With Dallas signing Radulov, i think it makes a better case for us to go after Faska. Dont know for what but im sure we can put something together.

I really also like Rakell, we could use another shooting right handed forward in our top 6, could also balance out the pp's

Zibby-----?------Zuccc
Shatty---?

Rakell-------?--------Buchnevich
DeAngelo---?

Doesnt exactly have to be these exact combos but you get the idea...

I don't think Staal is waiving but with Smith re sign and Shattenkirk signing, Staal knows he's not going to get the minutes he's been getting here, and he wont be relied on anywhere near like he used to be. That would be the only reason I could see him waiving.

If you could get him to waive for Vegas, don't you think we would have asked and explored a trade for them to claim?

He wouldn't have been having his trade clause though. It would've been waiving his NMC to allow him to be exposed to the expansion draft (think sending down to the AHL).

But again, there was no need to ask since we bought out Girardi. We weren't going to try to protect Holden and Klein over Staal

Very happy Radulov signed out west. My guy ****ing killed us in that series vs the Habs, kept them in the series.

Yeah, he had a good year and a very good POs, adjusting to a new team and coach, with pretty bad teammates. KHL miles are nothing like NHL miles. Still he had to scramble to get 6m per.

Think a lot of teams will waste more money on much worse assets the coming years. Look at what Justin William got. Rads 10x the player. Many dumb GMs in this league.

Exactly, like I could totally see him waive to a team like Ottawa if he'll be getting top pairing minutes with Jesus Christ himself, Erik Karlsson.

If I'm Staal, I'm stoked to be getting all that $ for third pair minutes.

I mean, unless Skjei is seeing less ice time than Staal, he's not seeing top pairing minutes.

Rakell would be amazing... not happening.

AV has done nothing to indicate that he believes Skjei or Smith are better options than Staal. In fact, he's done the opposite.

Weird. I didn't realize AV was also the general manager. Wait, AV works for Gorton? Interesting. Do you know what happens to coaches who work in opposition to the vision for the team that the front office has laid out? They don't end up working for that team for very long.

Getting Rakell is a pipe dream and a half.

Really isn't up to the GM to make the lines. Coach needs to realize what the clear best team is, though.

I think Gorton has sent a message this offseason that there was a disconnect between the front office and AV regarding the utilization of the defense. Buying out Girardi and re-signing Smith says enough, but then additionally signing Shattenkirk and Bereglazov, trading for DeAngelo, etc. Ruff was also brought in who is legitimate option to take over for AV if it comes to that.

Sure. But if Gorton sat down with staal and told him to expect a reduction in minutes as has been mentioned, then brings in enough defensemen that Staal should be slotting in at the bottom pair, AV kind of has to listen to his boss. Ultimately if the coach is going to refuse to go in the direction that his bosses want, his bosses are going to find somebody who will.

I really like the idea of a bottom six of:

Miller/Lindberg/Jensen
Grabner/Kruger/Fast

But I don't know why Vegas would trade us two good Cs

They have 4 centers without those two. They would lose some players to waivers in a few months unless they shed some via trade. They are looking for picks and I would assume waiver exempt players to fill out the farm team.

The why is easy enough. Kruger's cap hit and the asking price is the hard part.

edit: Vegas centers- Shipachyov, Eakin, Karlsson, Bellamare, Lindberg, Marchessault and Kruger.

21 under contract, 4 RFAs. They would be 2 over the limit if all get signed. It's not a problem but they are trading 2 away regardless. Maybe Holden with his ability to play both sides is attractive, they only have 3 RD.
