GDT: Free Agent Frenzy--9am PST, 7/1/15

I wonder why Justin Williams hasn't found a home yet. Anyone want to guess where he ends up? I'll guess Washington and NYI.

Washington is my guess. They are as bad in game 7s as the Ducks.

I think the delay is him wanting $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I just don't see us going into the season with this...

Muzzin-Doughty
McNabb-Forbort
Martinez-Greene
Gravel

Would be very unlike Deano.

Muzzin/Doughty
McNabb/Buff
Forbort/Greene
Schultz

Don't worry, it'll happen. :naughty:

1 trade replaces the size lost from Regehr/Mitchell/Scuderi leaving.

One thing is for sure, the Pacific has gotten much better this offseason, no way the Kings sleepwalk through the regular season and make the playoffs

Yup totally agree. Young teams made some huge trades and signings to take a big step forward. Luckily we get a full offseason of rest and hunger and will hopefully have some youth and speed driving us forward too.

It was not up to the Kings to 'afford' that, it was Sekera's choice, he didn't want to sign here. He is the one who makes that decision, and part of that was getting an NMC, which the Kings didn't offer.

He picked a good young team that over that 6 years, who have a good manamgent in place, finally , a good coach, MacDavid, and will be one of the young rising teams in the league.

Thanks!

Can anyone explain why the Savard/Pronger contracts matter in these trades? Other than real salary implications, they change nothing regarding the cap, no?

1) Richards situation is not resolved
2) Kopitar is gonna get a big raise
3) Lucic if the Kings want to keep him needs to get paid.
4) Voynov could be back on the team by years end.
5) It was a 6 year deal at 5.5 million for Sekera. That would take us past the Doughty re-up, and with the Richards things not resolved we could get popped with 4 million plus in in a few years.
6) Its about freaking time Forbort plays in the NHL, he has been groomed enough.

That's all I got for now. :-)

Thanks!

He's one of the big dogs this year, he gets to take his time and make the right selection. That and I think he probably has his pick from a big list of teams. This is his time to get his payday and call all the shots.

He also received a full NMC and we can't risk that with our salary structure.

I know exactly what a regular season defense looks like and so does Sutter, that's why he moved Muzzin down to the second pair when Martinez wasn't getting it done. At this point Martinez is about to be 28 and he has only excelled on the third pair, it is what it is.

Damacles has continually pointed this out as well.

Martinez is a younger, sexier version of Greene. Excels with protected and limited ice time. Is exposed on higher pairings. I don't understand the fascination with this player, nor the wishful thinking that he could somehow turn into a second pairing PMD. He may have stretches where he can play to that caliber, but it's nothing consistent.

Pronger helps the Coyotes hit the cap floor to the tune of a 4.93 million cap hit while they only pay him $525,000. Same goes with Florida. Savard is only paid $575,000 but has a cap hit of $4.027 million

Yes they do, nothing says you have to put them on LTIR. Boston and Philly do because they spend to the cap. So they will likely sit on IR all year for teams just trying to get to the floor while spending as few real dollars as possible, but not go on LTIR.

It all comes down to flexibility. You can go over by 10% during the summer months on the cap. But you MUST be cap compliant on the day before the season starts and can't move that person to LTIR until the day of the season. So if you don't have pieces that are save to move you risk losing them.
In the case of Pronger Arizona isn't a cap team and it gives them money that counts towards the floor and is most likely paid via insurance.

No, both count against cap but with LTIR teams get relief if/when they exceed upper limit.

I want to see proof of this. People keep echoing this and don't provide any support. I agree that a lot of what he's done he has done in sheltered minutes on the third pairing, but there's nothing to suggest he would be awful as a full-time second pairing guy other than his first NHL stint and his time spent with Regehr on the 2nd pairing this year...Regehr, the Stoll of the defense.

Martinez would be a good 2nd pairing PMD on almost any team in the league.

Got it, I thought LTIR was more or less automatic for some reason.

Bud Holloway just signed a 1 year deal with the Montreal Canadiens, what could you tell me about him when he was with you guys? Was he ever close to make the team at one point?
