Good to get the most important one out of the way. Step, you're next.

Bigger issue I see with that proposed offseason is that all the center depth is completely gone. If Lindberg isn't ready for the NHL they are in big trouble

How do we have an issue at center, we have 6 players on our roster that can play center, plus Lindberg and Miller as potential to make the team.

Stepan - 1st line
Brassard - 2nd line
Boyle/Moore - 3rd line (whoever isn't playing center shifted to wing)
Lindberg - 4th line

We have Richards moved to LW so he can focus on offense and not be a huge liability defensively and we have Powe who can also play 4th line center

This is the best center depth we have had in years

no they are 1 year deal because we don't want to tie up $$ into next year on depth players. the ufa market is expected to be much better if everyone doesn't resign and we have a TON of our own players to resign. if lindberg and fast are ready they will find room for them.

Well yeah that is a given, next years FA market is much better and they will still be given a shot in camp.

Just because you have 6 centers doesn't mean you have depth. It depends on the talent of each guy

Stepan and Brassard have not proven they can be a capable 1-2 offensive punch over a full NHL season. We'll see there.

Richards was a shell of himself last year.

Lindberg is not NHL ready, neither is Miller.

Dom Moore hasnt played competitive hockey in over a year.

Darroll Powe is one of the most worthless players in the league.

Names do not equal depth.

The Rangers aren't keeping all of these forwards.

Stepan
Brassard
Richards
Boyle
Moore
Nash
Callahan
Zuccarello
Dorsett
Asham
Hagelin
Pouliot
Pyatt
Powe

That's 14 one way contracts

That doesn't include Kreider and Miller who management feel will be part of the team. Especially Kreider. Look at the comments made by Sather and Vigneault.

That doesn't include Kristo,Lindberg and Fast(h) who management feels will compete for roster spots.

Assigning Asham and Powe to the AHL clears $1.85M. Leaves the Rangers with 12 one way contracts. Callahan and Hagelin had shoulder surgery on May 31. 4-5 month recovery time. They might miss the first month of the season(at most) but they will be back for remainder of the season.

The Rangers cap is very tight. They can get all of their players re-signed but players will need to be subtracted to make the cap and roster fit.

It's as if this board doesn't watch games

Stepan is a bonafide #1 center, he was our best forward on a nightly basis this season.

Brassard was the key piece in the Gaborik deal, he was brought here to be a top 6 center, if you don't play him as such then he will not be successful.

Richards was a shell which is why he will play wing, but injuries happen as we have seen, it is nice to have someone who can move to center if need be.

Dom Moore didn't play hockey because his wife passed away, not because of post concussion syndrome, with a good camp he will be fine. He waited till his head was clear to sign, I have no concerns.

How do you know Lindberg and Miller aren't ready, has training camp happened yet? I remember people telling me the same thing about Hagelin 2 seasons ago, Lindberg has a chance to make this team as the 4th line center. Book it.

Powe is one of the most worthless players in the league??? Are you kidding me, the guy is overpaid for a 4th line, but he busts his butt every shift, you want to talk about worthless NHL players lets go back to the days of Dave Karpa, Jeff Toms, Igor Ulanov, Valeri Kamensky, etc... heck Mike Rupp had 1 good game and stood up for Del Zotto once, but Powe is the worthless one.

Just because you have 6 centers doesn't mean you have depth. It depends on the talent of each guy

Depth is having guys in the proper position to succeed as well as players who can fill in when injury hits.

Stepan
Brassard
Boyle
Lindberg

If someone on the top 6 gets hurts Richards can move back to center, lets pray that doesn't happen.
If someone on the bottom 6 gets hurts Moore can play center, Miller can be called up, or worst case Powe or Haley can play center.

That is depth... did I say we will win a Stanley Cup? No I didn't, but I guess many of you don't remember the days when we had Nylander, followed by a guy named Rucchin who couldn't stay healthy, Blair Betts, and some rookie named Dom Moore. Compared to that we have come a long way.

You're right. Its as if a lot of people dont watch games....around the rest of the league.

If they did, they'd realize this group of forwards still dont stack up with the best teams in the league.

Stepan was a #1 center for 30 games. We'll see if he can do it for a full season.

Brassard is a big question mark. Again, had you watched him a bit more in Columbus, you'd realize that to be the case.

Don't think theres been any indication Richards is moving to LW. Again, I dont think the center depth is so abundant like you seem to think. If anyone is moving to wing immediately, its Boyle.

I know why Dom Moore hasnt played hockey in over a year - the point still remains.

Lindberg and Miller only make this team if the guys above fail miserably. Theres no need to rush them. Unlike Hagelin, which was a poor comparison to begin with, Lindberg doesnt have North American experience.

But I've saved the best for last, your defense of the miserable Darroll Powe. A man that somehow didnt score a single point in over 40 games - a man touted as a penalty killer that didnt kill penalties all that well. The quicker the Rangers get rid of this guy, the better they will be.

In 8 years, we have a bit more center depth.

Im waiting for Sather's speech with the "Mission Accomplished" banner

I like how they have added some guys with speed into the bottom 6 and guys who can provide some offense as well. So far so good. Pouliot had 20 points last year in 34 games. I don't expect him to put up 50 points but if he can provide 35 points over 82 games that is a very good signing.

Moore provides another quality bottom 6 center and great PKer.

Powe and Asham should be dealt. I wouldn't be opposed to Boyle moving if they can package him for an upgrade somewhere. Detroit needs to move some players. Tatar has no spot with Alfredsson and Weiss signing along with Helm coming back. Would they be interested in Boyle? Nyquist is in the same position as Tatar.

Too many bottom 6 guys.

At Worst Stepan is a 2c, brassard is a 3c at worst, boyle/Moore can absolutely play 4c. Richards is the question mark but he might just end up the 1c with a rebound season

You mean we shouldn't move Richards out of his natural position after retaining him to allow for a bounce back year and help us win the cup?

Moving Richards to the wing seems to address a problem at LW at the seemingly slight expense of our center depth, according to y'all. That's just asking for trouble IMO.

So by your ingenius logic we can discount what Stepan did this season, I guess by that logic Richards awful season is a wash? There was no clear #1 and #2 line for most of the season as Gaborik and Nash were not on the same line for most of the year, so teams top defensive units were usually going against Nash. Stepan is going to face teams top defensive units especially if he is with Nash next year. He is going to get a large raise and there will be expectations along with that raise. He is going to be the teams #1 center, period.

I enjoy your foolish comment about not watching other teams, as I actually catch some Blue Jacket games as they have so many ex Rangers. Brassard has been a player who was in desperate need of a change of scenery for some time. Wow we have another wildly inconsistent player, maybe if you have followed this team under Sather that is his MO. We always seems to be signing or trading for a player with tons of potential, a former top draft pick, who just can't do it consistently. Just look at the signing of Pouliot yesterday as the latest example. If you want I can make a list of all the inconsistent highly skilled players we acquired under Sather, but you know this to be a trend and fact.

No indications of Richards moving to the wing, just look at the Rangers past moves with centers with declining skills such as Prospal, Straka, Lindros, and LaFontaine just to name a few that come to mind. With Callahan and Hagelin out to start the year, this makes a lot of sense to kill 2 birds with one stone.

So Sather who says he wants to leave spots for kids to make the team and Lindberg who has been tearing it up in the SEL, winning the MVP in the playoffs for the 12-13 season has no chance of cracking our 4th line because you say so? The comparison wasn't to Hagelin the player, it was to the naysayers that said there was no way he would make the team. Lindberg has a very good chance to make this team, especially on such a poor 4th line as you point out.

As for your best for last... Who cares that Powe didn't score a point for 40 games, hes plays BS minutes on the 4th line. I know we have had real scoring powerhouses over the years on our 4th line such as Asham, Haley, Newbury, Pyatt, Halpern, etc. Is Powe overpaid, yes, should he be moved for someone else, sure I agree with that. We have had far more useless players over the years, I don't know what Powe did to you, but hes an overpaid Ortmeyer. Given a full camp and no injuries, Powe may have won over some people in time.

I wasn't talking about real life, I was responding to the post above mine about trading Miller and Boyle and a bunch of other players

Amazing post, so insightful. If you don't like what I have to say you can ignore me, fact of the matter is the team actually is starting to put pieces into place to succeed instead of throwing money at every hole each off season. The original post was about depth, we finally have some. You want to disagree thats your opinion, but we are in a much better position as opposed to previous years.

Richards was useless at center in the playoffs, he couldn't handle the defensive responsibilities, he couldn't skate the puck out of the zone, heck he couldn't even pass the puck out of the zone. Richards was literally a turnover machine. Playing him at wing takes a huge amount of pressure off of him, it allows him to focus on offense and creating plays. AV stated he wants the top 6 to be creative, not feel forced to dump the puck and chase, by moving Richards to wing he is getting freedom to be more offensive. Did I guarantee it will work, not at all, but this is something they have done in the past and it has worked well with other players.

Stepan is a bona fide #1 center? Before you go annointing him as a #1 center,(when in reality he is more like a borderline #2 center), can we let him play an 82 game schedule and hope he produces the way he did in an abbreviated season last year?

You can't possibly expect Stepan to line up against the Crosby's, Giroux's, Stamkos and Tavares of the league(all "bona fide" #1's) on a night in and night out basis!

You should rethink your statement about Stepan.
