I'm really confused by what all the posters saying Gorton messed were expecting. I'm in the camp of "no signings are the best signings" Of all the signings that were made, there aren't any I'd be ok with on our cap. I'd want to amass as many 1st round picks from lotto potential teams this season but we are talking about signings and not trades here.
This is the best FREE AGENCY we had in YEARS. And we did nothing.

Do you ever post anything even neutral at this point? I'm not even asking for positivity. I'd just like to see a post where you're not *****ing about how terrible the team is and will be forever. The Rangers went to 3 ECFs in 4 years with **** all at forward compared to the top offensive teams in the league.

Yeah we went to 3 ECF's in 4 years and we blew it and then tanked the team while our rivals swallowed up all the Cups. Hop hop hooray!

I don't see why I have to be positive. We're in a shit situation.

Let’s no kid ourselves, there’s going to be a little t of ugly nights this season. And Henke can only do so much. As things stand, this is easily a bottle m five team. Henke’s paience has s going to be tested on a nightly basis.

I'm definitely not kidding myself. I EXPECT this will be a bottom 5 team this season. And yeah, some nights they will get blown out for sure. But on other nights they'll make it entertaining and hopefully we'll start to see progress on an individual and group basis at some point. Winning won't likely be the usual outcome, but that doesn't mean they can't bust their butts for 60 minutes win or lose.

I'm happy about it because after years of going for it every time at all costs they have hit the reset button and are going to start over with a different approach. I have no doubts the day will come again in the not so distant future when it is our name associated with the big UFA signings...but for the next little while we will go about our business putting a good young core together and getting our cap situation in a place where we will be able to be "winners" in free agency once the time is right. So yeah, it might not be exciting to do absolutely nothing in free agency, but it's an important first step in a multi step program.

I don't disagree with that idea, but I don't trust management as much as everyone else does nor do I think we're off to as good of a start as everyone else does.

Management has told us what they value. They told us straight up in no uncertain terms. It doesn't sound promising.

So how do you want to go about winning a cup? With McDonagh who will be not worth his cap hit by the time the team would be good again? Seriously, we have no other choice to win the cup at this point.

And I didn't say you should be positive, just stop posting in every thread how this is the worst team in the history of mankind and will continue to be so for eternity.

That doesn't mean I have to be happy about it.

This place has been like a Stanley Cup parade this summer.

"Hooray we did absolutely nothing in free agency and we're going to be unwatchable!"

You might have said this in a previous post, but there is too much to go through. What exactly would you have liked to see the Rangers do? I'm a bit confused what you are advocating for when you are complaining about us not having the core to become a contender, but you also want us to lock in contracts to a core that can't contend? Shouldnt you prefer we not add any help to this team so we can bring in that elite talent you are pining for?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of all the moves they make. I think they over paid to move up to get Miller. And I think drafting a G with the 48 pick in a deep draft was a HORRIBLE decision. But that said, the cupboard is starting to fill up with some pretty good prospects, a couple of whom have serious upside. So while there's still work to be done, I'm happy they realized you can't keep trading your 1st round picks for one more chance at glory...particularly when that glory never arrives.

I for one am pretty happy we didn't sign anyone for long term. If you wanna pull the trigger pull it next year for Seguin or maybe even the bread man. Now is the time to be patient. I'm glad Gorton is remaining patient so far.

Have you guys seen the Leafs, Flyers, Jets, Canucks, and Bruins young talent?

There's no way this team has a top 5 future right now.

It's better, and it's in the neighborhood of top 10, but as usual, we're the Rangers and we're better than everyone else. That's always been the attitude of this team for some reason. Knicks success with Yankees ego. That's why nobody likes us.

I wish that was the only reason nobody liked me lol

Yeah. I realize this is "hockey's future" board and all, and that a rebuild is needed. But the excitement of the fan base over at least several crappy seasons at best before we are even a playoff team is really strange to me. And that's if Gorton did a good job, which is still up in the air.

The big names left are James Neal, Patrick Maroon, Robin Lehner and Calvin de Haan. I don't think the Rangers are in on any of them.

There's a few interesting younger players depending on whether you're willing to take a shot at them. Anthony Duclair, Dylan DeMelo, Christian Folin, Nick Shore and if you're feeling really brave Nail Yakupov.
Yeah there’s absolutely nobody that I think is a must have. Would rather see what the trade market has available.

Chicago Vancouver Buffalo Arizona and possibly even Detroit with Zadina coming in all got better.

Rangers did not. At least not yet.

Right now we’re easily a bottom 5 team along with Ottawa and Montreal. Probably the islanders as usual jump back into the bottom 5 where they belong. Detroit probably rounds it out still.

This is a good thing. Either we suck and get a high pick or our young players developed tremendously and we were better than expected. It's a win-win either way.

I would like to see this team continually taking steps to get better. Today along with the rumors of dealing Hayes make it obvious this team is committed to getting worse. I don't agree with it. We sold already. We don't need to sell again and finish even lower, especially with our propensity for reaching. We would most likely get the same guy picking 9-12 as we would picking top 5 knowing how this organization operates. From what we heard, they only had Svechnikov ahead of Kravtsov. So I'm led to believe that if we pick 3rd, we pick Kravtsov. Nothing against Kravtsov, but why bother tanking?

For forwards.

We don't know how they had the defensemen ranked.

And none of this applies to the draft next year.

We're excited that management is doing things correctly and not trying to bandaid over things and give it "one more kick at the can."

We're willing to sit through some crap seasons (after having like 12+ good ones on a row) because that's what you need to do to be competitive in today's NHL.

Come on, Gorton. What kind of chump doesn't get all the pieces necessary in a rebuild in 4 months? And then you compound the problem by not signing these free agents to better deals than they got today. And you sheeple have the gaul to be happy Gorton did that thing he said he was going to do.
