If the cost for dumping your $5M 4th liner is just giving up another shitty hockey player, then Gorton should be fired for not trading Girardi and Glass for Tavares.

Honestly, when we're trading big name players and people are saying "we're not trading XYZ player if we're not getting such and such back" I always think they'll be disappointed. But in this situation we really don't have to facilitate a trade like this. Tampa are the ones that are going to lose out on EK.

I don't really hate him but I never loved him as a Ranger. It's weird. He was the ultimate team guy and should've been easily loved by all but he just never did it for me. There are probably 20 guys or more that I liked over him since he debuted.

We traded him for ****in Marty St Louis. I was elated. Then we made it to the cup... I don't miss him.

I don't miss him either but I wouldn't mind him back as a cap dump if the Rangers get something in return. I think he could be good for a young team and he can still play.

At this point I don't really mind the Rangers "helping" Tampa as they're honestly not competing against each other anymore at this point. Maybe if the rebuild works and 3-4 years from now the Rangers are contenders...but then Tampa's window will be closing

Don't know why anyone would be pissed at Callahan. He saved Sather from having another albatross contract on the books, assuming they still re-signed Girardi and Staal.

Marty did more for the team that season than Callahan did his Ranger career TBH. Good trade.

I might have asked this I don't remember. How much can we expect from Tampa if they're going to be giving up picks and prospects for EK and already gave some up to us for McD? How much do they even have left? Also, are there other teams that can provide cap relief that we're competing against here?

They still have Foote, Cirelli, Raddysh, Volkov, Dotchin etc. They are ridiculously good at drafting and developing players.

Makes a lot of sense...

I wish we could get Dubinsky back instead. That I would cheer my ass off for.

...and that explains quite a lot.

I liked Dubinsky better. As a fan. I won't put Dubi on the list of "better Rangers" than Callahan, but it's close.

To the first comment, why the sarcasm? I didn't f***ing love the guy. Who are you to say he has to be my favorite player?

Um.... You replied to my comment with "absolutely laughable" when I expressed my opinion...

Regardless, no it's not close. I guess that's my point there. I'm fond of Dubinsky for his tenacity, but Callahan was a very, very good defensive forward. Dubinsky is, simply put, a poor decision maker with bad positioning instincts. People who think Callahan's value was in shot blocking or being an "ultimate team guy" don't understand his game, or at least what his game was before injuries.
