Buff wanted out, trouba wanted out, laine wanted out, Maurice wanted out, now sheif and helle with maybe more. I think the problem or atleast one of the problems is who,the hell wants to live in Winnipeg. It’s cold as hell. It’s the worse place to live out of all the nhl cities. You look around and envy the rest of the league living in Vegas, Florida, dallas, LA etc and your like, Im stuck here in Winnipeg. Screw that.

Far be it for me to defend Winnipeg as a city, including all Canadian cities and many of the US ones, but that is not why those people wanted out.

im sure there are situations where weather was a factor. however, some of the players and coach you cited ended up re-signing here, after being here for a number of years. so they were well aware of how cold it was prior to inking a deal.

now scheifele was an RFA, so could be argued his options were limited... however he did not have to sign for 8 seasons, and there are mechanisms where he could find the quickest route to UFA to bolt. same w/ Helle. however at the end of the day, they both ended up re-signing for long-term deals here.

It's also the case that no one playing for the Jets is out of necessity shovelling his own driveway, hauling the kids to school, doing the Superstore shop, etc etc. They're in town when they're practicing or playing at home, then they're on the road in places that aren't so cold, then they go home to wherever they live in the offseason.

Enough high-end players have signed here and enjoyed it to suggest that the cold isn't a determinative factor in choosing to play or not play in WPG.

Again, my guess is that this is what players most want in a prospective club:

- A top-end org that looks after its players and families
- Opportunity in terms of teammates and ToI
- Playing for a consistent contender

- Nice climate
- Great nightlife

Buff is an avid outdoorsman and Winter fishing aficionado. Cold weather didn't chase Big Buff away.

Well they aren’t going to trade half the team so a few people need to relax in here. If guys like Svechnikov and Ves want out, who gives a crap really. Svech was brought in on a PTO ffs and Ves hasn’t done a single thing to prove he’s worthy of an NHL roster spot. Dillon, replaceable, Schmidt, replaceable. There might be a couple of big moves like Scheifele, but the rest are going to be the natural turnover you see in a lot of rosters, especially unsuccessful ones.

One thing this has proved, is Maurice was so completely full of shit when he repeatedly said how tight the room was. How many times did he say “the room is tight, it’s a tight group in there”.
Man that guy was a snake oil salesman of the highest order.
People often fall for the smooth talking salesman. Maurice was as smooth as they come.
I just can’t believe it took so many years for the right people to notice.

They have to think about that when they choose a player. An Adam Lowry or Josh Morrissey, or all the Minnesotans, are more likely to feel at home in Winnipeg. So when they're not picking this or that player that everyone wants at the draft that could well be one big reason why. It's a risk taking a Trouba or Evander Kane who are more likely to pine for the bright lights.

I am not surprised at all.

Our head coach quit on the team!!!

As someone who has owned several businesses, this is a huge red flag for me.

Watching the Jets play this season there is a clear lack of accountability.

PLD mentioned that the team has no identity earlier this season.

I said in a thread last month that Chipman strikes me as a person who does not want to create waves or offend anyone and he wants to be everyone's friend.

You can't have this mindset when running a business.

The rot on this team must be cleared out and if Chipman can't do it, then David Thomson can message me and I'll take care of it.
Our head coach is mostly to blame for this mess! He allowed Wheeler to rule the roost and allowed Scheifele do as he pleased. Never any repercussions for those two.

yup, inexplicably the salary cap continues to go up in a league where no rink is ever full anymore because ticket prices are outrageous. Mark S. makes $10 million canadian for 8 months of "work" and is STILL unhappy. Another lockout can't come soon enough.
Agree. What kid in his 20’s wouldn’t play hockey for a mere $1M a year? Few to none.

Alternative is get a job and grind for 30 years like the rest of us.

But if you give them $10M of course they’ll take it. These ridiculous salaries and now ticket costs to support it are out of control. Yes to a lockout.

Heinola is the one young player I'm concerned about on this front. Having said that a new coach that quickly integrates him and helps him grow would quickly remedy things on that front.

Samberg and Perfetti have already staked claim to key roles and as such I see them not at all being unhappy with their lot. Cole seems to know he has to continue to work to prove himself and get better.
I suspect a lot of young first round picks are unhappy with their roles (AHL or press box) and ask to be traded. They don't have any leverage though as they haven't proven enough to get a return worth moving them. They have to try to break onto the team or wait until they waiver eligible.

yup. i am tired of hearing chevy wins every trade, and has the best draft... if that's the case why do we have 1 good year/11?
Bad bounces, the refs, too many back to backs, Covid, time zones, lunar eclipse, the media, injuries…

I can see Ehlers wanting out. He put in his time and wasn’t really rewarded for it. Most of his tenure significantly less minutes no 1 pp and probably, rightfully thinks he’d be treated like a star elsewhere.
If this mess of an organization manages to run Ehlers out of town, I'm going to be done watching the Jets for a very long time.

And I agree, he's never gotten the usage he deserves. IMO that'll be a litmus test for the new coaching staff - if they keep playing Wheeler more than Ehlers, I'll be very doubtful anything else is going to meaningfully change.

Team and roster has been stagnant for a while.

Scheifele I think was really disappointed that the Jets didn't support him and appeal his suspension. I don't blame him, and he's given his all to this team. If he wants a move, then I think now is a good time for both him and the franchise.

Scheifele is a self indulged clown. He’s been given the royal treatment her and he shit on his plate.

I had speculated the same but many on the boards informed me that Scheifele could have appealed on his own and needed no support of the Jets. It was an NHLPA and player decision and didn't have anything to do with what the Jets wanted. Just passing along the info given to me around here.

I think Laine was still A problem. There can be a scenario where both sides aren't great.

I compare what's been said similarly to Laine basically shitting on Little. I think the Scheifele/Stastny stuff is a little more provocative because of the timing.
Both situations make (made) going forward with the player awkward as hell.

The kane/bogosian trade was good, but I don't think it was amazing as we hoped it would be shortly after it was made.

All the pieces were gone last year and some of the pieces we got had minimal impact or less impact then we hoped due to various factors and had to be included in trades to get rid of contracts/even-up trades...Roslovic, Lemieux (he was disruptive so good riddance), Armia.

Myers had his moments of course, like that one round in the 2018 playoffs but he was too inconsistent to be more than a #5 defenseman on the good team. Missed nearly a full season too. Of course that is better than Bogo who missed tonnes of time every season and was prone to many a braindead play.

I was thinking back to our deadline deals of yesteryear too....Ladd got us a whole lot of blah....NHL washout Marko Dano and a draft pick that got us half of Logan Stanley (had to use another draft pick to trade up for him:ha:).

Saying Chevy makes the best trades and is elite at drafting is pretty exaggerated based on the entirety of the results so far. There is room for the middle ground on his tenure here.

I've repeatedly called Chevy a B+ GM (the Kane trade, Trouba trade, and Laine trade all exceeded expectation) and kind of by the nature of the grade, that implies he's better than average. Would you throw away Chevy out of pique to replace him with an average GM? 11 years, ZERO stupid trades. If there was a Selke trophy for GMs, he'd own it like his name was Guy Carbonneau.

Given it all to this team? Upset about not appealing the suspension?

I'm not sure man. We must have been watching a different hockey team the past few years. Scheifele has been going through the motions for years now and has been able to get away with it from a coach who let the inmates run the asylum for far too long.

Cheat for offense, refuse to play defense in his own end, and most importantly, never get dogged for it by your coach. Sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me and one that I'm sure most players who don't give a shit in the league about winning would take in a heartbeat.

Scheifele has nobody to blame but himself. The problem is that these past years, and especially now in the past few days, exemplifies to me that he has little to no self awareness of the situation.

He is a leader on this team. Instead of crying about "direction" of this team and pouting -- he should look in the mirror and realize he has the talent and ability to be a main piece to help right the ship.

It's always everybody's fault around 55 and never his.

It sucks because if Winnipeg were a tax free haven like Florida or Tampa Bay, the team would survive a down season or even a bit of locker room turmoil.

Hockey players are over entitled babies.

Find the problem and fix the problem. It's defeatist to ask to be traded.
