Wonder if there's a fit with the Sens for Staal.

Unless they are confident in Claesson to play with Karlsson, and they aren't known for being an analytically-inclined team. If we retained maybe we could make it work.

Reminds me a bit of 2008 when we had to send Cullen back to Carolina after signing Drury and Gomez and there was a big to-do about who would fit in the 3rd line center slot- we brought Michael Peca into training camp but eventually let Brandon Dubinsky take the position.

Difference now if that we actually have the caap space to address the issue.

Vermette is the guy I'd really like. His faceoffs last year were off the charts.

Ranger boy had an idea of using Miller to get a piece to send for Trouba. Replace Trouba with a young top 6 center in that sentence.

Price just signed his 8 year extension. Can't wait for it to be $10M AAV and to be an overpayment in just 3 years.

Sweet jesus. Thats quite the hit in years 2 and 3. Is Brad Richards still being bought out at the same time?
Can they not try and move Staal to recoup something without having such a cap hit?

Brad Richards was a compliance buyout following the new CBA. There is no cap-hit for Richards, despite him still receiving salary.

You can stare at the cap penalty, but instead, look at how much we safe.

This Price contract is going to be so bad, but it's the price of doing business with superstars. I doubt Price will hold up as well as Hank either given his recent injury history.

Not like i think Habs had much of a real choice though, they had to pay him and it was always going to be 8 years so.

It depends who we add to our team. Some people are convinced we need an elite center to win the Cup. Well, we won't win one in the next 5 years then. We reached the final in 2014 without an elite center, where we lost 3 games in OT.

Over the last 37 years, there were the elite first line centers: Gretzky, Messier, Mario Lemieux, Bryan Trottier, Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic (and Forsberg), Sidney Crosby (and Malkin), Jonathan Toews.

Somewhere in between that NJ won a bunch with but the game was so different then (that system won't fly today)

Modano with Dallas was a gamebreaker. Doug Gilmore was good, but D Al MacInnis was the gamebreaker & scoring leader for the Flames.

Even the LA Kings did it with huge strength and size down the middle.

I would still like to hold out a bit more. Wait and see. What rookie forces a 2nd/3rd line center out? Who has cap issues? Who gets an injury? Who gives up on the season early? Patience could lead to a bargain pick up.

$18,357,143 invested in Price and Weber until 2026... We don't even know who will be hosting the Olympics in 2026, but Montreal already has these 2 locked up haha

That's an awful deal. And Price isn't going to age like Lundqvist has. He's already peaked and started trending down.
