Well for starters a right d needs to get moved out.

Carp isn't far off here. A third team is only necessary because it seems like the whole team has modified NMCs. Probably safe to assume Ottawa is on them all.
He is off, they cannot fit it in their salary at all as it stands

As a hot take, I wouldn’t be upset.

But the overall satisfaction would also depend the Hayes return.

Admittedly, you could be looking at a double return. Hayes in the short term, and Johnson a little further out.

But on a personal level, I have a hard time seeing Johnson as our fee for taking on a bad contract.

That was kind of my thought process as well. Move Hayes now, move Johnson in a couple of years.

There's also the possibility that Johnson rediscovers his game with a consistent role. Could fetch a haul later on, while the Rangers might feel selling on Hayes now is at his peak value. A gamble for sure, but not entirely insane.

As you said though, that's a hefty price and not one I would expect Tampa to pay.

to TB: unrestricted EK + Ryan = 13.75 incoming
less similar slightly less outgoing

to Sens: Staal [half] + Smith + Foote + = 8ish
less 18ish = 10m cap savings

to NYR: TB 2019 upgraded to 1st, also 2020 2nd, -- EDIT CORRECT not 2nd but 2020 1st ---
Miller, Point, MacArthur, Callahan = around 17.5
less 7m ish = 10.5 cap hit

If JT is welcomed back post AV that is an option, if not, we have a valued trade chip, plus Point, + did not have to take Ryan + picks

if there is a 3 way, this is what we should press for

Tyler Johnson is 27 and a 45-50 point player, he 6 more years at 5 per year, for these next 3 years he has a FULL No Trade Clause, and then in his final 3 years, 2021-2024, he has a Partial No Trade Clause that permits him to exclude 11 teams (12 if another team joins by then)

No. Thank. You.

Personally, I'm starting to root for the Penguins next year. That would shut up Leaf's and Tampa's fans.

This is so lopsided for the Rangers it is insane

We trade Staal at 50% which is negligible value, but also dump Brendan Smith

So for taking on Callahan and MacArthur we get Point, Miller, a 2nd, and a modification to past trade in our favor

Johnson has a terrible NTC in his contract and is already 27

Not only does it go against what our narrative for the past 2 years, but it is also a bad contract to take

Okay, I wasn’t aware it was that bad. I figured, as Edge also alluded to, that we’d just flip Johnson at a later time. Hell, how desperate is Montreal for a center?

I know I'm a few thread pages late, but I can't help myself because someone, anyone needs to say it. I'll never stop being amazed at Ranger fans who harbor any kind of negative feeling toward Ryan Callahan, a homegrown player who did everything this team asked of him. The guy put his body on the line every single night and clearly shortened his career and damaged his body to allow the team to play the style they wanted to play, shouldered more offensive responsibilities than he ever should have because of management's perpetual incompetence and inability to draft, develop, or acquire elite offensive talent, was a model citizen and admirable leader, and established himself, for as long as his health allowed, as one of the best away-from-the-puck players in the league.

For years, all this fanbase wanted was homegrown talent that bled blue. This guy exemplified that. He wanted to get paid, and guess what? He deserved to get paid. And in his first full year in Tampa, when he played with top talent, he produced.

I'll never understand how this guy gets more hate from some fans for wanting to get what he earned than the endless parade of overrated garbage this team collected like a bad addiction and overpaid before any of them had ever earned a thing wearing a Ranger jersey.

I, selfishly, would love to see Callahan back with this team, wearing the C that he earned, and setting an example for the next generation of Rangers. This team should only be so lucky if any of these prospects or young players turn out to be half the kind of Ranger that Ryan Callahan was.

But for his sake, I hope he gets to stay in Tampa. He deserves a Cup, and when healthy, was still a terrific bottom 6 role player for the Bolts.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Aside from Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan Callahan is the most important post 94 era player to put on a Rangers sweater.

Bro... you have a ****ing TBL Cally as your Avatar. I can't take your post seriously.

Also Jagr

Why are people assuming tbl wouldn't send any salary to ott? I'm sure something of cap would be involved headed to ott in a trade. I doubt it would all be futures.

Are you the Rangers fan who went batshit when we traded him, swore off the Rangers and became a Bolts fan? There were a couple.

This is so lopsided for the Rangers it is insane

So for taking on Callahan and MacArthur we get Point, Miller, a 2nd, and a modification to past trade in our favor

It is a win, it is not lopsided.
We are taking on a serious chunk of debt, and even if it is not all concentrated in Ryan and easier to move, we are still backscratching so TB-OTT can get a deal done.

Hell no, we shouldn't be making cap space for others available cheap, and if Ryan is involved, either Sens deal with us directly in a $ deal, or do something measured like the above.

If the Rangers decline to be a third party in the Karlsson trade, will that make the trade impossible for Tampa?

I probably view Johnson as more of a 50+ point player.

At 28, I wouldn’t view him as part of the longer-term plans. But he would bring experience, two-way play and probably a pretty nice return in a trade.

For a 28 year old, two-way player signed into his early 30s, his cap hit really isn’t bad. I’d also venture a guess that he’d be willing to move if it meant going to a contender — a sales approach the Rangers would likely pursue next March.

If we’re talking about him being the fee for taking on Callahan’s salary, I think the ROI would be pretty good as part of the above scenario.
