Yes they do, nothing says you have to put them on LTIR. Boston and Philly do because they spend to the cap. So they will likely sit on IR all year for teams just trying to get to the floor while spending as few real dollars as possible, but not go on LTIR.

They would still put them on LTIR for roster spot reasons. The funny thing about LTIR is that is only effects the cap ceiling, not the cap floor

They will still go to LTIR. That counts towards the floor and the players share. And gives the team another roster spot. Otherwise they would only be able to carry 22 players not 23.

That's what I am saying is it won't effect them, because they won't be near the ceiling, that money only gets bumped if adding a player to fill his spot would push you over.

Bud Holloway just signed a 1 year deal with the Montreal Canadiens, what could you tell me about him when he was with you guys? Was he ever close to make the team at one point?

He is going to shatter Gretzky's records

Anyone else laughing that he had to take a 2 way contract? Can't wait to see how much.

Bud "Millions from the KHL" Holloway.

This is going to be the make or break year for AMart in terms of gauging his ceiling. Early on, his metrics were bad in terms of possession, but the Kings outscored the opposition by a ton when he was on the ice. It was the largest goal differential on the team IIRC. Then he got boarded in Tampa and that's all she wrote. He's not the possession beast like Muzzin, so he couldn't carry RR and Greene. But Voynov (if he makes it back) and McNabb are both better than those guys. If he's partnered with either, I would imagine he would play better. After his concussion, he never returned to form. So here's hoping the long off-season was good for him.

Agreed for the most part. Not with the make or break year comment. But everything else is spot on. Something about outscoring your opponents when he was on the ice "sounds great!" Here's also hoping the long rest heals him.

I want to see proof of this. People keep echoing this and don't provide any support. I agree that a lot of what he's done he has done in sheltered minutes on the third pairing, but there's nothing to suggest he would be awful as a full-time second pairing guy other than his first NHL stint and his time spent with Regehr on the 2nd pairing this year...Regehr, the Stoll of the defense.

Martinez would be a good 2nd pairing PMD on almost any team in the league.

Couldn't agree more. Why people keep bringing Martinez up as trade bait is beyond me. His ability to escape the zone with the puck is second only to Doughty on the team. He gets his shots through on the power play. If he wasn't constantly placed with the least mobile defensemen on the team his stats would be much better.

Damacles has continually pointed this out as well.

Martinez is a younger, sexier version of Greene. Excels with protected and limited ice time. Is exposed on higher pairings. I don't understand the fascination with this player, nor the wishful thinking that he could somehow turn into a second pairing PMD. He may have stretches where he can play to that caliber, but it's nothing consistent.

Deano wouldn't of given AMart his 6 year contract if AMart wasn't producing on the ice. He was, until he got concussed. Let's give him the chance again on the 2nd pairing. He deserves it.

A-Mart has to play better. Or at least split the 2nd pairing with Muzzin more frequently. I think Forbort being brought up will help minutes.

Forbort can chew a lot of minutes up.

Forbort eating up minutes effectively would be great to see.

Why can't one think that Amart's a legit 2nd pairing dman, AND also look to trade him? I don't see what one has to do with the other.

Than he did last year? Absolutely. That goes for a lot of people, though, and the problem is people are ignoring his history of stellar play and using his rough stretch as representative of his true ability.

Muzzin/Doughty
McNabb/Buff
Forbort/Greene
Schultz

Don't worry, it'll happen. :naughty:

1 trade replaces the size lost from Regehr/Mitchell/Scuderi leaving.

Once again AMart mysteriously disappears. He isn't and won't be going anywhere. For Buff, maybe another 1st ('17) and Forbort?

Doty/Muzzin
AMart/Buff
McNabb/Green
Schultz

There is nothing wrong with that though . The critics have every right to want more out of A Mart and his 4 million dollar salary.

Just like Brown is getting what he deserves.

A Mart increased his minutes and matchups last season and performed below his standard . Now A Mart did get hurt . Still , there is nothing wrong with wanting more from the guy.

Exactly, nobody who underperformed gets a pass for last year. Martinez was given a chance due to circumstance to play a larger roll and he struggled. Considering his salary he's gotta play better. The same goes for Brown

Hey if we are going to list moves that aren't based on reality then I would have liked to have signed a couple of guys today for $11 dollars and a happy meal. But that would never happen just like Sekera's deal had to include an NMC. If he didn't insist on that being part of his deal I believe he would be wearing a Kings jersey today and for the next 6 years.

Wanting more is one thing, using his play when he had the possession anchor known as Regehr while the entire team struggles as representative of his true ability is not. That's the beef I have with this, people are looking at his rougher stretch last year and going welp, he's a bottom pairing d-man. He's not. If he is, he's literally the best bottom pairing d-man in the league by the metrics and probably the eye test as well.

I think we're going to see him on our 2nd pair whether we want to or not if there are no other moves so we'll get to see what he can really bring but it was pretty clear that everyone put with Regehr struggled and everyone moved away from him did not. The minutes and tougher assignments, I want to agree, but tough to say until we see him take those minutes without Regehr (or Greene--Martinez-Greene is NOT a 2nd pairing but it was acting as one when we had McNabb-McBain out there together) too.

The Kings don't like giving out NMCs. Maybe this was a sticking point.

It was absolutely THE sticking point. Sekera has already said that knowing he will remain in EDM for the next 6 years is not only good for him but also his family. DL isn't one to give out NMC's and here we are.
