We're excited that management is doing things correctly and not trying to bandaid over things and give it "one more kick at the can."

We're willing to sit through some crap seasons (after having like 12+ good ones on a row) because that's what you need to do to be competitive in today's NHL.

Are we doing things correctly? Maybe. Gorton may have totally blown the 2nd round. If only one of the 1st round picks pans out, then Gorton blew the most important draft in years. We could be back to a playoff team in a couple of years, or we could be in an edmonton like death spiral for a decade. I'm just surprised there isn't more trepidation. Plus its going to be painful to watch for a while.

I would like to see this team continually taking steps to get better. Today along with the rumors of dealing Hayes make it obvious this team is committed to getting worse. I don't agree with it. We sold already. We don't need to sell again and finish even lower, especially with our propensity for reaching. We would most likely get the same guy picking 9-12 as we would picking top 5 knowing how this organization operates. From what we heard, they only had Svechnikov ahead of Kravtsov. So I'm led to believe that if we pick 3rd, we pick Kravtsov. Nothing against Kravtsov, but why bother tanking?

Well two things. I believe they said Kravtsov was the 2nd forward on their board. Meaning he was behind both Svech and at least Dahlin. Would your tune have changed if they got Svechnikov?

What actual move could they have done today that would have made you happy?

I don't think they should be trading Hayes either, but I will at least wait until I actually see what happens before judging them for it. Hayes is the type of non-elite talent you seem to be so unexcited for, so if they get someone to overpay that could potentially lead to elite talent I am not sure what the issue is.

Can’t remember the Rangers activity being so dead on first day of free agency and rightfully so. There was nobody that we should have gone after with exception of Tavares, not that we would have been invited to the table anyway.

From '05-'06 to '16-'17 they made the playoffs 11 out of those 12 seasons. I'll take a few bad seasons to rebuild properly than the silk hats of '97-'04. It was a great run but the bill came due.

Come on you are too smart to actually believe the post draft pick ‘we can’t believe he was still there. He was the top of our charts’ bs made after every single pick. It’s said after literally every pick by every team no matter the pick or player. It’s pr nonsense

Our 4th line desperately needs help, and it could have been addressed for cheap. It wasn't addressed.

I understand where this organization is in terms of team building, but rebuilding and literally not caring are two different things.

I agree with you, some of the people here will justify everything the rangers are doing.... I'm not too sold on the direction this team is going. I think they blew the draft and I have no confidence next years draft, scary to think they will probably finish lower in standings and get a better draft choice knowing they will reach with whatever pick they take

Buck up, little camper!
The old saying goes that sometimes the best moves are the ones you don't make. I love that they didn't panic and jump into the fray today. July 1st is like black Friday. You find yourself with a cartload of shit you don't need that nobody asked for because you just couldn't say no. Next year the UFA crop is so much better. A full season of our kids playing, of the new staff getting their balance, a full season of the management assessing what we already have and what we still need will put this team in much better shape than adding some bargain guys who don't really fit at a time we don't need them anyway. I couldn't be happier. Because at the end of Black Friday, did you really need to purchase season 4 of the Sopranos? When the hell are you going to watch that anyway?

As I said, I can accept painful to watch as part of the process.

The problems with teams Like Edmonton is that they can't attract the UFA pieces to fill in the holes once thw kids are ready. That won't be a problem here.

I also happen to thimk that Gorton did well in the past 2 drafts (outside this year's second round) and as long as Kravtsov pans out from this past 1st round we'll be fine, we have the prospect depth at D to absorb a miss or two.

I think the main thing is you just need to have a little faith in the FO, and if you don't you're in for a pretty rough time.

The fact that we stood pat today, coupled with the way last year's draft has panned out so far and the (correct) decision to sell at the deadline gives me that faith.

Montreal reached with 3rd pick and Arizona reached with 5th pick by other people’s standards. They are confident with their picks as the Rangers are with Kravtsov. Can’t judge these decisions for years so why are we still kicking this can around.

I understand not wanting to root for the team to lose, but can anyone here honestly tell me that, if it were guaranteed, they wouldn't prefer drafting Jack Hughes to getting eliminated in the first round of the playoffs?

The real question is first round exit or top 3 pick. There's no way to guarentree Hughes, as you know.

This is a fair point, but decent 4th liners were getting 4y/3m today. No thanks at all.

Oh Montreal and Arizona are confident in their picks, that makes me feel better.

Schaller got 2 x $1.9 and Rieder got 1 x $2.

The only ones who got overpayed are #CharacterGuys like Beagle. And based on everything Gorton has said, that's who we were looking at.

If we got priced out of garbage like that, yeah it's a good thing, but we shouldn't have been looking there.

I agree with you that we need an upgrade on 4th like (because ultimately I do want to see the Rangers look to compete on a nightly basis) but there hasn't been one signing today that made me think the Rangers should have been all over that or outbid it. I'm not looking to sign any 4th liners to 3 year, 3+ million dollar deals.

We were reportedly in on Rieder and he didn't choose us, not much can be done about that. Agreed on Schaller though, would've been a good pickup.

Yeah we went to 3 ECF's in 4 years and we blew it and then tanked the team while our rivals swallowed up all the Cups. Hop hop hooray!

I don't see why I have to be positive. We're in a **** situation.

Drafting 1st overall has its benefits. Pittsburgh and a Washington got lucky and drafted generational talents, then surrounded those talents with core players.

Sather build a good team. He mortgaged years and years of future assets to try and stay competitive. And he did. However, we always fell short.

Good teams don’t win Championships. Great teams do. We didn’t have the assets to trade for great players. We didn’t have a pipeline. Our farm system was as dry as the Sahara.

It was time for change. Embrace the change. Welcome it with open arms and have some ****ing vision, Machinehead.

You know what? Gortons rebuild can collapse like a deck of cards, and ill still be happy. And that’s because we have a GM that’s trying something different than overspending for mercenaries every summer and mortgaging off the future to try and win now.

I have never been this excited about Rangers hockey in my life. Stop being so pessimistic. The future is too bright for that ****.

Because if we pick 2nd we get Svechnikov.
