Those people were clearly not paying attention. You don't send out letters and have press conferences to tell the world you are going to change how you do business, only to go against everything you said a few months later. The writing has been on the wall since before the trade deadline. We aren't buying the most expensive free agents only to waste a few of their prime years while the team undergoes a transformation during which there will be some tough times. You don't go "all in" before your time. It was clear as day for most people to see...everyone else either didn't want to believe it, or didn't believe it. But they told us everything we needed to know.

They may have just pulled a Don Draper and posted an ad saying they were done working in the cigarette industry only to spend years wondering why no one in the cigarette industry wants to work with them.

I don’t think he brings this team anything and I don’t think he’s capable or doing more than he has the past few seasons.
I maybe I overstated what the Rangers would pay but with moves made and expected to be made he could find a spot on a third line.

I was thinking this could actually happen because the Rangers are looking for a gritty guy. I don't know much about Lucic's contract situation though.

His contract situation is not good, but if the Oilers are willing to pay up I'd be willing to take it.

Gorton has followed through on just about everything he said the Rangers were going to do. And some posters kept insisting that the Rangers should pursue Tavares. So did the media.

Cause listening oneself talk is more fun.

For ****s and giggles....

The media needs to type enough words to fill their columns, so that doesn't surprise me. But the idea we should give a 28 year old (come opening night) a 7 year deal when we are at least a couple years away from making any noise made no sense, particularly in light of everything Gorton said.

Oilers always have such a shallow farm, if they give up on Puljujarvi or Yamamoto they have to hate the guy. He has to be the secret video game addict or some shit

I'm a Hartnell fan but why? I really want to give Beleskey a chance. No complaining in the AHL, his style might be en vogue after the caps win. If he plays well and rebounds a bit, he could be the surprise deadline asset like Grabner. It's only like $1.9 and we can retain. If a California team looks poised, that could be a nice trade.

Stastny is the only signing that I would have done at that the term agreed on.

Overall, I don't want to get into a spot where there are so many bottom 6 players we don't know what to do. I know it's cheap but I'd hate to bury a guy like Marchesault or a system player that earned a shot. Save the contracts and make moves as they come. We aren't worried about missed points in October coming back to haunt us.

I'd probably do Zucc for Lucic, Pulju/Yamamoto, McLeod and the '19st.

probably? you'd probably rob the Oilers blind? Edmonton would laugh at Zucc <---> Lucic and any one of those 3 prospects let alone two AND an additional first in a draft that could very well end up turning into Jack Hughes with the way the Oilers play. Go home. you're drunk.

As far as the free agency so far--Gorton has been talking about prepping for this day for a while. I don't think the issue is that the Rangers didn't try to get players. I think the issue is the players either decided to go elsewhere or got better deals than the Rangers were willing to give. The Rangers were interested in Grabner, Reaves, Komarov and Rieder just for four guys and obviously they had some interest in Claessons. Reaves decided on Vegas. Grabner and Komarov got deals that were better for the Rangers to pass on and Rieder decided he'd rather have a shot at playing with McDavid. It is what it is. The Rangers will have a lot of cap space even after Skjei, Hayes, Spooner and Vesey are done. I think they'll find a way of using it before the season is out.

You're drunk bud. I'm not touching that albatross without a big payment. $6M for 5 more years? Riiiight.

Just as capper to the Tavares signing, it sounds like he got a chance to see what real front offices look like as opposed to the clown show on the island, which had an impact.

Very happy we didn't splurge on any UFA here. There are only a small handful of UFA signings that actually end up working out. Hopefully we get a good look at the kids and they get every opportunity to establish themselves.

Top line minutes for Buch too.

Outside of Rieder, I think term was the biggest issue. I heard we wanted Reaves for only one season. Komarov got 4 from the dopes next door. Grabner got three, which may be 1-2 more than we wanted.

It's good that we stuck to our parameters. None of these guys were worth altering our plan.

He may not have a choice.

Maybe Lou goes full Lou and gives him a big deal, but with his relationship with Hank and the work that Aliare has done with other goalies, coming here may be an attractive option for him. He's still just 26, he can get a pretty big pay day if he plays and shows well here even in a limited role.

Lou's going to try to find a goalie. I have no doubt about that. There aren't any Brodeur's laying around on the ground to be picked up though. Lehner IMO is the best proven NHL free agent goalie out there who won't cost him anything more than the terms of his contract. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Isles sign him. Barring that I think he works a trade but it will cost him to get a quality goalie.

The Rangers currently have 5 signed goalies--Lundqvist, Georgiev, Mazanec, Halverson and Nell. They have 4 prospect goalies--Shesterkin, Lindbom, Huska and Wall. I'm not sure we need to add another goalie to be honest and I'm not sure I'd want Lehner anyway. If the Isles do sign him--it might be a bit of an upgrade over Halak but it's going to be pretty average goaltending for them if he's their main guy.

Brooks reported that state taxes came into play and Reaves wanted more $'s from the Rangers and the Rangers wouldn't budge.
