Is he though?
Unless he's secretly signed an extension he's in his last year so yeah
Is he though?
Dubas could roll with Källgren and Mrazek and there'd be some singing his praises... still
Someone had mentioned he had. Wish we could see the details to know for sure.Unless he's secretly signed an extension he's in his last year so yeah
Soup has had 5 chances in past 2 years to win a 4th game to take team to round 2 .. he has failed (0-5) in each in every chance he was given .. like da guy but losers will always continue to lose .. I like da *ssh*les like Roy and Brodeur complete selfish d*cks who you don't want at your pool party but baby they winI really hope we find a way to keep him. I know he wants a lot of money, but he's far and away the best goaltending option we have. Cap space is important, but having a great goalie is more important. Campbell was the best goalie in the league until December, was awful until his injury took him out, then was great down the stretch and good in the playoffs.
The other options are to make a big trade for another good goalie (this list is one, maybe two names long) or go dumpster diving. Dumpster diving for goalies is part of why McDavid is coming here after his contract in Edmonton finishes, there is no way in hell we should be dumpster diving with a group of skaters this good. Goaltending is more important than Nylander, we need to find the dollars to make our net stable. I suspect Campbell is the easiest way of going about that.
How many chances have Matthews and Marner had to win those series? Our core has been losing series since before Campbell was a full time NHL'er. I'd love to have Roy or Brodeur in net, a real "winner", but those kinds of guys aren't UFA's and they aren't on the trading block. With no real chance of getting one, who do we actually want in the net? The choice isn't between a real stone cold killer and Campbell, the choice is shit like Mackenzie Blackwood or Campbell. I'd rather give Campbell another chance to prove he's a killer than waste a year dumpster diving on Blackwood or whoever the hell else the pundits are recommending as cheap options.Soup has had 5 chances in past 2 years to win a 4th game to take team to round 2 .. he has failed (0-5) in each in every chance he was given .. like da guy but losers will always continue to lose .. If Campbell would sign for something starting with a 4 over a reasonable term then I’d potentially agree with you, I also think that deal would be done by now. Just a quick browse of the main trade boards would let you know what other fan bases are thinking and quite a few buffalo and jersey fans see their teams offering 5-6m on a 3ish year term because neither team has a real impending cap crunch coming up and need stability at that position more than anything.
I still don’t know why you think bringing over unproven euro goalies is the solution when there’s like a dozen options out there to pick and choose from in order to create a solid tandem.
Dubas could roll with Källgren and Mrazek and there'd be some singing his praises... still
Yeah what a conquest from taking over a 105 point team with a young AM, Nylander and Marner.Dubas could finish with the highest point regular season in Maple Leafs history, with a Hart and Richard trophy winner and people would still be incessantly whining about him
Oh wait.
Those dozen options are not as palatable as bringing Campbell back. If they go with another Mrazek type that's basically tossing a cup run away before the season even begins. There are no bargains in the bargain bin this year for NHL goalies. I wasn't very impressed with Husso in the playoffs. However Husso and Georgiyev are probably slightly cheaper options.
With an unknown and most importantly undervalued Euro or even AHL goalie they might catch lightening in a bottle on an AAV they can tolerate.
This is a whole lot easier if they just dump Kerfoot and/or Holl to create some room.
Mrazek was put on waivers and nobody wanted him... he has negative value and is a pure cap dumpI don't think Mrazek is a pure dump like everyone else, he has a longer track record of being a decent goalie than a bad one, but I'd like to package him for an upgrade.

What should be the expectation this year, 120? 125?105 team to a 115 team. That looks like progress to me.
I'm waiting till you finally admit you just feel threatened by a younger person then yourself being in charge of the Leafs.
Maybe you need a couple more months of complaining through the entire offseason to get there yourself.
What should be the expectation this year, 120? 125?
Can't imagine 31 teams having that expectation.Id like to hope the progression comes in the way of playoff wins, but I have a hard time complaining about improvement in any way.
31 teams didnt win the Cup

But his glasses and cardigans are threatening to my fragile egoThey dont really have a choice. 31 teams are looking for positives after ultimately failing last year. All but the Leafs didnt have their best player improve enough to win a second scoring title and MVP award. Most didnt improve their regular season wins either.
Are any of the other 100+ point teams complaining about their GM? In most markets that tends to give management some breathing room.

And each year, one does. And over time, a bunch of teams do. And some teams lately have won multiple cups. And for 55 years now, the Leafs haven't. It's so bad, that we'd all be over the moon just to win a single round in the post-season!
But carry on. It's cute!![]()
Ah, so the blame for the past 55 years falls on the GM of the past 4 years. Yes, that makes total sense. Very healthy perspective.
When you try to speak for everyone, you're almost always wrong and this post is no exception. And each year, one does. And over time, a bunch of teams do. And some teams lately have won multiple cups. or he could finish 2nd last without his first round pick and people would believe he did a phenomenal jobDubas could finish with the highest point regular season in Maple Leafs history, with a Hart and Richard trophy winner and people would still be incessantly whining about him
Oh wait.
As a Leaf fan I don’t care about the complaints of other markets. I would assume every fan base that has failed year after year would be disappointed. Some in fact removed coaches after only one year of failure. They dont really have a choice. 31 teams are looking for positives after ultimately failing last year. All but the Leafs didnt have their best player improve enough to win a second scoring title and MVP award. Most didnt improve their regular season wins either.

If you'd be over the moon to win a single round, you need to set your expectations higher because as it is now, you have a losers mentality.
