Soberish recovering from an Italian wedding in sicily. Laying on the beach decided to catch up and it was a bad idea considering all the whining around here
Reading some of this stuff is enough to make you go find another wedding.

And for the record and I've said it in the past if Karlsson were a free agent you bet your ass gorts would be after him.

He wants a quick rebuild alla boston circa 05-08. So he'll look to aid the assets and prospects we have and will have with a key fa signing to boost the rebuild. Trading for Karlsson and losing the assets he just gained is assinine.

He absolutely will have a key UFA signing to boost the rebuild. Just that imo that signing won't take place until the team is on the rise. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to make a splash as early as next summer and try to sneak into the playoffs the following season.

Sober up, before you post.
He’s 100% right.

People here whine and moan for something, then they get it, then they whine and moan about the opposite thing.

People wanted safe picks so we took Lias over a shrimpy kid who had only played HS hockey. People wanted high risk picks so they took Miller and Kravstov. People whine about their reaches but many of the same people didn’t even know Chytil existed when Gorton was “reaching” for him late in the first.

You can like Mittlestadt over Lias and Wahlstrom over Kravstov but to pretend either was clearly the better choice in draft day is just not true and to compare either to McIlrath is beyond ridiculous.

You probably thought Chytil wasn't the right choice.

I have no problem with people preferring other players at 9. GregSirico has been a fan of Wahlstrom and stuck to it. He really wanted Wahlstrom and I understand. I respect that.

What I can't stand is all the "Kravtsov was a reach" bullshit and people literally screaming, being upset at the Kravtsov pick. Like I said, in Dallas at the AA center, I ran into a Rangers fan right after the pick and he was fuming because he had never heard of Kravtsov and Wahlstrom is a future star LOL. I don't have time for BS like that.

If NikC feels Kravtsov was the wrong choice because he personally felt another player was the better option, I have no problem with it. If there's a valid reason behind it, I am fine with people arguing our picks.

But complaining about not going for boom-or-bust potential in 2017 and then complaining about going for boom-or-bust potential in 2018 is ridiculous. And that's assuming Wahlstrom is the "safe choice" which in itself is ridiculous

I don't know how Karlsson is anything like Weber or why we are taking my statement and picking out the one player of the entire group (and he's not even in that group) and using the one player as evidence otherwise.

That’s a travesty...

He definitely deserved one. But they’re busy giving out lifetime achievement awards to doughty and Hedman

Did he? I don’t think Weber ever has been that solid overall. Heavy shot and very strong in many areas. But also pretty limited in others.

Would anyone say no to Crosby at 28 years old if he were avail and we had the assests to get him whether we were rebuilding or not?

Because I’d argue Karlsson is an even more dynamic player as a Dman.

He’s a franchise altering piece you build around for the next 7 or 8 years. He’s that good.

Generational talents don’t come along often. He is one.

The Kravtsov pick reminds me so much of the Kovalev pick which shocked the shit out of a lot of people in 1991. A Russian player had never been taken in the first round and Alex wasn't expected to go that early either. I don't particularly have a problem taking Kravtsov over Wahlstrom. Given the option I would have taken Wahlstrom but IMO Kravtsov could easily turn out the better player. My main issue with the pick is I would have taken Dobson. IMO he's a legit #1 D prospect with a right hand shot and shut down capability and I hated the Islanders taking him a lot more than I hated them taking Wahlstrom.

Back to Kovalev--he was a key part of our Stanley Cup in 1994 but as a Ranger he always underwhelmed to his abilities......and frustratingly enough when he was with the Pens and Canadiens he seemed to play and reach his abilities. It didn't hurt to have Mario and Jagr with him in Pittsburgh but he had nowhere near that in Montreal. There's no reason though that Kravtsov shouldn't turn into a quality NHL player. The skating, the stick skills, the hockey IQ they all seem to be there and ready to break out even further in the near future. I'll say this I have a lot more hope that he'll be a legit 1st liner than Buchnevich.

I get you. Dobson is a pick I would have loved as well, because I feel they are all in that same tier (Dobson, Kravtsov, Bouchard, Wahlstrom) and within that tier I can see going for need. Dobson as a RHD fills a huge void in our farm.

I think there's an unfair fear regarding Russian players. Cherepanov dying, some Russians not coming over (Gusev for instance). But at some point, we need to get over our fears.
