I feel like Ivan Barbashev could be had from the Blues. He'd be a nice replacement for what we'd hoped for Lindberg

Oh God, this guy is an idiot. He's really doing Joe's grunt work on PR damage control. The last 2 years Duchene has been in "trade talks" and now it's the saving grace that I'm keeping you. Stop it. It's not a "compliment" ... just shut up Joe!

Is the entire Avs organization and everyone affiliated with it this stupid?

Sure.

I guess my point is that considering the rest of the roster, the Rangers should aim higher. Get a top 6 C instead of a bottom 6 C. Even if it costs more.
 
The chances of him going back are significantly low. Joe has played this as badly as he possibly could.

At this point, I'd rather get a good, young, cheap insurance 3C. They can be absorbed in the roster, Nieves gets to try out 4C, Miller moves back to W. Hayes and Zib will be ok, I think.

You should see the main board. It's just spin control after spin control. Anytime I bring up his 2Y left on the deal to UFA they think that doesn't factor in the price. Logic has no place there.

No problem with Nieves at 4 if he wins the job but they need something better in top 6 at center to compete in the East. The rest of the roster is vastly improved too. No sense in stopping now.

I think it's good he only has two years left. That lines up nicely with Andersson and Chytil's trajectory and the expiry of McDonagh's contract.

I think Joe is using the media to squeeze whatever juice is left in this lemon. He kept pushing the deal off telling himself the deadline would return a haul, the draft would be the answer. Now he is hoping the free agent misses pay off. He has the market price, no question about it any more. Duchene is going this summer.

The sadistic side of me wants him to stay so I can watch it all play out.

Right but that should factor in the price.

5Y of Duchene @ 6M at age 26 is more expensive than 2Y of Duchene @ 6M at age 26.
 
I know that he is preferred at W, but I think JT Miller has come a long way as a player, in terms of a more complete game, and could slide back to C. I'd hate to see them give up assets unless there is a bonafide top 6 C on affordable, multi-year contract coming back. With no moves made and moving Miller back to C:

Nash-Miller-Zucc
Kreider-Zib-Buch
Vesey-Hayes-Grabner

is not a terrible top 9
