Gotta start with 1!

I think they can find some good stuff from the Carolina third period. They got a quick PP goal yesterday too which resembled some of their old way success. I'm not really buying Washington quite yet.

Surely the Oil can get some puck luck too.

I cant read anything into that 3rd period, the Canes put it on cruise control and slept through the 3rd.

That said, finally finally FINALLY the Oilers are going with the top 2 lines that gave them success last season outside of Brown who doesn't look like he is an NHL player anymore to be honest. Foegele on the RW of the 2nd line would be the way to go and put Brown beside McLeod and Ryan. The 3rd and 4th lines are a black hole right now anyway and it appears KK is going to run the top 2 lines hard with the 11-7.

Washington have had success in the last 2 weeks IIRC, the Oilers might be too mentally fatigued if a bounce doesn't go their way early or our goaltender is incapable of making a save or two.

Not exactly breaking news here. Woodcroft already told everybody Schwartz picks the starting goalies and he said it in a way to imply there was absolutely nothing controversial about it. This is how it’s done here.

Looks like we’re heading towards another 11-7 so Broberg can get his 4 minutes of ice time to show us why he is a failed draft pick.

First line from last year finally reunited.
Second line from last year finally reunited minus Yamo. In his place we have The Invisible Man.

Third line is garbage as long as Teflon McLoed is allowed to be on it and not eating popcorn in the press box. Most useless player on the Oilers right now.

Fourth line will be Janmark and Gagner with an overplayed 29 and 97 rotating in at C is my guess.

Fire all the D into the sun. Need a complete retool there. Even Ekholm has been drinking the Oilers water.

Skinner starts so an auto loss unless we score 14.

Of course I jest. I am going to remain positive.

We will only need 8.

The trick is to pull Skinner at 2 goals against. Thats more of a sweetspot.

Exactly, one of those games where you suddenly remember we are playing today, check the score, and realize you’ve completely missed the game. And somehow we actually win. Double U, Tee, Eff.

And then you say “cool” and then go about your business, knowing that you escaped watching getting beat again, but the fact that you won, which is a completely different experience, say to yourself “I wish I saw that for a change”.

So… yeah, a non expected win from our sophomore slumping goalie against a meh team. Nice!!

Yep. Honestly, I can't think of a single time this team has tried to break in a prospect in a smooth manner or put a rookie in a position to excel since Woody took over.

Skinner swam, but only because he was chucked into the deep end because of Campbell poor play.

Bouchard started to show well when he was the last PP defenceman on the team; But remember, before the TDL last year he was struggling badly. (Though I will accept the year before when he played with Keith as a proper example, but that was a level of play they still struggled to carry forward.)

Kostin is the only young guy I can think of that took the opportunity of being a 4th liner and actually ran with it. And even with him, his main breakout came when he got a streak of games playing with RNH and Janmark; his play when he was with Ryan and Shore was good, but hardly worth-2mil-good.

Imo the big issue with Woody (too early to say with Knoblauch) was the inability to demote someone. We've seen Yams, Pulju, Foegele, McLeod all struggle for an extended period of time (say, going 25 games without a goal), but never end up on the 4th line with a rookie allowed to try and steal their role.

Bench all game for a single mistake while team vets do worse or guys like Desharnais get put literally right back out to make another the next shift.

Like bit what we are doing isn’t working this year. Would it kill them to try something different?

Why some players fall out of favor with Oiler management while others (who have proven nothing) are given multiple chances has always been a source of wonder to me.
