Bring in Jokinen as insurance to Miller (and a possession driver for Miller or Hayes), then you add a couple 4C options ala Grigorenko/Nestrasil/Rasmussen.

Jussi Jokinen would be an ice addition. He's a solid PP guy from my recollection. Also very good in shootout.

I would HIGHLY doubt the Rangers bring Andersson to the NHL this season. No reason to rush him. Let him develop his offensive game out of the spotlight.

Finding a 4C isn't hard. Kruger most likely could be had for peanuts. John Mitchell. Boo Nieves is an option. David Desharnais. There are a multitude of guys.

3C is harder. Gorton needs to think outside the box a bit for that one.

The question remains, do the Rangers see Miller as a center? He had a career year last year as a winger. He played center in the AHL almost exclusively. If he's a center, problem solved.

I've mentioned RNH already but I think he'd be a nice option as that 2C guy. I still think he will settle in as a 50-55 point player. He PK's and plays PP. Passed over in Edmonton obviously. 6m in salary cap hit may be a tough pill but he has 4 years left and is 24. I doubt the cost will be high.

Would Toronto dump Bozak?

Spooner from Boston seems to be in their doghouse. Defensively he's a mess.

Galchenyuk but Personally see him as a winger.

Kruger's a $3 mil + cap hit. For a 4th liner that's way too rough for my blood and for what he brings. I don't think Mitchell or Desharnais are good options either. I'd rather take my chances with either Nieves or Andersson than any of these. Vande Velde would be okay though.

Jokinen is 34. I wonder how much he has left in the tank--whether that would be worth it at all.

Staal has to be off the team or the 7th D.

He can't take a regular shift in this league anymore in any role.

This, in spades. Gorton will do his due diligence and try to find a taker, but, in the end, he's going to have to buy Staal out. He cannot leave it up to this coach to handle Staal properly. You've got a top 4 Dman in Skjei who'll likely have a bridge contract, with a number of Dmen still on ELCs. You've got Nash coming off the books next year. The buyout penalty isn't pretty in years 2 and 3, but, Gorton has no other choice.

I would absolutely take a chance on Galchenyuk if the price was reasonable. Maybe offer Montreal something like Holden, Graves, 2nd and 4th?

Zib as our 1C
Hayes and Miller or Galchenyuk 2C and 3C

Help either whichever of Miller / Galchenyuk is playing center by giving them hockey smart and defensively responsible wings in Nash and Vesey.

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Vesey - Miller/Galchenyuk - Nash
Galchenyuk /Miller - Hayes - Zuccarello
Grabner - xxx - Fast

The only responsible thing is to get rid of him now. $5.7 mil cap hit for a 7D is not a smart idea at all. Buy him out--give him a chance to hook up with another team.

Would take way more, but I'm interested in him too. While he isn't a 1C right now, getting him gives us two different guys capable into developing into 1C's in him and Zibby.

If MTL takes that for galchenyuk it'd be the heist of the century

Gorton should try and get 1 of Spooner, Bennett, or Jarnkrok as 3c with holden+prospect +/or pick
or..
staal for Bjugstad would be fine as 3c (no way around not taking $$ back)
& sign..
Nestrasil for 4c

don't rush Andersson if he isn't ready

Vigneault isn't going to insert the Russian kid with the cool nickname into the lineup and allow him to grow acclimated to the North American game.

Regardless of his contract status.

I truly believe that Staal will start the season in the top 6 (3rd pairing), and used mainly to PK, since he has AV's trust. However, should he not keep up and his play dips to the level of the past 2 seasons, he will not be in the line up, and I think Ruff's addition, will make it easier on AV, since Ruff has no ties to the player...
Stall, I believe, sees the writing on the wall. If he's not able to improve his play and maintain a top 6 role on this team, this will be his last year in NY. He has seen G bought out, and knows that they will do the same to him. Mgmt has traded almost all of the guys he came up with (Cally, Duby, Anisimov, Hags. etc...).Does he accept to waive his NTC...?

I mentioned in an earlier post, before we signed Shatty, that if they did sign him July 1st, I wouldn't be surprised if Skjei would be traded as part of a package to get a young, top line C (Mckinnon). I want to be clear, that I don't want to trade Skjei, but I don't think our GM planned on signing Shatty, but when he offered himself to us at those terms, I really don't think he had a choice! The reason I'm saying this, is because, I don't think for one second that he got all these young Dmen, to only have them wait on the sidelines, especially ADA and Bereglazov, who have played professionally already.

As another poster mentioned, I think our GM is waiting to see how things shake out over the next few weeks with other teams, especially the Avs, before striking. He said at the end of the year, that he wanted to get younger, as it stands now we've gotten 1 year older (Shatty 28yrs old/Stepan 27yrs old)...

Kruger would be fine with salary retained or if the Hawks send back a prospect/high pick with him.

You don't buy out Staal yet. Too much for too long. He's a 3rd paid guy/gets the occasional rest. Him/Bereglazov/Deangelo should all be rotating that 3rd pair based on who is playing well, etc. All Staal has to do is be the stay at home now. It's a long season. I can see Smith playing with McD here and there, Bereglazov getting top four minutes, Shatty with Skjei occasionally. Staal will see top 4 time situationally. If Graves/Pionk/Day/Zbo any or all are ready, that's a good problem to have.

I'm not a fan of having Anderson in the NHL so early. Give him one more year in the SEL. Plenty of vets they can bring in as a stopgap.

Really curious what Bjugstad would cost.
