I like that the Eagles had (still have?) jail cells built in their stadium.
Back in the day, if you were a fan of the Giants or Cowboys and you went to a game in Philadelphia wearing your team's apparel you were honestly 100% for real risking your personal safety. I don't know how it is nowadays because a lot of fans have likely been priced out.

Philadelphia has some expensive and very nice areas, but the bad parts of Philly are REALLY, and I mean REALLY, bad.

If you want to move on from Campbell, fine, but then who?
There are virtually no UFAs worth considering, so then it's a trade. What goalie is possibly going to be available that is championship-caliber. Then what is the price & cap hit.

The Leafs could get lucky and find a diamond in the rough somehow, but I doubt the plan is to go into next season with an unproven puck stopper leading a 115 point team.

The underlying problem is the Leafs have a cap crunch. If they can't pay Campbell how are they going to pay a better goalie? I would love to have to a top-notch genuine starter but that guy is going to either cost more than the Leafs can pay due to the cap, or if it's a trade for someone making less, it will likely cost a lot in assets. Of course, you can also clear cap space, which also costs assets.

This makes the Mrazek signing so frustrating because it looked bad when it happened and it looks worse now. The money would give us the flexibility to keep Campbell if desired or go after a better goalie. If we spend a ton on a goalie then you know some important pieces are heading out the door to make room.

Folks, I don't know why anyone here is surprised that Soupy's agent wants to do what pretty much *every* other agent did with Dubas? take him to the cleaners.... is he worth more than 4m per? Probably not, but we don't have anyone better, that's all the leverage they need.

but we can get somebody better

Fluery, Kempeur, Gibson, Varlamov, Lehner Blackwood are all either going to be on the market or likely to be on the market, I'm a little concerned about Blackwood due to his health but the rest are clear upgrades.

Only Varlamov is an legit upgrade

The question is, do we have the cap space? Getting rid of Mrazek may sound like the optimal move, but a good goalie will eat up that entire cap space and then some and we haven't even started talking about all the other players we need to resign.

Let's face it, this team was the Leafs best chance to win (well, okay, last year was good, too, but this team is better overall).

"Far apart" I wonder what he's asking for. I'd be fine paying him even around 3.5 ish, he is a starting goalie in the NHL no doubt.
Probably 4 to 5 mil for 5 years. I told you guys Toronto players tend to highball offers because they know the Leafs will deal (or at least their agents instruct them so). If they don't, no biggie, they can still get a decent contract elsewhere.

all of them would be legit upgrades, except maybe Blackwood except maybe Blackwood due to health but if he's healthy he's a legit upgrade too

Campbell isn't hard to upgrade on because he's not a starter

While i agree. I am not a Campbell fan at all. But fleuary and Gibson are done

Better off to the trade route

There’s no cap he’ll, that’s just all he’s worth
I agree I don’t think it’s cap hell but the Leafs are in cap juggling let’s say. It’s not a simple as signing a player or two and then trading one. There looks to be multiple trades and multiple signings to fill out this roster. Goalie having the biggest glare to fix.

Some posters think he has some value and will be easy to dump. Dubas blew it with Mrazek and now has to add to dump him. He'd have to have a big pair to go with him as his #1A but it would look good on him. LOL.
Dubas will fix his mistakes by giving away draft picks imo.

A Varlamov-Georgiev tandem next season would be pretty respectable and both goalies are rumoured to be on the move this summer. Dubas could probably sweeten the pot to get Lou to retain even though both teams are competitive, like when the Leafs got the Avs to retain 50% on Barrie.

Georgiev's QO is 2.65M and rumour is Rags are looking to move him before the QO tender deadline because they don't want to QO him. Varlamov at 50% retained would be 2.5M. Leafs could run a 5M tandem next season and get more creative with spending elsewhere, assuming they are also able to dump Mrazek.

The only clear upgrade in the UFA market I can see from Campbell is Darcy Kuemper.

If the Avs make a deep run or win the Cup, I imagine both they and/or Kuemper would prefer he stay in Colorado though.

Kuemper is also older and is injured pretty often so you definitely need Mrazek or another good 1B goalie that can play at least 40-50 good games a year for us.

Anything else and it's the trade market:

- Grubauer - Went from Vezina candidate in Colorado to the worst starting goalies in Seattle. He's not a perennial Vezina candidate but he's not the worst in the league either. This would be a pretty risky trade but he'd also be cheap since he had such a bad season and is being paid $5.9

Beyond that we'd be looking at bringing in a guy from the Europe and I don't know anything about that market.
Holtby? I would feel a lot better about Campbell and him than Mrazek.
