Nah, Avs would sign him for free in the off-seasonBack to Colorado it is for Rantanen and the Avs trade Girard to Carolina for Rantanen.
That’s it, your whole argument?Jones instantly becomes 1D in CAR. 9.5 not nearly as bad as it was prior to cap increase. He's also playing lights out since inj. return
But what do you have to offer? Your trade assets consist of "things you're not giving up for a rental" and "things that don't really seem appealing for Carolina."Canucks have cap space and are most definitely looking for a top 6 F. They will be in on the Rantanen sweepstakes if he reaches july 1.
Selling points will be:
1. Playing with Q Hughes
2. Living in a world class city
3. 14mil/year for 7 years.

I assume you're not moving NHL assets and weakening your chances this year if you're shopping for a rental top-6 F.
Imagine wanting to go play in that unstable mess.I thought it was clear, but i meant the Canucks would be after Rantanenn if he made it to July 1st as a UFA.
I missed that. There's been a lot of silly talk we'd flip him if he won't extend by the TDL.I thought it was clear, but i meant the Canucks would be after Rantanenn if he made it to July 1st as a UFA.

Unless someone is prepared to go $15M AAV, I think we've backed ourselves into beating any offer. If Rantanen won't sign in Carolina, it won't be because of money.
Where do you guys get this stuff? Strong arming???Agreed with all above. Rightly or wrongly, it feels like Carolina still feels scorned about how things played out last year with Guentzel and are trying to feel better about it by locking down Rantanen ASAP. And I don't really blame them for wanting to do so. But if you're Rantanen who just saw Guentzel leave after Carolina had a more promising regular season/playoff run than TB and probably had around the same amount of money on the table as he did in Tampa, that might give you pause as to why he didn't want to stick around. I think you're right about both Rantanen feeling hurt by the trade and not vibing down there yet. This is totally subjective but something just feels a little "off" about the Canes. It feels like every year they ice a great team "on paper," have a consensus great coach in Brind'amour, and now supposedly have a genius GM in Tulsky, but they haven't made a significant dent in the playoff bracket yet and (although the sample size is tiny) they went out and got their true superstar and it didn't click immediately like they were probably hoping. Now it seems like they're trying to strongarm him into signing somewhere he didn't even think about playing a month or two ago for the rest of his prime/most of his career. Will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out

As a Canes fan I think he can be a great fit with Aho but I think the team needed a 2C more than a great goal scorer. Everyone makes a big deal about the Canes needing that 50ft player but even if we have that guy with KK at 2C I don’t see us as a threat. Paying that 50ft guy the money we’re talking about when they still have other holes in the lineup isn’t my first choice. It’s possible that Rantanen is worth it, but so far it’s hard to argue he’s worth that with Carolina. You gotta feel that he needs to show he has chemistry with the team before locking that in.
He has undeniable talent, but that talent is just as important as being a good fit for the team.
No. I meant if someone else was willing to go 15x7. I don't think we'd go that high on AAV...but we have the 8th year to bring down AAV.15x 8 is 120 million . Thats obviously a lot of money.
Every other team would have to offer around 17 mil for 7 years to compete with that.
It would definitely seem like a non money decision if he was to not re-sign in Carolina.
Is Carolina willing to trade him by the trade deadline if Rantanen's agent confirms that Rantannen is going to free agency?
They have the advantage of offering the extra year, but still...I mean considering that they didn't meet Guentzel's ask until he was already on the way out, count me skeptical at this.
8 years at $13 million a year should get it done but I'm skeptical the Canes will do it.
They should move him if he won't resign. It would be terrible asset management in back to back years. Canes front office are notorious for being cheap and or taking too long to make long term offers. Not sure why Rantanen would want to sign for 8 years anyways. He wanted to stay in Colorado but got greedy. It would be kind of stupid at this point to not test free agency and see what's out there. Maybe he does circle back to the Canes in the end. But he should at least check.Colorado couldn't do $12.5m x 8? He has to be asking for more.
Rantanen would be perfect beside Stutzle... If CAR doesn't have a contract in place before the trade deadline, would they keep him as a "self rental" rental or look to move him?
He doesn't fit the playstyle of Carolina. I have no idea why Carolina traded for him. Maybe Necas really really wanted out and Carolina decided to gamble a bit as Rantanen will be an UFA anyway, so they don't lose much. And with the cap increasing, they can just hire someone else. Why he sucking right now.
What playstyle does he fit then?He doesn't fit the playstyle of Carolina. I have no idea why Carolina traded for him. All the "pundits" were praising this trade and how he's exactly what the Canes need. Give this guy longer than 6 games and a plague running through the team.He doesn't fit the playstyle of Carolina. I know what you're getting at...Market law. I fully agree with you."Just because the housing market goes up doesn't mean that you should expect to get more for your house".

I think this is the main reason they are giving it all they got to get something done.I know what you're getting at...Market law. I fully agree with you.
But the player or your house is still not "worth" more...
Its the GM and buyer who overpays for it or think it is (for whatever reason)
One can (!!) lead to a lockout (worst case) and buyouts that hurt the team in general, the other to a real estate bubble that bursts. Like in 2007-2008.....
Take John Klingberg. He thought he is worth at least 8 mill per year. Well, guess what fella, you were not. And basically every GM came to that conclusion. Unfortunately, most of the time the same GMs dont act that "smart".
We can all agree that there will be plenty of "GM (or dummys)" out there offering the bank to Rantanen, or Mitch Marner when they hit FA. Hell, i fully expect some moron to even go to 14 or 14+.....
More so Colorado did not even want to do "12.5" x 8.....
If they dont win the cup this year and Rantanen walks straight into UFA, i would say they lost not only this trade, but also some reputation....
That will be the 2nd year in a row, that a highly UFA walks from Carolina.....
I dont know what you mean by unstable mess? are players not getting their paycheques?
