How is it salty? I am sure he knew he had options outside of the organization. That doesn't change the fact that he decided he wanted to come back and the Leafs said no. I don't think he was especially bad at his job here but I am also not heart broken to lose him either. He has also ended up at an organization with a not particularly bright future.
He’s going from the general manager to a president, that alone is worth the move.

What has he done to earn president of hockey ops?

Ridiculous.

So will he be making the decisions or whoever the GM is. Assuming he isn't the gm.

Let's not forget that Keith Jones was just named as Flyers' president of hockey ops. What has he done? Actually quite a bit, but not much related to organizational mgmt (ie what the job responsibilities actually are). And no one seemed to care either way about that hire.

Anyway, Dubas isn't the GM. So therefore imo isn't a title worth getting upset about in either direction, imo Pens fans should just be thankful he's not the one who will be managing the cap or constructing this team after the superstars retire

Lmao

Dubas is an incredibly intelligent individual, I would absolutely die to have him as our president of Hockey operations.

Instead, we have old ass Rutherford.
what makes him so good?
- overpaid a core and still couldn't get max term for them
- can't build a competent defense
- goaltending still a question mark in Toronto

Smart guy.

He took a team who lost in the first round 3 consecutive years before he was GM and traded 3 1st round picks only to lose in the first round 7 consecutive years. He then doubled down and traded another 2 1st round picks in his final year for a second round exit.

He's never proven any success at the NHL level - and now never has to because he's not the GM.

There's very few people who can obtain a high level position with zero results, Dubas seems to be one of them.
I would say the core 4 have done the same impressive thing in Toronto. They hold onto their jobs there when they have done absolutely nothing in 7 years.

...And people thought it was early for Jeff Gorton to be named POHO.

so much for Toronto or nothing lol
Yeah, it became "another team or nothing" as soon as Toronto removed themselves as an option.

Dubas said "toronto or nowhere" while still negotiating a contract, which he didn't have to do. He could have used the threat, even implicitly, that he had other options in order to get a better deal. But he came out publicly and confirmed that he wanted to stay in Toronto and then they still kicked him to the curb for not wanting it enough (lol).

People can disagree, but I see this pretty clearly as Toronto's front office being dumb and making rash decisions based on power structures, rather than talent. Dubas failed to get the team over the top, but he had a lot of success and is clearly a smart, forward thinking, well-liked, well-respected person in the industry. Most people agreed with his decisions at the time, even if they didn't lead to a cup.

I think it's a great hire for Pittsburgh and I don't blame Dubas at all for being open to other options after Toronto let him go. If the Sabres needed a GM, I'd take Dubas over Treliving all day and it's not even really close.

As a Pens fan if the options are Ron Hextall, Brad Treliving, or Kyle Dubas, Dubas is by far the best options. The playoffs can be a crapshoot but 221-109-42 record as a GM speaks for itself. Bitter Leafs fans are funny though

Right but he was told no from Toronto. If Shanny doesn't change his mind this doesn't happen.
I don’t think anybody is gullible here.
There’s no way he goes back with another “ financial package” if he did not know, he already had that President job whispered to him.

Again, it’s all theory, and suspect, but it makes sense

Pitsburgh, what is you doing baby? Dumb move.

smart by dubas IMO if he was hired as a GM he would be fired within 2 years. as president he gets more time to screw the pens I suppose

absolutely DUMB by Fenway group. But they did can Burke within 2 years of hiring him; Fenway is cutthroat they care about results they won't put up with his charlatan ways the way MLSE board did.

It's still a bit slimy on his part. Claim 'Toronto or no where' to appeal to the fans, players, and ownership, before asking for more money and doing the exact opposite of what he said days prior.

Wouldn't he just....not come back to Toronto then? I think you are probably reading to much into this lol he decided he wanted to come back to Toronto for a lot more money, Toronto said nope and he quickly shifted gears elsewhere.
