My lines to start the year:

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Namestnikov - Chytil - Zuccarello
Andersson - Hayes - Fast
Nieves - Spooner - Vesey
Lettieri
Lindqvist

Skjei - Pionk
Hajek - Shattenkirk
Staal - DeAngelo
Smith

Lundqvist
Georgiev

I think Howden is probably ready but I don’t think they have room for him and Chy/Andy. To me, him and Hajek are going to be the two to watch most in camp.

I don't think any of our prospects make the team straight out of camp.

those would be my top 3 lines too

based on what? we are rebuilding and trying to get younger

I doubt they are good enough to crack the top-9 right now and there is no point in them playing on the 4th line. We basically have a full roster.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Spooner-Hayes-Zuccarello
Vesey-Namestnikov-Fast
Holland-Beleskey-McLeod

And then we have Meskanen and Lindqvist fighting for a spot, with Nieves and Lettieri already having NHL experience. It will be difficult for them to make it straight out of camp.

There's definitely a chance, but it's not as if we have open spots that are just up for grabs. Oh, and if I see one more person penciling in Chytil as our 2nd line center with Hayes as the 3rd line center, I am going to scream. It's ridiculous.

It would be based on the idea that none of them are ready. I mean, if Hajek wins a spot, awesome. But if he looks like he belongs in the AHL, he's gonna go down there. Same for Andersson, Chytil, Howden, whoever. The team isn't going to force kids to play if they're not ready. We're not doing a f***ed-up rebuild like the Islanders or the Oilers where they just throw all their prospects out their to get their shit kicked in all season long.

That said, I do expect that at least one kid, maybe two, will win a spot during camp and the exhibition campaign. My favorite to do so is Andersson--I know we have centers, but fortunately our forward group is pretty versatile. He's my 3C. Again though, just assuming he shows. If he doesn't, he can go be the 1C/2C in Hartford.

IMO Andersson and Chytil would have been in ny last year if the team didn't decide that they wanted their contracts to slide and held them out because of that...

I mean it definitely wouldn't surprise me at all either but man have fun selling to the average joe that you are rebuilding with 0 rookies on the team lol

The average Joe expects prospects to make the team straight out of the draft because that's what they see in the NFL. I've had so many discussions with fans like that who think Kravtsov, Chytil and Andersson are busts because they did not make the team straight out of the draft, because Hischier did it for New Jersey, and McDavid did it for Edmonton etc etc.

I am confident this staff will do the right thing and not rush prospects. Sending the rebuild letter to fans was a huge step that nobody expected. Because this team never had a GM with the balls to actually do it.

I would not be one bit surprised if you are right and also wouldn't be surprised to learn the team would rather the kids playing together in hartford and hopefully winning than losing in ny...I just don't like the idea of going into camp without spots for kids to win spots in a normal year, no less this year.

Whoa! Hold on. ;) There are spots to win. I just said the spots aren't up for grabs. It's not as if we have holes in our line-up. We have 12 forwards, and 2 UDFA signings from SHL/Liiga who are stronger, more experienced and probably closer at the moment to full time NHL minutes than our prospects.

The prospects will have to work for it. Howden, Hajek, Lindgren, Lias, Chytil, Ronning, Gettinger, Day, Gropp, Nieves, Bigras, Lettieri, Meskanen, Lindqvist, Fontaine.

That's a big group of players fighting for a spot, with varying degrees if likelihood of making it. Never rule anything out, but it won't be easy to earn a spot, even in the current state of the team.

if those 2 aren't better than vesey, holland, mcleod and Beleskey we are so screwed lol

Long-term, they will be. But are they physically ready? Are they mature enough? And if it's for the 4th line, I'd rather have our prospects in Hartford. I don't see any positives in having them on the 4th line in the NHL. This isn't Lindberg, Fast, Nieves. These are kids that have top-6 potential and, in my opinion, don't gain much from playing 7 minutes a night in a sheltered role.

Top-9 or Hartford, if it's up to me.

Yeah that's the thing, our forward group isn't bad. We have enough legitimate NHL players for nine spots. Those nine are guys you'd have to trade--you can't just waive them. So barring more moves, competition is stiff.

Bolded part, totally agree.

I am however quite confident that at least one of Andersson or Chytil starts the season in the NHL.

Holy crap that 4th line is bad

The top 9 actually isn't all that bad though, except Namestnikov isn't really much of a center. I could see Andersson or Chytil pushing Namestnikov to the wing and Vesey or Fast on the fourth line instead of Holland.

But it's still early, there still could be trades, and there will be injuries and under performers. Generally I say "if they earn it, let them play" and I think that still applies. If Chytil or Andersson blows everyone away in camp, I think you gotta at least give them a shot.

Also Beleskey is really bad and as blah as I am on Nieves, I"d rather he get a shot on the 4th line.

I'd be shocked if Vesey started the season on the 4th line. He needs to play with better players than himself otherwise you're limiting his impact. Ive been saying it wince he decided to go UFA: He's a complimentary player.

I agree but I also think it'll be up to how he performs in training camp.

If he's overshadowed by guys like Chytil and Andersson etc then he might find himself fighting for a top 9 spot
