It's a poorly constructed quote but it's basically Babcock saying there is a logjam at forward. Komarov, Kadri, Bozak and JVR are specifically named by Babcock and saying 2 of the 4 probably won't be on the team. Its vague as to whether he is speaking about this season or alluding to JVR walking as a UFA next summer or guys being moved in the future.

I would have linked the article referenced, but the link appears to be dead.

Toronto, or most teams for that matter in similar situations, didn't sign Marleau without some sort of plan for the extra forwards. Kovalchuk and Duchene may be holding things up, and it only happened yesterday. But I bet the phones are being worked. Just because we aren't generating rumors doesn't mean we aren't asking about these available centers. Stepan is a rare example with Gorton, and that was probably leaked to generate some interest as we were the auctioneer in that case. Shattenkirk rumors said we weren't interested or our offer wouldn't be competitive. It sent a clear message to Kevin. Now that we are buying, nothing is leaked.

I'd put together a package for JVR centered around our logjam at D and put Miller back at C. I like the idea of another Ranger playing for his childhood team and another contract. I've always thought JVR was a damn good player that would be a nice fit here. Not sure the Leafs can afford him anymore.

Holden, Staal @ 50% (I have to think he'd be willing to play for the Leafs being from Ontario), picks as a sweetener for JVR.

Kreider - Zib - Buch
Nash - Miller - Zucc
Grabner - Hayes - JVR
Vesey - Andersson - Fast

McD - Shatty
Skjei - Smith
BearGloves - DeAngelo

Hank
Pavelec

Make 13F and 7D a competition at camp.

THAT kind of offensive depth and mobility/puck movement from the back end? Wowzers.

WINS just said that there's some sort of rumor about Rangers signing a free agent. Being that there really aren't any big names left I can't imagine who is worth reporting on.

Wouldn't be surprised if we are looking at a depth D and maybe even two forwards, I think we had a very positive experience having depth going into camp last season with Gerbe not making it and Pirri and Clendenning putting in some time. Especially at D we have more depth now, but I wouldn't be surprised if we added a couple of forwards like Pirri, Gerbe, Grabner, Jooris and the likes.

Unless those picks are pretty early I'd imagine the Leafs could get a much better return.

We certainly have the cap space for it. Nothing wrong with depth.

I have a hard time passing on legit centers to add a UFA to be wing, and then force the Miller move. Toronto would be stupid to move JVR over the other guys as well, his cap comes off after this season when they need some space.

Kadri has 5 years at $4.5m left. I know as asset hoarders it doesn't make sense to us, but he should be their #1 guy moving out. Best value and biggest strain on their cap. Marner can play 2nd line center. Bozak won't get as nice of a return and he will go in 2 summers, again opening up valuable cap for Matthews.

Getting Bozak isn't a bad idea. He fills the 2C role nicely and only has a year left.

What we'd after him is a big question, but I guess that will mostly be answered by what happens during the season and whatnot.

What would it take to get him?

Its hard to peg now. NJ gave up a spare 2nd and 3rd that will be worse than their own for a cap dump on a very good, very versatile player that does everything. We got a high 1st and a high risk high reward right d.

Toronto needs cap space and defense. What is more important? Is a 2nd and Holden enough for Bozak? A 1st and Graves/Zborovsky/Day for Kadri? That's comparable to Stepan. Kadri is a clear 2nd line center, great cap hit for 5 years. Our 1st is worse than an AZ 1st. Within the conference, so while I think that might be a tad high we may have to step up our offer. If we can come in lower I would jump on it.

A pleasant Avalanche locker room will probably get even more pleasant with a disgruntled Duchene now added to the mix.

Sakic just doesn't have a clue. Now they might have an extremely disgruntled Duchene on their hands.

That should be a fun locker room.

Sakic won't be bullied lol

I picture Sakic looking at himself in the mirror and saying "Don't let them bully you, don't let them call you stupid, you're the best" before every conversation he has with other GMs.

Ha, he should hire a life coach.

How come noone wants to pick up Yakupov? He's obviously been a real bust, but perhaps on the right team he'll develop to his full potential

Zach Hyman would be a good pick up for the 4th line

Jay Beagle (wsh isn't trading him)

JG Pageau would be another option.

Best one may be Bozak though.

55 points, PK player.

They have Marleau, Will Nyls and Marner who can all play center behind AM34 and Kadri.

I like Jay Beagle a lot. I always did. Don't see Washington trading him here, but I like his game a lot.

Makes some sense. I'd rather get Kadri. Get the better player.

Bozak is a filler.

Given the current logjam on D, I highly doubt the Rangers are looking to add a depth Dman.

I'd rather get Kadri too, but I don't think A) Gorton would want to give up what Leafs would want in that trade and B) I don't think the Leafs are looking to trade Kadri.
