I can't help but get a bad feeling that we somehow get excluded from this. Like somehow Tampa will make it work because Gorton's fee for laundering is too high. I ofcourse hope for the best but this is one of those blockbusters that im really cautious about. I always thought our cap dump trade would end up being Lucic and Puljujarvi

If it falls apart, I doubt it’s because Gorton set the price too high.

That’s part of the challenge we have on here.

We have tidbits of information, and the imaginations run wild. Then if it doesn’t happen, we assume we screwed up. The reality is that there’s not always a good offer on the table, and the so-called negotiating is to try and build one.

So in the end, we didn’t lose a deal. There might not have been one on the table in the first place.

The self-loathing is strong around here at times.

We came with 2 goals of back to back Stanley Cup finals appearances.

We’re doing a serious rebuild that has us debating the rankings of NHL prospects who are sitting in the 12-14 slot.

We have additional assets we could trade, if we so choose.

The last 13 years have not been a dark period for this franchise, nor is our current situation.

We have some work to do, but let’s not get carried away either.

I should just put ‘Don’t kill the narrative’ in my signature.

Don’t know that yet.

There’s a very real possibility this team just traded a good chubk of its top prospects and the equivalent of 5-6 first round picks.
I doubt they move Sergachev or Point, so they'll be fine. Their entire core is under 30 as well.

Right now, not problem.

A few years from now? I think it’s going to get pretty tight.

I’m not, nor have I ever been as sold on an aging McD and now Karlsson as some.

Not to mention Stamkos who has already had his share of serious injuries.

Plus that entire team is basically under a MNC or NTC. Going to make for some rough decisions moving forward.b

I was never sold on extending McD. Karlsson is in a completely different league of players though. He’s truly something special.

Looking at the AAV and term on free agent contracts for veteran fourth liners, there can definitely be other teams that would take Cally for less than we want, that's not ridiculous.

Unless the Rangers make it affordable for you.

We’ve gone from the team that pays for every big star to a team paying for Tampa’s stars.

Which we also don’t know yet.

Nor do we know what the Rangers “fee” would be, assuming they are even involved.

I just don’t know how we can like or dislike something that hasn’t even happened, and may never happen.

I think they'll manage. It's not like their 'bad contracts' have stupid negative value besides Callahan.

He carries a 5.8 million dollar cap hit.

Which teams have the space to afford that, would be willing to pay that and would be a place where he is willing to go?

Fair point, but at least they're adding elite talent - I mean when was the last the best defenseman in the world was traded? You'll have to go back to when the Flyers traded for an aging Pronger 8 years ago.
I don’t disagree, but if he gets 11 million a season how do you afford kuch, point, sergachev.....you cant

I agree he is a special player. That’s never been the issue.

But it’s also worth noting that the Rangers aren’t the only path to facilitate this deal.

Assuming otherwise would be a major mistake.

Based on what we got for McDonagh, I am assuming it’s far less than what I would want for building the most stacked team in the league.

Intentionally helping another team become more competitive leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. We better get something of serious value for this.

Depends on how you view McD in two years, or movement clauses associated with guys like Miller and company.

The problem with contract situations is that they all look amazingly easy to solve when a team is in their window. It’s the reality of the bills actually coming due that often causes some heartburn.

It is ridiculous. I don’t want Cally at all, helping Tampa makes it even more bitter. I want ****ing Sergachev for this ****.

This. Why are we obsessed with adding a guy who left fof $$$ in the first place? Not to mention that he's a straight up bad hockey player for years.

Knowing Yzerman, the value well get will be someone like Killorn...

Well that’s probably the first aspect to consider.

The Rangers priority isn’t to help Tampa. It’s to help the Rangers. The Rangers are only involved if they can get something of value.

Having said that, I would also caution that we have to be realistic about what that potentially entails.

I get the sense that we’ve become so obsessed with getting perceived “revenge” on Tampa that we often struggle to gauge some of these scenarios — real, proposed or otherwise.
