Mika had 15 points in 19 games before the injury, which is a 65 point pace, so I'm not too worried about his production. The biggest wild card is Kevin Hayes deciding to not be brain dead and actually be a good hockey player again without being dragged around by his linemates.

I really like Lias Andersson, but I'm not holding my breath that he's going to be the 3C coming out of camp. Let the kid tear up the SHL for a year and then make the jump. This is why Jumbo would have been the perfect 1 year stop gap, but I can't see that happening now.

We need to find a way to move a surplus d or a wing for a center.

The problem with Hayes and Miller is they're both compliments to skilled linemates. It can get stale when they play together.

Hayes' lack of speed is the main reason packaging him for a 2C makes sense. It aligns with the team's identity and would help Miller.

As it stands, Staal and Hayes are the two weakest skaters on the team. Hopefully both can be upgraded upon

I think me and you are on the same page in terms of direction and identity of the team. It's not that I don't like Hayes and Miller, I just don't think they are the driving force on a top 6 line. They can for sure compliment high talent players but the idea that 'sum of the parts' with a bunch of middle tier guys can work should not be the strategy. Moving one or the other along with either Holden or Staal (if someone wants him) in a package for someone who can play in the top 6 should be the plan.

Kevin Hayes is the scarecrow in "Wizard of Oz". If he only had a brain...

I think Mika is a 2C at the moment, and could shine there if given more time and possibly elevate to a 1C. Plugging him there now with the pressure might hinder him, additionally Hayes at the 2 scares me so much.

Jussi Jokinen would be an ice addition. He's a solid PP guy from my recollection. Also very good in shootout.

I would HIGHLY doubt the Rangers bring Andersson to the NHL this season. No reason to rush him. Let him develop his offensive game out of the spotlight.

Finding a 4C isn't hard. Kruger most likely could be had for peanuts. John Mitchell. Boo Nieves is an option. David Desharnais. There are a multitude of guys.

3C is harder. Gorton needs to think outside the box a bit for that one.

The question remains, do the Rangers see Miller as a center? He had a career year last year as a winger. He played center in the AHL almost exclusively. If he's a center, problem solved.

I've mentioned RNH already but I think he'd be a nice option as that 2C guy. I still think he will settle in as a 50-55 point player. He PK's and plays PP. Passed over in Edmonton obviously. 6m in salary cap hit may be a tough pill but he has 4 years left and is 24. I doubt the cost will be high.

Would Toronto dump Bozak?

Spooner from Boston seems to be in their doghouse. Defensively he's a mess.

Galchenyuk but Personally see him as a winger.

Go get me Grigorenko for cheap. He should be affordable and he's young. Low risk, high reward situation. Give the kid a new environment and people to play with.

Why trade for Galchenyuk? We already have a C who's played at wing because he's worse at C in Miller, not like Gally has a much higher ceiling then JTM at this point either, if at all.

People think Galchenyuk is the answer for the exact same reason they think Reinhart is a great prospect, because he was a top-3 pick in the draft. That's it.

Let's not forget that Miller was a VERY good 2-way center as he developed. His 19 year old year at the WJC he was used as a center ton of only Drive offense but also shut down the other teams best players. He plays with an edge and he can distribute the puck. I wouldn't be overly opposed to seeing if he can develop more in that direction.

The team as is sorely lacks a guy in the middle who is a bit of a pain to play against. He may thrive more in that head to head matchup because he is so competitive than just playing as a winger.

if im trading Skjei for Mackinnon..I'm 100% insisting they take back Staal.

Would Staal waive? Probably not..but thats what it would take it for me to break up the best top 4 defense we've had in a generation before it even happens.

Then you could roll...

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Vesey - Mackinnon - Nash
Miller - Hayes - Zucc
Grabner - Lias Andersson - Fasth
Puempel (yuck)

McD - Shatty
Bergazlov - Smith (2 lhd both capable of playing left or right)
Holden - ADA

Nash to contender for a 1st.
Hayes+Graves/Day + 2 1sts for Duchene
Mid-late round pick to Devils for Kovy
1yr deal Cullen

Kovy Zibanejad Zuccarello
Kreider Duchene Buchnevich
Vesey Andersson Miller
Grabner Cullen Fast/Jensen/Nieves

McDonagh Shattenkirk
Skjei Smith
Staal DeAngelo

cup contender? I know it's a pipe-dream but it would be nice

Even if they decide to move Miller to center they would need to bring someone capable of playing tweeter 2/3 center as insurance. Last year we had Stepan, Ziba, Hayes, Lindberg, Miller, Pirri, Hrivik playing center at different points during the season. That's 7. We only have 3 now.

That'd be great but he's shown himself to be a liability defensively both on the wing and even worse at Center.

The whole "Powerkill" myth brought up by Sam and Joe last season makes people think Hayes and Miller are great defensively because they generated shots on the PK
