Most President's have won, either as players or GM's.

Winning as a player matters also - because it shows you know what it takes to win, in the locker room culture, etc.
Maybe so. I've never been pro or anti Dubas but what exactly has Shanahan done all these years?

That guy should have been booted out along with Dubas and Keefe.

Agreed 100%
I think he’s going to do a fantastic job in Pittsburgh

He deserves credit if he does. I think he took this job to avoid criticism though because he's not the GM.

Anyone can do what he did with a 21 year old Matthews/Marner/Nylander entering the prime - however turning Pittsburgh around without a rebuild is much harder.

Why should Shanahan be booted when Dubas can get a promotion with the same results?

He's gonna sign Andersen and the Pens will beat the Leafs in the 1st round of the POs 4-0 with Freddie getting 4 shutouts then Matthews will sign next off season!
If you want a more realistic take, Malkin and Letang will each miss like 35+ games and be mostly ineffective even when healthy. Crosby will maybe miss time as well and continue to slide down the hierarchy of NHL forwards in the present day. Pens will miss the postseason once again. And Matthews will have already signed his 8 year/Eleventy Gazillion dollars extension in Toronto by then. Dubas and whatever GM will be fired in 3 years or so when somebody needs to take the fall for the team's obvious and natural decline.

So what's his plan.

Does he get the rest of Pittsburgh on board with the fact their Cup window is completely closed and start to rebuild, or does he placate Sid and Geno and pretend to go for it?

Also, cue Jason Spezza coming out of retirement.

Honestly, if I had to bet on which team would have a better run in the next 3 years It'd easily be the Pens. They have more cap room and their core has actually won something.

Also, it seems like Shanny wants to keep the core 4 and the coach so nothing's changing in TOR.

Actually, you know what, I’m gonna double down here.

The absolute saltiness of so many Toronto Maple Leaf fans because of extremely spinned one sided story, is hilarious.

Does Shanahan have every right to be pissed off?
Sure, of course, he got blindsided for sure.
But people treating Dubas like he’s some piece of shit, because clearly he found a bigger opportunity elsewhere, is pretty funny.

I’m not saying it’s OK, but tempering is done by literally every single organization, it’s obvious that kyle knew he had this opportunity if he left toronto, and got it.

He played it well.
How is it salty? I am sure he knew he had options outside of the organization. That doesn't change the fact that he decided he wanted to come back and the Leafs said no. I don't think he was especially bad at his job here but I am also not heart broken to lose him either. He has also ended up at an organization with a not particularly bright future.

Dubas is still riding on an ego trip that he's the greatest hockey executive to walk the earth, so he likely thinks now that he has "winners" amongst his core he'll work his Dubas magic and build a Cup winner next season.

They have Crosby, Malkin and Letang all still there, they aren't gonna rebuild.

Very surprised he chose to go there given that is a team heading for a rebuild or maybe that was why he was intrigued by it.

Either way, congrats Pens fans y'all are in good hands.
FSG still wants to compete for a year or 2 and rightfully so, after that yes rebuild. Should be a solid move grabbing him as I believe he is one of the better younger executives in the game. Will be interesting what he does in the immediate future.

Great on Dubas.

However the saltiness is based on Dubas failing as GM of the Leafs - not him working for Pittsburgh. Any GM in the league could have the same results Dubas had with the Leafs. He took a first round exit team and... lost in the first round until he traded 2 1st round picks for a second round loss.
