I understand the arguments against Jagr. I disagree with some of the points being made. I understand the arguments for Zucc as opposed to Jagr.

I'd still prefer Jagr. He will not cost a lot. I like his size and ability (even if it isn't what it once was) over Zucc. I think he provides more size that this lineup could use. Richards, Stepan, Brassard, Pouliot, Hagelin, and even Moore don't have much size. Jagr would be much better for along the boards, he still has the instincts and the shot. He stays healthy throughout the season for the vast majority. Just seems better for the team.

Only way is if the Rangers feel Zucc is not a LTS

The Rangers can't take Stepan to arbitration on Thursday. He is not eligible.

Are you sure? Pat Leonard suggests otherwise, but we all know how many mistakes the these guys make.

Stepan is the only player of these three who cannot elect arbitration as a player, but the Rangers can elect for all three beginning on Thursday after the player period opens on Wednesday. In that case, it all proceeds the same way, with time to negotiate a deal before arbitration arrives.

Edit: The CBA seems to confirm what RangerBoy said. Just another beat writer who doesn't know the rules.

So I see there's speculation Boston may be shopping Marchand and Kelly. I hate Marchand with a passion but he's the kind of player we need imo. Would anyone do Kreider + for Marchand?

I wish we had the cap space for Mason Raymond. I'd love to have a 3rd line of Raymond-Richards-Hagelin

What is the obsession with Jagr? He is not a fit with the way this roster is constructed. I'd much rather have Prospal who'll come cheaper and is arguably just as good as Jagr while filling a need on LW.

I just looked at the list of free agents and saw that Aaron Palushaj is there. He's only 23 and has had a couple very good AHL seasons. I was a fan of his when he played at Michigan. We still have a couple contracts left. Or maybe we can sign him to an AHL deal, but I can't imagine someone won't take a flyer on him. Any thoughts?

Prospal is not as as good as Jagr. We have 3 potential LWers in Hagelin, Kreider, and Pouliot. Jagr can shift between 2nd RW and 3rd RW. Jagr is physically stronger, something this roster could use. More size and strength. He will not light the world on fire with his speed but he will help in other areas.

I'd rather they sign Tolchinskey (sp?) from Development camp. Not sure why they haven't offered him a contract yet.....

I wouldn't be opposed to him. Any connection with him to Hagelin?

Or maybe Krushelnyski? He was a standout at camp also, from what I read.

As for the invitees to camp, as Gordie Clark told me on Thursday, the two players who stood out were Alex Krushelynski and Sergey Tolchinsky, a pair of skilled forwards out of Junior. Whether their play will lead to pro contracts or not is still being debated.

Why Palushaj? If they were to go after an older player I would prefer Blum or Peckham for depth.

I'd love Peckham for the fact that he brings some grit and nastiness to the defense. Other than the new Falk not a lot of grit or toughness at all. Something Rangers management needs to fix before camp.

No particular reason other than I liked him at Michigan and he's had some success in the AHL. He's played 66 games in the NHL and scored 14 points. Probably not going to help us much, if at all, but could be a good player for Hartford.

Prospal is better than Hagelin, Kreider and Pouliot by far though. Jagr is by no means a clear cut upgrade, let alone an upgrade over Nash and Callahan. I don't see room for him in AV's setup.
