The Rangers simply aren't the Coyotes. They have way more invested in team infrastructure, they are much better run no matter how many people dislike Sather and Gorton, and they are a way more attractive free agent market, and thus will attract guys to be relevant.

Ending up like the Coyotes is simply not a realistic fear for the Rangers, so using that fear as an excuse to not tank is a non-starter. We can tank away without fear that we will ever be the Coyotes. Even a failed tank will see this team as a 8 seed again very soon. The point is to aim for more than that.

This, this, this. People look at teams like the Coyotes and the Oilers and can't comprehend how they still suck with all the top drafted talent they have. This should be a very clear indication that there's something else going on other than the players not being good enough. The fact that the Rangers manage to be decent despite an utter lack of elite talent should be an indication that whatever problem Arizona an Edmonton might have is simply not an issue here.

I don't view Edmonton's continued struggles as evidence that tanking isn't a highly probable path to success. It's evidence that Edmonton is a poorly run organization with issues deeper than the roster itself.

It's not a coincidence that the big market tankers have won the Cup.

random thought. It might be good if the Rangers signed someone for 1 year slightly above market so that player essentially is getting more money but also makes them a good asset come trade deadline. Would not mind setting ourselves up to get an extra 1st or 2nd for next year.

There's going to be a lot of growing pains over the next couple of years.

Even if most things fall into place, and most of our top prospects hit close to their potential, it's going to be a bumpy road.

The Rangers will augment what they have when the time is right. They will not have a problem attracting players, so long as they manage to build a system that works and correctly identify the keepers from among their cupboard.

But let's also freestyle for just a second. Let's say the Rangers have three first round picks in the in the 2019 draft. Let's say they grab an elite prospect --- be it one of the coveted centers, be it a top defenseman, be it a guy we have on the radar from now, or a guy who emerges later in the season. You're adding those players to create an absolutely STACKED organization.

I'm really not lamenting not going after some of the names we've thrown out there today.

I don't want to trade a guys like Zucc or Hayes just for the sake of trading them. But I also can't help but feel that there will be good offers out there for them --- in time.

Will they meet the fantasy trades we concoct around here? Probably not. But they'll probably return a solid value.

Like I said, there's really nothing to be upset about right now. I'm sure there will be at some point, there always is. But for a rebuilding team, we're really not in a bad place at all.

Clearly all you care about is character and not talent.

Fire Inferno!
It's kinda funny...for years I used to go about 3 rounds higher than I should have in rec hockey strictly because....I brought team water. (I did so because I didn't trust the captains to use fresh water...I know for sure some of them keep the waters in the bottles all week long)
It's kinda funny how some ppl value things more than others.

this organization has added some legit talent the last 2-3 drafts.

one more poor season and we should be able to add more high end talent. the pool is getting deeper.

this rebuild is real. were transitioning from a team of FA's- both pro and unsigned college and poached high picks to an organization that builds via the draft and develops prospects .

i dont trust gordie clark as far as i can throw him, but weve done better of late.

we have some real gems in the pipeline now. were getting there.

its gonna be dark before it gets light however.

I often wonder about this ... our first round picks (outside of McIlrath) have been solid ... we have made some decent upside picks in later rounds, what's the issue?

looking ahead, will 4 1st rounders be worth Kucherov at 7yrs/84M$?

To put some reality behind it, would you trade JT Miller, Skjei, Chytil, and Kravtsov (our last 4 own 1st rounders) for Kucherov at 7yrs/84M$

Clark has been hit and miss obviously, but how the 2017 draft has developed so far gives me a bit more hope in him. Obviously how both that draft and 2018 develops will be either cause us to sing his praises or call for his job.

I remember everybody being so excited to get wahed up Ryan Clowe, and Brendan Smith was such a steal for two draft picks....

Do you remember that? Really?

I remember the trade for Clowe involving a lot of "LOL zero goals bwahahahaha."
I remember the trade for Smith involving a lot of "LOL not just one 2nd, but TWO bwahahahaha."

Both trades were received fairly poorly from the fanbase.

I hope Lou burns the place down trying to get revenge.

DO IT YOU f***ING COWARDS
