Buff quits, Maurice quits, this is not good.Problems allowed to fester too long by either Chevy or Chipman or both but we are in trouble right now and its very sad.

We need a hard ass coach that won't put up with defensive play like Scheifele's , its absolutely the time for this to happen.

This is interesting and concerning at the same time. However, I'm not sure how accurate Friedman's report is.

Hire a new staff, talk to the players and ask them if they are up for a new adventure. if they still want out, trade them.

Players I could see that asked for a trade that will be explored:
Dillon
Schmidt
Players I could see that asked for a trade or made it known they would be open to moving that may be explored or forced:
Scheif
PLD (just based on the previous Friedman report - start of a fire that I don't like)
Players I could see that asked for a trade that won't be explored:
Helly
Heinola

One thing this has proved, is Maurice was so completely full of shit when he repeatedly said how tight the room was. How many times did he say “the room is tight, it’s a tight group in there”.
Man that guy was a snake oil salesman of the highest order.

Yep. His snake oil was so good that he managed to quit on the team AND GET PAID OUT FOR IT!!! He snake oiled all the way to the bank.

I guess this could be the reason Maurice walked away ... the players had enough of him.
Different rules for different players would cause a mutiny.

You guys nailed it.

Maurice knows what players and fans want to hear.

Is it any wonder that Scheifele has a high opinion of himself after Maurice said the Jets would build a statue for him?

Maurice always made a point of how much he and his family love Winnipeg which fans lap up.

He reminds me of Billy Flynn in Chicago.

Give 'em the old Razzle Dazzle
Razzle dazzle 'em
Show 'em the first rate sorceror you are
Long as you keep 'em way off balance
How can they spot you've got no talents

Scheifele used to say all those things repeatedly. I will never trust a word any of these guys say ever again, i'm too hurt.

Yeah and for a time Mark backed those words up. He hasn't for a while now but each player is their own individual and just because Mark changed his toon doesn't mean Cole or anyone else will.

Well they aren’t going to trade half the team so a few people need to relax in here. If guys like Svechnikov and Ves want out, who gives a crap really. Svech was brought in on a PTO ffs and Ves hasn’t done a single thing to prove he’s worthy of an NHL roster spot. Dillon, replaceable, Schmidt, replaceable. There might be a couple of big moves like Scheifele, but the rest are going to be the natural turnover you see in a lot of rosters, especially unsuccessful ones.

Totally agree and Chevy or Chipman or both were quite happy with him, Maurice quit Chevy or Chipman or both didn't even fire the guy. Chevy and or Chipman are just as much at fault here as Maurice if not more.

There is still a lot of time to cut out the rot and make players buy in again before the puck drops. Attitude and buy-in are crucial, and can be the main determinant themselves. Step one is hiring an accountable coaching staff.

Scheifele - be gone
Wheeler - demotion or buy-out
Vesalainen - he’s barely AHL material
PLD - should be coaxed to stay and given a large role
Stastny - not convinced he wants out
Hellebuyck - give him a defence this year
Heinola - give him 2nd pairing minutes
Schmidt - seems like a good guy, but a massive liability this year. I’m fine if he wants to leave.
Dillon - likewise.
Svech - not sure he gets many takers

I would be okay doubling back to Copp, and maybe even Laine in a trade for Scheif.

Morrissey - Pionk
Heinola - De Melo
Samberg - Chisholm/Gawanke/Kovacevic
Stanley

We could still use a #1 on the right but they’re hard to come by.

If we're trading Scheif and Helle we may as well blow it up because we are not going to be contending for a few years minimum.

Identify who is going to be here long-term, move the rest and rebuild around the long-term guys.

Ehlers, Connor, Perfetti, PLD (hopefully), Samberg, Morrissey, Heinola.

If you get a good return on Helle and Scheif then add those assets in, a high 1st round pick in 2023 draft (which is stacked), and you could turn it around fairly quickly.

The nice thing, is that unlike with Trouba where he wanted to be traded to 1 specific place, we should be able to take the best package and there will be teams lining up for Scheif and Helle if they both want out.

Oilers vs Devils for Helle but if we moved him to the Devils for 5OA (Jiricek) + Mercer and then brought in a Campbell or Husso as a free agent that could work out for us.

55 would make sense in a lot of places given his caphit vs what he brings. Islanders, Rangers, Red Wings, Hurricanes, Avs, Bruins, Flyers, Oilers, Preds, Wild. Probably at least 1/3rd of the league would make sense for him and that should drive up the price

IMO it would be possible to accommodate a lot of the speculative trades and still be a playoff team:

- 55 for Barzal
- Helle for 5OA + Mercer
- Schmidt for a 3rd round pick to Detroit
- Stanley to LA for Grans

KFC PLD Perfetti
Ehlers Barzal Mercer
Barron Lowry Wheeler
Harkins Gus Appleton
Toninato

JMO DeMelo
Samberg Pionk
Dillon Kovacevic
Glue guy

Husso
Comrie

Heinola spends another year as the first callup or move Dillon too to open a spot for him.

I feel like that is still a very competitive team if we can get strong returns.

I feel like Schiefele has been butt hurt since PLD arrived as he sees him as a threat to his #1 roll(you know, a center that actually gives a shit and plays a 200 foot game). His give-a-shit level plummeted soon after. PLD probably feels this too in the locker room. I really do hope that we move Scheifele for a kings ransom and build around PLD. I'd also like to see Wheeler traded(send a couple picks with him to sweeten) but i doubt it will happen. Its time that this current leadership group is dismantled. Let PLD, Connor, Ehlers, Morrissey take over.

Which could also be horseshit. We had no idea that Kane and Trouba were asking for trades numerous times while here.

Marek name dropped Helle again too in the segment. I think he must be another that has made his displeasure well known, but that TNSE would be unwilling to move him unless another team offered the world.
Honestly though, if this is a rebuild why wouldn’t we deal Hellebucyk now when he’s in his prime and decent value? He’s not going to be in his prime when the new core is ready to contend. A Helle trade could be a great kickstart to a rebuild.

Heinola hasn't proven himself, guy looked mostly overwhelmed, Samberg is the real deal though!

I would assume that a new coaching staff will help with the players that want to be traded due to usage and relationship with the previous staff. Since they can get a new opportunity with a new coach without going to a different team.
Although the LD surplus still need to be taken care of, so we don't waste the value of Stanley, Heinola and Samberg. I would think that it would be silly to enter next season with those 3 as 3rd to 5th on the depth chart.

Other players might also need to be traded depending on how we plan to go forward, but those are more a puzzle where we need replacement pieces coming back
