William Nylander is careless and bad defensively. He will never play with Auston Matthews again.

People need to stop suggesting that. It would severely hurt AM's defensive impact.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
_______ - Tavares - Nylander
_______ - _______ - _______
_______ - Kampf - Aube-Kubel

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Holl
Gio - Liljegren

Murray
Samsonov

9.519M cap space

This is how I see it right now.
Feels like somethings gotta give unless we get everyone on super cheap contracts

what names are still out there (outside of Kadri obviously) that would be an upgrade over Kerfoot if we decide to move him?

Looks about right.
I’m thinking the teams looking at an offensive third line with youth.
Kerfoot flanked by Marlies/low money guys. About 5.5 mil?
Engvall on the fourth line. <~2mil?
Leaves about 2 mil for maybe Heinen to flank JT/WN. Or maybe a lesser placeholder type to keep the spot warm for Knies?
With outside chance at moving Kerf to create some $flexibility. Or Sandin for a young forward.

Florida looks to be signing Balcers who was the best bargain bin FA left. This is shaping up to be a very boring off season.
Was an interesting name, but there’s still a bunch left.

There’s been a lot of concern and criticism expressed by a lot of the media talking heads about what’s happened with our roster in the last few days. A lot of talk of us being worse, and while that’s technically true at the moment, largely imo because we aren’t finished, it feels a little ridiculous to talk so much about the step back we are taking (again unfinished) and not mention at all everyone that Tampa and Florida have lost as well.

Tampa’s losses of Palat and McDonagh are far more significant than anything we have lost. Florida lost Giroux, Marchment and others - apparently might traded Weegar

We are far from the lone cap victims atop the Atlantic division

I do believe that Matthews wants to play with Marner. Separating them may upset the one player on this team that they absolutely need to keep happy.

You are right as far as the good teams go. The bad teams seem to be closing the gap some between themselves and the good teams though. Leafs might have to work up a sweat to make the playoffs this year unlike the last two.

Welcome to the cap. Still a sizeable gap though.

We were a 115 point team with the 8th worst goaltending. We're making the playoffs.

Neiderrieter, Stastny and D.Strome.

They're not trading him or Holl. The options to replace Holl have dried as well.

They'll probably wait for the price on ZAR and Motte to come down and give one of them a 1M per deal like Aube-Kubel.

1.) most people thought they were a bubble team last year

2.) Toronto had the worst record against all the junk teams that improved out of Florida. Tampa. Boston.

We already lose to ottawa Columbus and buffalo. What difference does it make

3.) Toronto changed proven bad goaltending for questionable goaltending. They lost bit pieces they performed without.

Florida and Tampa lost core peices. Bostons whole team is injured.

If anything the rest of the team drop back to the pack and TO is pretty much the same

Forward UFAs are getting very thin. Dylan Strome, Paul Stastny, Nino Niederreiter, Danton Heinen, and Evan Rodrigues are probably the guys who could play a middle 6 role (rather than distinctly being bottom 6 guys). Not sure if I'm missing anyone else.
