The depth will barely matter if they keep going quiet. This is our core. If they don't start winning us playoff series, it won't matter who's playing 10-15 mins in the bottom 6. The amount of offence from those lines is nearly negligible on all good teams. The core guys run the show. Hopefully they take a step one of these years.
It's more expected from a core player, but someone has to break out in an elimination game. That's what it comes down to.

What are the Leafs' remaining depth needs?

- one RHD
- 4th line C
- bottom 6 RW

Anything else that's vacant?

2nd Line LW with some size and ability to win pucks and get to the net.
3rd Line RW with some size and ability to get hard on the forecheck.
3rd Line LW, which is likely to be Pierre Engvall, but we still haven't signed him,
4th Line C who PKs and plays with loads of energy.

2nd pair RD to play with either Rielly or Muzzin.

TSN is just pointing out that the Leafs have generally lost pieces off the roster and it’s a crap shoot in net currently.

The division got more competitive. You can say they had a franchise season but it’s a new year.

Matthews and Marner are special, everyone knows this but as a team it’s not well constructed today.
The only teams that arugably got better are a couple of the bottom teams, and that still remains to be seen. And the Leafs main rivals all got significantly weakened.

Leafs only losses of note are Mikheyev and Boosh. Both of whom only played half a season or less.

If only we already had a physical RD who is under 3M who already played with Rielly

And he struggled there. He is a #6 making twice as much as he is worth.

He can't PK. He is not particularly great as a shutdown guy. He is mostly just a physical guy who lets Rielly do his thing, but Rielly has made guys who can let his do his thing look a lot better than they are. Lyubushkin is not special in any other way beyond that.

Lyubushkin is not a good defenseman at 2.75 mill. He is worth half of that.

Apparently Dubas declined the invitation to come on Overdrive today. I absolutely love that. Why come on a station who will rip you all year, ask you soft ball questions when you do come on, and than rip you again when you are off.
They rip the moves he makes, not him. They also praise him when he makes good moves.

Agreed here

Arguably a worse team right now, but we are aways from the start of the season. Too many questions marks.

Ho hum!

Tampa, Florida, and Boston are all weaker today than they were last season, especially Florida. We lost a 2/3W, a goalie who was dogshit after November, a goalie who was injured all year, a 7D who was by far the worst defenseman on the playoff roster, and some depth F. Only Mikheyev hurts slightly, and he can be replaced.

Ottawa improved from a bad team to a team with good offense, but has terrible defense and huge question marks in net. The Wings just paid a lot of money to a bunch of guys that will push them from "really bad" to won't be eliminated in November, Buffalo still has ways to go, and Montreal is a mess.
