Mitch Stephens and Cally.

Stephens was drafted 33rd OA in 2015. Tampa took our 1st rounder that was sent with Cally for MSL, moved down (giving the Isles our pick) and drafted Stephens.

Full circle.
/in before RB.

I would like a lot more back in the trade. We don't need to do this at all.

I like how this ends though.
I would too, but I don't think that the Rangers get anything more than the 2019 1st outright and a prospect or pick for taking Callahan.

Here's the ideal scenario....

Karlsson goes to Tampa without an extension.

To TB:
Karlsson

To NYR:
Callahan
2019 1st Top 10 protected (condition from McDonagh deal removed)
Tampa 2019 2nd rounder

To OTT:
Cal Foote
2020 1st
Boris Katchuk or similar forward prospect

Tampa wins the Cup. Karlsson doesn't extend. Karlsson signs with Rangers July 1st, 2019.

No way OTT doesn't get Sergachev/Sergachev+ back for Karlsson, no way Tampa gives up cost controlled great young D without an extension on Karlsson with their cap hell looming.

Which is what exactly?

The narrative that they got hosed at the deadline doesn't really fit anymore. You can't really hang your hat on that complaint anymore with out being blatantly dishonest.
What I think of McDonagh and Miller =/= their value.

The value was underwhelming considering we added pretty significantly to McDonagh. I expected that return for McDonagh alone.

Is it possible that Tampa is trying to not only dump Callahan on the Rangers but also trying to convince them to send the 2019 1st to Ottawa (with the condition dropped) in exchange for a prospect?

Ottawa probably wants that pick along with other things.

Tampa’s first is really late. It’s a very big difference between picking 10 to 20 or 30th or whatever. Taking on a bad contract to basically move up from 60 to 30 is ... kind of typical for what Gorton would get after trading with Tampa.

He trades for a pick he already traded for... The big question is probably if Gorts will add a 3rd to get it done.

Rangers will be facing EK for 7 years. They need to take that into account with what you want back for Callahan. Its not just them dumping Callahan. Its them getting one of the best dmen of our generation

Taking Callahan's $5.7M cap hit for 2 years is not that big of a burden. It's not worth a package that can net you a literal f***ing 2nd line player. It's insane.

If there isn't another 1st/2nd coming back in addition to the condition bring dropped, they can find somebody else to do them a favor IMO.

I'd be cool with Volkov, Stephens, or Raddysh coming back along with the condition being dropped and a midround pick (3rd). Need to have some players a bit further along the development curve.

That would give the Rangers 5 picks in the top 93 before the season even starts.

Who cares. He's gonna end up where he's gonna end up no matter what...u might as well profit from the move than let someone else.

Yeah, I'm a little leary of potentially helping another eastern team become a dynasty for an extra draft pick.
