Agreed...McLeod probably will be playing in the AHL anyhow. We won’t see much of him. I’d expect. He’s getting a nice salary to help teach the youngsters about the NHL. Is my suspicion.

We don't need him teaching Chytll and Andersson how to punch faces. We need them to score goals, I don't think Mccleod has a lot of experience in that area......

Exactly. As you and @Tawnos point out. The guy has been employed in the nhl for a long time without having great skills. He must know something and be doing something right. If he’s effectively a player-coach for Binghamton I’m fine with that. If he opens the season with the parent club, it’s not a great sign.you're dumbing it down to the lowest level. It's not all about goals. Some players have an impact that transcends stats. Not sure McLeod is even that (character) veteran leader, but that's a different conversation.
Why do guys who stink at hockey always seem to be great at helping guys who don't stink at hockey learn to stink even less at hockeyIt's not about hockey skills, whether "punching faces" is a hockey skill or not. It's about professionalism and how to conduct yourself in all aspects of the game, beyond simply playing it. I think someone who, by rights, has no business being in the NHL but somehow keeps getting employed probably has some wisdom to impart.
I’m not in favor of trading Kreider right now (although I am much less enthused about the coming season than I had hoped) but if circumstances line up, he could also be in that February 2019 rental bin.The Rangers and Columbus worked on the Nash trade for 5-6 months. They could have made the same deadline at the 2012 deadline.
The Rangers and Ottawa discussed the Brassard for Zibanejad deal when Dorion was named GM replacing Murray. Gorton called Dorion to congratulate him. They discussed that trade at that time. At the draft,Gorton and Dorion discussed it again. They agreed to wait until after July 15. Brass had a $2M bonus due. Ottawa paid the $3M salary for 16-17. The Rangers paid it and the trade was made.
After the draft was over,Gorton was asked by Brooks if there were any discussions at the draft which could result in something happening later. Brooks brought up the Brassard trade as an example. Gorton said it was possible. Gorton has made a big trade in each of the last two summers. Does he make one big trade this summer? Hayes? His arbitration hearing is on August 2.
The Rangers need Pacioretty and Skinner to move this summer and for both of them to sign extensions with their new teams. Pacioretty was nearly dealt to LA with a 5 year/$30M extension. Pacioretty didn't like the contract offer and changed agents. Skinner used his NMC to reject a trade or two. Both of them moving frees up Zuccarello to be a prime rental in February 2019.

There are plenty of leaders on this team who play the right way. Give Jesper fasth a letter permanently if you really want a person who exemplifies what it means to bust your ass and do everything right while actually being good at hockey.

Haha. Indeed. Indeed.Jesper FAST (FFS it’s been how many years he’s been on this team?)
You’re looking at these things too binarily. It’s not a matter of working hard or not. It’s about HOW a player who works hard does it. Jesper FAST (FFS it’s been how many years he’s been on this team?) certainly does and he has his way of doing it. He also will be wearing an A, if the end of last season is any indication. Does his presence diminish the value of someone else who does things differently? No it doesn’t. A variety of voices with different perspectives can help mold young people more effectively. And I stress people here, because this conversation is more about the people our young players are, rather than the players they are.
If the Rangers could have found a more effective player on-ice who brings the perspective McLeod brings while being a better player and who also fit their organizational plan, they would have signed that player instead. As has been pointed out, they explored other options and they didn’t happen.
I anxiously await your reply that ignores all of this.

Also Spooner. Though some trades are prolly gonna happen. While I'm all for the grittiness, you have to stop and ask yourselves just where these guys are going to play? Right now, you have probably 8 spots assured (that's provided there are no trades): Zib, CK, Buch, Zucc, Hayes, Vesey, Fast, Names. Then you have McLeod, Holland and Belesky on roster.
Let's forget M, H & B for the moment: if the plan is to try some of the kids, where are they going to play all these "gritty" players everyone wants to sign?
I think the plan all along is to see which the of eight can make the change as well as give some kids some evaluation time.
He needs to grow out his hair again. Sick flow.
Thanks...Forgot about him...I agree about trades coming...but I don't see that happening until after camps have started. Also Spooner. Though some trades are prolly gonna happen.
Are you kidding me?
People on these boards are rioting over the McLeod signing!!

Even @Thirty One was there rioting on his wheelchair.
I’d be scurred if I were JG.

I am well aware that that was the spelling at one time. He changed it, or clarified it, and has never had the H on his jersey in a Rangers game.
You are the GM, you have 6 preseason games, 2 each against NJ, NYI and Philly. They have dressed goon squads against us in preseason before, quite recently too. You know your owner have reacted in the past and held management responsible for not having enough protection.
How do you prepare? Do you have a defense when asked by your owner why of 50 contracts nobody could drop the mitts in the entire organization? A game derails and Ziba is carried out on a stretcher.
It’s not far fetched to expect a GM to at least act so that he can say, well we did sign McLeod but it doesn’t really work in the game today. As opposed to only being able to say, we built a team capable of scoring on the PP if someone take liberties against us...
Back seat driving is always easy.
Just remember, good NHL players don’t translate to coaching. It’s usually the worst ones you don’t expect. I remember hearing somewhere that McLeod was really loved in the locker room. I think it was some posters that said that when McLeod went to the Preds from the Avs (either trade or waivers I forget, I think the latter.) I don’t like signing him either but it’s whatever, there’s a huge overreaction though and this McLeod talk is getting annoyingWe don't need him teaching Chytll and Andersson how to punch faces.
