there are a bunch of guys with both a NMC and limited/modified NTC but I never understood what the point was. NMC covers all movement. you can't trade, waive or send down. only thing you can do is buyout. So the overlapping NTC is redundant.

my guess is the deals include both clauses but not at the same time.

The thing is, the NMC/NTC isn't stated that way in contracts. That is why the NHL had to look at the contracts in order to determine the protection lists for the expansion draft. Bobby Ryan, who has a NMC, wasn't automatically protected, while Nash with a NTC wasn't.

When a player has a NMC on top of a M-NTC, it just means he can't be sent down to the minors (NMC) and not traded to a list of teams determined by the player (M-NTC).

It just isn't as clear-cut as it is written on websites like capfriendly.

Someone posted an excerpt from the CBA defining the two back in January. NMC stops you from being waived and sent to minors.

NTC stops you from being traded.

Here's a thought, could you use Zibanejad in a package to acquire an upgrade at 1C? We might feel better with Hayes/Miller/Andersson filling out our center depth if we had a legit 70 point center on the first line.

the wade redden rule pretty much makes a NMC unnecessary for anyone making over $3 mil when it comes to being waived or sent down. aside from being forced to protect him in the expansion draft, if staal had a full NTC instead of a NMC it wouldn't change anything, the dead cap space from sending him to hartford would be worse than a buyout

Sorry correction. A NMC can contain a modified NTC to list of team's a player would or would not accept a trade to, but would be protected from being waived/sent to the minors. Otherwise with out that a player would not be able to be dealt at all.

Not necessarily. Being able to send to the minors might be a move a GM does to force a player to waive to go to another team. Sounds nasty but I could see it happening.

I don't think Mika has peaked yet.

I've noticed he's a pretty expendable player around here, which I don't understand. Big, young, hard short, and has a disgusting amount of skill as a player maker. Isn't that what everyone is always pining for?

I think he will be a 70 point center. Doesn't make sense to package him for one.

Just to add, there were 8 Centers who scored 70+ points last year and I can pretty much guarantee none of these guys are going to be had.

McDavid
Crosby
Backstrom
Scheifele
Draisaitl
Getzlaf
Malkin
Seguin

Patience is a virtue. Let Mika develop. I think he will eclipse 70 in his prime.

he isn't brassard

Your right. He's better then brassard

Agreed. Think he'll be great on our first line.

In my opinion we just need a 1B/2A 2-way center to play on our twos, not some superstar.

If we find that through a trade involving Holden/staal/graves gorton deserves a statue (RNH? Coyle? Kuznetsov? J. Staal?)

Slot in Andersson on 4s or any number of Lindberg replacements.
Sounds like as close to a perfect lineup as we'll ever get.

I was hoping we'd sign Kuemper to $650,000 min contract and get Benny to turn his game around. If Benny could help his game, with that large frame of his, I'd reckon we'd have a chance to flip him like we did Talbot and Raanta.

Sam Bennett?

The Flames need a RW. Troy Brouwer and Michael Frolik are the their top two RW's.

Mats Zuccarello.

Bennett is a group II without arbitration rights.

Calgary traded all of their picks for Hamonic and they are in another epic battle of Alberta steel cage match with the Oilers.

Zuccarello helps them try to win right away. They really need that top 6 forward. Bennett is their 3rd line center behind Monahan and Backlund.

Bennett is young(21). The Rangers want to "rebuild on the fly" and remain competitive. Bennett will cost $2M-$2.5M in a two year bridge contract. The Rangers free up cap space for the next two seasons. Zuccarello has two years remaining. Bennett gives the Rangers another young center option.

The Rangers would need more in the deal. Rasmus Andersson? I read everyone crying about the Rangers passing up on Andersson to select Gropp. Adam Fox?

This team is now lacking exactly one thing: a true 1C. And, after our FA signings, the pre-draft trade, and solid drafting in the later rounds over the last couple of years, we actually now have a glut of defensemen:

McDonagh
Shattenkirk
Smith
DeAngelo
Skjei
Pionk
Bereglazov
Holden
Staal
Graves
Pedrie
Day
Zborovsky
Gilmour

There are exactly two players on this roster that I think could be moved as the centerpiece for that missing 1C: McDonagh and Skjei. They seem to have made it clear, however, that McDonagh is staying. He's the captain and both Smith and Shattenkirk listed his presence on the team as one of their principal reasons for coming aboard. Also, he's two years away from an expensive extension, at the age of thirty...

Now, I love Brady Skjei as a player and think he has a promising career as a top pair, and even potentially #1 D, ahead of him. But you can make an argument that he's even more valuable than McDonagh due to his age and the fact that he's under team control for four more years. Also, we already have McDonagh, Smith, Bereglazov, Holden, and Staal on the NHL squad who play the same position, with Graves, Day, and Pedrie (and Gilmour, though he disappointed last year) in the minors, all quite close (not necessarily for top-4 duty, but certainly for bottom pair). I also believe all our unsigned D-men but for Nanne are LHD as well.

Would you trade Skjei as the centerpiece of a deal for, say, Nathan MacKinnon? Believe it or not, he's actually two years YOUNGER than Skjei, with a fixed cap hit of $6.3MM for the next six years (a.k.a. the length of Girardi's buyout). MacKinnon's more established and has the allure of being drafted #1 OA, but defensemen are more valuable than forwards, and Skjei's contract situation is better. Is there a deal to be done straight up? How about Skjei and Hayes/Miller for MacKinnon and picks/prospects?

Thoughts?

pipe dream to expect MacK just for BS.
they will prob bite at BS and McD
that is too much, but thought of Kreider - MacK bookends too seductive

However, sakic taking his sweet ass time and while we are holding on to skjei, not likely so for McD

All the best to you both.

They're suddenly adding a ton of experience. Dom Moore, Marleau, Hainsey.

I understand Toronto is young and could benefit from a guy like Marleau influencing the young 'ens ... but he's 37 and not even a 50 pt player anymore. This is head-scratching.

Also just saw the Carey Price deal. With ever increasing salary caps, I suppose it's not the most horrible contract...but I certainly wouldn't have offered him that contract. I'm glad, though...it means less money for the Habs to spend on other quality players. :D

Finally, I see people are now saying Staal's contract might allow for trades. I've been relying on capfriendly and ridiculing peeps on the forums who won't stop talking about trading him. If I'm wrong, I'm sorry...but I need to see proof that he has/will have a trade list.
