That seems low

Yup, honestly wouldn’t be surprised or upset if it’s higher but I’m looking at the Zibanejad’ and Kreider’s very recent contracts I think both sides would use them as reference to a degree (even with a rising cap)

Someone asked about signing EK for 5 years. That would be best......but, I would have a big problem with getting ANYONE that would make the Rangers significantly better "this year"......I've said it before and I will say it again......we NEED one more year of being a cellar dwellar. Lets be patient here.......just one more year of adding good prospects will project into major resurrection of where we want to be.

So much this. Just about every argument about why the Rangers could challenge for a playoff spot is complete with not only "yes' being the answer to every question mark they have, but, a resounding 'yes'. When this team had better and more consistent offensive players, it still found ways to struggle offensively through periods. Even in younger years, Henke had periods of not being able to cover the inefficiencies in front of him. Even with deeper squads, injuries took their toll. Even having a top notch defender such as McDonagh didn't make better defensive groups competent. And now, a team with a new head coach with no prior head coaching experience in the NHL is going to have immediate success, especially in a division where none of the playoff teams above them went backwards? Even newbies such as Hynes and Hakstol needed a couple of years to reach the playoffs. This roster has no resemblance to a playoff-caliber team.
And all of that should be completely fine at this point.

We still don't have our crown jewel prospect. Yeah we all "hope" but drafting top-3 or top-5 next year again would help the odds a bit.

There's going to be ugly losses and learning experiences and no one should be shocked when they occur. As long as there's some "learning" when they occur. This includes coaches and even GM, scouts.

Now the task in front of Gorton are his remaining restricted free agents, which starts with center Kevin Hayes, whose arbitration hearing is set for Thursday. That is followed by winger Ryan Spooner, set for Saturday. Both seem destined for short-term deals that will likely be done before actually reaching a hearing.

Spooner is easy. One year contract. He becomes a group III next summer. The Rangers trade him for a 2nd round pick and a prospect at the deadline.

Hayes. If the report is accurate(the other reports confirm this report),the Rangers are reluctant to have Hayes signed long-term when they are numerous younger options at center. Should be interesting.

One more year? We weren't one last year in a season where everything went wrong.

If they aren't signing Hayes long term then they should be trading him.

No point having him here only for a rebuild and then leaving later. A guy like Namestnikov can handle his minutes.

I can't see him being dealt before camp. If they were going to trade him, they probably would have already that way the acquiring team could negotiate a deal to their liking.

I still think the move is locking him down to a 4-5 year deal and looking to deal him next offseason after Chytil and Lias establish themselves. Having more term on his deal should make him more appealing to the acquiring team assuming he keeps up his play.

What is the official reasoning for trading Hayes anyway? He's still young and improving. We have options down the center but our center depth isn't great great.

He’s looking like either a great 3C or a 2C that leaves more to be desired. Will be making 2C money and his stock might never be higher. Chytil Andersson and Howden should all be middle-six. So Hayes is ripe to be moved for futures.

Yea but in like the 3 career games he's played on the wing he was bad so it's been concluded he can never play wing again

Barring an unforeseen development, the Rangers and Kevin Hayes appear are on their way to a one-year contract that will usher the 26-year-old center to unrestricted free agency a year from now … after he is dealt at the deadline for a presumed late first-round draft pick, that is.

Slap Shots has learned there has been little traction in talks between the parties regarding a long-term agreement aimed at keeping Hayes on Broadway as one of the rebuild linchpins. The improper Bostonian, scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing on Thursday, is believed seeking deal between $5.5 million and $6 million per for five or six years. General manager Jeff Gorton doesn’t seem inclined to make that type of commitment to him.

Regardless, this is where we (and the Rangers) stand. The clock is already ticking on the trade deadline. With the Garden shaping up as an upscale halfway house.

It makes no sense for Hayes to sign a short term deal so he becomes a free agent again in 2-3 years at 28-29.

Trading deadline

Hayes
Zuccarello
Spooner

He actually played the better part of a season at RW and I think his production would be higher there.

This should get us almost the haul from last season.

Hayes = 1st + prospect
Zucc = 1st + prospect
Spoon = 2nd + prospect

Wouldn't mind keeping Zucc and Hayes though.

This weeks podcast we talked about Vesey Hayes and Skjei also the 2020 Rangers outlook and the cap structure. Give it a listen :)
