Sorry, did you say something? Looking at Ms. Phanuef
I don't know whether you knew or not...but she and Dion tied the knot today here on PEI .

Stepan is a bona fide #1 center? Before you go annointing him as a #1 center,(when in reality he is more like a borderline #2 center), can we let him play an 82 game schedule and hope he produces the way he did in an abbreviated season last year?
You can't possibly expect Stepan to line up against the Crosby's, Giroux's, Stamkos and Tavares of the league(all "bona fide" #1's) on a night in and night out basis!
You should rethink your statement about Stepan.
But we got the best center depth in the league! Stepan, Brassard, Richards, Boyle, Moore, Powe, Miller, Lindberg duh!
Although he may not have a "sexy" a name as the guys you mentioned above, he's well on his way to becoming a very good #1C in this league. Give him a few more years and he'll be mentioned along with some of the top C's in the league and not just on a point production standpoint, but as an all around player, in the Toews mold.
Is he there now? Absolutely not! Will he get there? Probably, if you look at his year to year points totals do date.
Do the Rangers need more skill/scoring on the top 2 lines. Absolutely, but let's not discount Stepan, and his potential, starting next year.
Now that's a response that I can relate to! I like Stepan a lot and I believe he will become the next captain here but in all honesty and fairness to him, it would be a mistake to push him into the #1C slot this early in his career.
Well done!

I agree with you 100%!
However, look at this roster, and tell me who in your opinion will be the #1 C on this team next year?
You are sticking your neck out, but to a large extent I agree with you.
I think people are looking at Stepan from a positive side to an extent other players aren't viewed.
On the other hand, we should not forget to look around the league. You mention Sid, Stamkos, Giroux and Tavares, you could out Towes in that group too, I think there is a big diffrence within that group of players too. Especially in terms of having the ability to carry a team. And when I scan rosters of teams in this league, we are certainly not worse of than many other. Boston is so hyped right now; Chicago too. It's so obvious this season having seen many of the players in the NHL being nothing -- and I mean nothing literary -- short of more or less mediocre/strong but not outstanding going up against sometimes second tier players in Europe and then all of a sudden becoming hailed NHLers.
It is really tough to go all the way in the NHL, but -- and this I am certain about so take it as a fact -- the diffrence between CHI/BOS and the "rest" is certain ingridiences and NOT top end skill level or raw skill in certain areas. You need to be really durable to go all the way, that is a roster thing as well as a requirement for your core players. You need at least a mix on your special team (a tremendous PK to make up for a weaker PP etc). Defense. Ability to carry the momentum. That is more team issues than individual talent (having parts that together gives you those things AND having worked together as a team for a long enough time to get you there on the ice).
Our problem is not that Stepan and Richards never could match Krejci and Bergeron in a PO series, that our 6 bluelineers and Hank can't match other teams defense. We have had talent issues, but more because we opted to pay/keep/get/trade for/sign Boyles, Pyatts, Ashams and the likes and not a Handzus or Korpikoski and so forth.
But overall our big problem is that we haven't built a team as well as CHI or Boston. With a Team like those, all of a sudden a Boyle goes Bickell on you. It is definitely NOT the other way around.
Excellent points all well stated.
The problem that I see right now is that all of our competition for a playoff spot has gotten bigger and better while we are hogtied capwise.
Personally, I would like to see Sather roll the dice by putting to together a package of players for an impact player like Evander Kane who wants out of Winnipeg.
That's the only way I see him upgrading a roster which is flawed and doesn't have nearly enough firepower. If we stand pat, I really think this year will be a struggle to make the playoffs!
Besides being constrained by the cap, this team doesnt exactly have many valuable pieces they could easily trade.

I think we could have put a similar package to get Ryan. Don't you agree?
I mean DZ/Girardi as a starting point will/could get Kane in my opinion.

I don't think you have a clue about trade value.
I'm assuming you mean E. Kane and the starting point for him would likely be Kreider or McD.
Unless we're packaging something like MDZ/Girardi, Kreider & 1st, there is no way a package can be solely built around MDZ and Girardi for a star player.
And if you were talking about P. Kane then i just feel sorry for you.
Hey buddy, easy with your smart ass arrogance!
First off, I'm talking about Evander Kane, not Patrick Kane!
Yeah, Evander Kane, who hasn't hit the 60 pt mark yet, and has only 1, 30 goal season, that Evander Kane! I would argue that Bobby Ryan is a better player, but that's debatable. Also, the Evander Kane, with the supposed off ice issues....
So, relax and read what I wrote, you would start with DZ/Girardi, a top prospect, young roster player and a 1st. That should get it done.
Don't you agree with that, little boy![]()

Just spitballin here.
Would you guys rather have Zuccarello or Brunner as a top 6 forward?
If you could get both at a pretty similar price, I think I'd go with Brunner. Right handed shot (Vigneault talked about having RH shots for the PP) and from what I saw in the playoffs for the Wings, looks like a pretty good PP QB with a cannon of a shot.
Thoughts?
