Put it during the pre-season as a marketing event for the leagues stars or breakout stars and then have a week off during this week in February for the players and their families.

I agree. Host the draft held in late-June in Northern NHL cities that have fans that will fill the building and put the early-February ASG in warmer Southern cities.
Draft makes money for the nf. 3 day event and you’ve seen 10’s of thousands of fans go to that city. What does the nhl draft make? Nothing basically which is why a lot of teams don’t want to host it.

According to Friedman there has been an overwhelming response from NHL players that they dislike participating in the All-Star game weekend festivities and commitment. NHL teams have expressed that it is becoming increasingly harder and harder to get their players to want to go to the ASG.

The NHL met with All-Stars yesterday to try and come up with a solution on how to entice players to the event.

Friedman says that the overwhelming response is that players only want the ASG to be in hot weather/family ideal locations.

Friedman says that the NHL really took this to heart and are thinking of limiting the ASG to a circuit of a few cities, (Ala Superbowl)

Friedman mentions that the cities would be places such as , Florida, Tampa, Dallas, Arizona, Caliornia teams, Westocast.
Ha ha, they learned a game that was possible because water freezes into ice when cold temperatures are applied. Now that theyve “made it” and the game they love is making them a multimillionaire at 25 and set for life forever, they say f*** those cold temps. This NHL generation are soft as baby shit, PC, earth muffins who want it all.

Allstars should play against the cup champs in their home rink.
Full circle. The origination of the concept back in 1947.

Yeah usually I empathize with the situations that hockey players endure, but this is whiny millionaire things.

Imagine your city being shunned from getting an All star game because your ICE HOCKEY team is in too cold of a city.

I wonder how much a franchise wants an all star game to improve ticket sales and get more sponsors involved “photos with Alex Ovechkin! Get Conor McDavid to autograph your hockey stick!”.

If players don’t want to go to a cold weather city like Winnipeg or Buffalo in mid February, does that mean the NHL sponsors don’t want to either?

I really can’t blame the players. I personally don’t watch the all star game or any weekend activities; I don’t remember if I ever did…and if I did it was in the 1970s.

Maybe it has more to do with the fact that the ASG sucks and less to do with cold weather cities?

Start off by renaming it the participation game, but makes sense for some of the older guys who have young children.

Define paid. I'm pretty sure they aren't collecting their regular paychecks. I'm not going anywhere on my time just for a per diem.
Well technically they are because if they don't go for injury related reasons they lose a game cheque. McDavid getting suspended for a game for missing the All-Star game would cost him 12K

I've always been told that the All Star Game (And now the Winter Classic) were mainly for the fans in attendance, specifically the kids. Now players are complaining that it's too cold (Ironic considering they play on Ice). They stop going to cold weather cities, they will deny children on those cities a chance to be involved in the game, and they will lose even more viewers.

Does anyone know what the CBA says about NHLPA members requirement to participate in the All Star game if selected? Barring injury, of course.
I'm curious if players even can blow it off without penalty, and if not, then why would there be a need to cater to them. It's part of their job/contract.

Move the ASG in the off-season. Maybe after the draft. And probably get more viewers since its the only hockey to watch in the summer. Players may prefer that.

Not very surprising honestly.

If the players have to participate in a meaningless all star weekend then they want to do it with their family and in warm weather. It is what it is.

They can wipe their tears away with 100$ dollar bills. I feel no sympathy for these multimillionaires.

The correct answer for not wanting to go to the All Star game would be, It's a f#$%ing joke!!!.

Imagine making a regular fans yearly salary every game and still bitching and moaning about the weather outside.

Oh, so sorry that I have a different perspective than you do. I will try to be more aligned with your singular point of view going forward. Moronic take and give your head a shake? You defined what you are in those two statements.

I think they should play it the Wednesday after the MLB All Star game. It will be the only sport in town since that is usually the deadest night of the sports year. *

*There is a slight bit of sarcasm to this post.
