You really undervalue how good Mac or Shattenkirk are.

This. And they're worse at center than we are right now. They'd likely only move him FOR a center since they don't really play him there. Prolly a reason for that.
 
We need columbus to blink and get a fill in center. Get them out of the Duchene process. I do not want to get in a bidding war with a division rival.

We dodged a bullet there. I was on the Thornton train until he wanted multi year. He was always going back the sj if it was 1 year. That money is too much for his impact. I can look passed his injury, but not that plus the money plus multiple years.
 
Does anyone have the time frame this season for when Galchenyuk played center? I'll do a dive into his analytics in that short time frame

Assuming our top 4 is:
Mcdonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith

Deangelo - we just traded for him so why would we trade him
Graves - still maybe a year away but could challenge for a bottom pair role
Pionk - honestly dont know anything about him so idk but he just signed so probably wont be traded
bear gloves- just signed will play in NY or go to KHL
Day - too far away and too little value to trade
Zboro - too far away


The way i see it is our defense is fixed and in 4 years time Shattenkirk and Smith will most likely be gone and the new wave will be stepping up in their spots

So, what do we think the plan is with Staal...?

Is there a contract for contract trade to be had (presuming he waives his NMC)?

Could they really be thinking of buying him out on top of G? That would be a LOT of dead money for a LONG time.

I'm not saying he's not, but I could certainly see a scenario where a team comes along that missed out on some of these D guys and is willing to pony up for a young cost controlled guy with huge potential.

I think they got DeAngelo to be Shattenkirk's understudy.

Honestly I could see Buchnevich getting dealt before DeAngelo.

Staal is the odd man out. Find a team with some bad contracts up front. Bjugstad is one example. Brown from LA.

Get him off the team and all of a sudden they need the young defensemen they have.

Is he? I think they just buy him out next off season. Bjugstad isn't very good and they don't need a wing like Brown.
