These guys, as much as we don't see it, have value to a team. Your team can't be all skill guys who have great stats all around...

That said, I've a feeling both of these guys are for hartford, or are for trade bait at the deadline to recoup some of the picks that we spent this year

What playoff contending team will possibly want a Jack Johnson? Trust me, he's not getting traded at the deadline.

Well he did play 50+ games for Winnipeg last year, so he probably will make the Rangers lol

I prefer him to JJ, he hits everything that moves which can be good and bad. He has very high hit stats which maybe our advanced stat guys can run but that and $2.50 will get you bus fare yet when you’re sucking the least you can do is hit others. He and Hajek are the only hope of hitting the Exp draft D reqs. He only needs 19 games but someone has to get us there.

they aren’t good at defense either. There are plenty of defensive metrics to look at these days and these two guys are awful

Of course it does. He's the crappy vet signed on a cheap, one-year deal to play in case the kids aren't yet ready. They probably chose him over the handful of other, similar candidates who were available because of his familiarity with Martin's system and because JD knows him and thinks he's a good dude who can fill the role without causing strife if he does get beat out.

He is not at all my favorite choice to fill that role, but the situation is pretty clear and easy to understand.

Then, he will be playing because the kids didn't beat him out, exactly as I said.

It will be a less than ideal solution, no doubt. But also why they acquired him.

Bitteto isn’t a terrible defensemen and jj on a 1 year deal for a million bucks I can live with. Some contending team will want him at the deadline considering he will only cost a fraction of the price. And even if we keep him he won’t be back next year. The rangers are trending up but they aren’t a true cup contender. This is merely because our younger d guys aren’t ready yet. Everyone take a step away from the ledge
