonio, San Diego, Austin, Mexico City, etc.

Before anyone starts whining about interest levels, there are enough fans just from a population perspective in these major cities to sell one star studded game.

And it might actually grow the sport, which is why Gary BettMGMan would never think of it and will never let it happen.
