With Brodie to TOR and Krug to STL. Vegas and Boston got a bit of a situation going on for RD.

I wonder if a TDA trade is more likely now. Whoever loses out on AP may take a run at Tony here.

So what forwards are still available that we like?

Looking at depth forwards:

Brian Boyle
Kyle Clifford
Matt Nieto
Matt Martin
Michael Grabner
Joakim Nordstrom

Clifford's the most likely to get the most interest and most term. Nordstrom is the least likely to put up points but he's a pretty good pk'er and a very hard forechecker.

I’m wary of Grabner. He didn’t play well in Arizona, he’s 33 and his success with us is now four and five seasons ago.

maybe he’s toast.

Grabner said yesterday that he isn’t signing with anyone right now and will wait for my clarity on next season before looking for a team.

So we can all forget him for now.

Maybe its worse than we all know. Maybe they hired Martin on reputation only, not even an interview. Maybe Martin has slipped into dementia and can only answer questions with just the name of the player his thinking of that second.

"Hey, Jacques- is there any Pittsburgh FAs we should sign?"
"….Johnson…"
"Johnson?! No, Jacques, this is a serious question."
"…. …. J-Johnson…"
< JD looks nervously at JG > "Ok, Jacques, whatever you say."

It would be interesting, except that JD had a hand in the signing too.

It’s actually impressive how widely panned this signing is

Like I have no idea how the front office thought this one was a good idea

I think you have an idea of why, they know him, they like his personality, they probably feel bad about what happened to him financially. On ice they know he will at least take PK minutes and he'll probably take most of the blame rightly but sometimes wrongly for the forwards not being very good at coming back/defending.

Or at least that is about the best attempt I can make at a rationalization.

Was looking at the roster and Rooney is listed as #16. No Strome.
