I don’t see it.
This was I believe a bottom 3 team in the league after the new year and no one ahead of them other than the isles really got worse.
Hanks a year older and what ever they’ll make up on defense by not having AV they’ll probably lose on offense, which wasn’t great last year to begin with.
Shattenkirk too.Possibly. Kreider was hurt. Smith was banished. The kids weren't up yet. They really didn't have (and maybe still don't) players to replace the people they traded. Namestnikov was probably shell shocked. The whole team, I think, was in a state of stupor given this announced rebuild was probably something they didn't see coming.
It'll be interesting. I think if certain things come together the right way, we can be competitive. Not Stanley Cup competitive, but in the running for 8. It just as likely they'll finish bottom 5. Oddly enough, I'm looking forward to this year a lot more than last year.

Spooner was just fine, you can't make up excuses for Namestnikov play last year with the Rangers. He was bad, hopefully he will better this upcoming season.People just assume players fit in after a deadline trade, but it's a lot easier to be traded from a lottery team to a contender, than the other way around. Namestnikov went from a winning culture to a team in a rebuild. There's no "winning vibe" that will lift you.

Kakko would be on the first line.[bernmeister mode]
- Win the lottery
- Draft Jack Hughes
- Trade Hayes for Quinn because he wants to play with his brother
- Trade Zuccarello for a 1st and draft Kakko
- Buy out Staal
Kreider-Hughes-Kravtsov
Andersson-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Namestnikov-Chytil-Kakko
Vesey-Howden-Fast
Hughes-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Hajek
Lindgren-Pionk
Shestyorkin
Lundqvist

Not that I feel the need to be an advocate for Namestnikov, but it's possible that two similar situations affected two different people in different ways.Spooner was just fine, you can't make up excuses for Namestnikov play last year with the Rangers. In what sense? All I'm pointing out is that the Rangers, recently, have had two top 5 guys in their prime who are/were considered elite players and they didn't get it done. I didn't get into team building, draft comparisons, level of "eliteness", or anything else. There isn't any dishonesty in that.
And, I'm sure if I were to expend the time and energy, I could find a whole host of teams with two top 5 picks, either their own or traded for, that weren't successful.
It's easy to make an argument when teams win around a generational player (Crosby) who plays with another almost generational player (Malkin) or a Toews/Kane combo where one was taken 3rd overall and the other 1st within a close timeframe and both became as successful as they are in the NHL. The fact is that most top draft picks will never be a Crosby. That's why he's "generational".
Draft as best as you can. Make trades to make the team better. Hire the right coaching staff. That's the best you can do.
Yeah, and one dealt with the situation accordingly and the other didn't.Not that I feel the need to be an advocate for Namestnikov, but it's possible that two similar situations affected two different people in different ways.
One must know these two players pretty well personally to make such a definitive statement.Yeah, and one dealt with the situation accordingly and the other didn't.

Dude can't even hit 40 points playing with the likes of Kuznetzov, Backstrom, and Ovechkin, and he gets 5.17x6
Incredible.
