I must be in a small minority who basically want nothing to do with Matthew for at least the next few years. Brothers will always say the "right" thing when a microphone is shoved in their face but I don't believe for a second that these guys are gonna play nice with each other when they're on the same team.
I don't know why so many see that as a good fit, especially with Brady being captain and the younger brother. Just doesnt add up to a good situation imo based on their personalities in particular, but there have been some brothers play together I guess.

Agreed. Matthew doesn't come across as the subservient big brother. Both he and Brady are alpha males and inevitably they would clash.
Right now one guy on the Sens is the dominant male and that's Brady. he's got his right hand man in Chabby and everyone else falls in line. Debrincat took a back seat to Kane and Toews in Chicago and he'll be fine doing the same in Ottawa. Giroux comes in as the senior advisor. He'll choose when and where to speak up and Brady is smart enough to listen to him. Chemistry wise this team is set right now. Adding the right pieces to keep that chemistry will be key in the team's development.

Debrincat is a better fit ( chemistry wise) on the Sens than Matthew T. I bet Debrincat signs long term here.
He might be and yeah he might sign long term. It would have been cool to at least get a few seasons of the Tkachuk brothers playing together though.

This is Brady's team. We were never going to get Matthew.
It is Brady's team but that seems untrue that we were never going to get Matthew. Brady has stated publicly that it would be awesome to play on the same team as his brother. There is a really good chance that the Sens would have acquired Matthew if he was available leading up to the draft.

We need to stop evaluating trades based on how the players careers end up.

If we traded Mark Stone for three firsts and none panned out, would that have been a bad trade? If we had traded him for a 2021 7th rounder that turned into a hall-of-famer, would that have been a good trade?
Excellent point. When picks are involved, especially the centerpiece, the trade value ends once the pick is given. Barring a top 5 first round pick or something where there's consensus on who goes where.

In the infinite vastness of the multiverse, there are other realities where the original picks GM picks the same player... But it's probably not our reality. That probability only goes down the further down the draft pick is.

So you have to fall back on the relative value of the pieces in the moment. There's value and insight to be gained in analysing players careers and how moves panned out, of course, but it's different information.

Zibby is a good example. A lot of people revise that trade because of how his career developed outside of Ottawa. Like there's some inherent guarantee that he would have become what he is here... Nurture has as much a part to play in our development as nature does. Lots of guys have all the talent in the world and never figure it out for one reason or another. Life works the other way too.

For a second round pick I would have just rather keep him than lose him for nothing. Unless that 2nd gets rid of Zaitsev and they are confident they can replace the money or roster spot in another way.
We are at 66M in real spend with 2 forwards and a D to go. We have around 8M to sign those 3 spots - Formenton, Joseph and Brannstrom which should only cost 5M max this year. That leaves 3M and Dorion really wants to upgrade the D so 2.5 out with Zaitsev leaves around 5.5M to replace him.

All this doesn’t take into account the 4M in potential performance bonuses for Pinto, Stutzle and Sanderson some of which will easily be met.

Money is getting too tight to pay Brown 4M with our new top 6.

Kevin Francis' main source is a guy with a colander on his head who claims to pick up Dorion's voicemail messages with his dental fillings.

Edit: That said, Calgary is the one team in the league who has two, good, top-4 RHD we could both realistically acquire and they might realistically give up.

There is no way we can afford Tkachuk even if he took the same deal as Brady.

I would imagine it would mean moving Zaitsev+ someone in the top 6, likely Batherson. We could definitely make it work, its how badly do we want to make it work? I think the answer is probably not bad enough, but boy it would be fun to watch those 2 on the same team. We would be one of the hardest teams to play come April/May

you guys are overthinking this so much.

pretty sure the majority of athletes would love to play with their brother. including the Tkachuk's who i believe have gone on record to say its a dream for them.

imagine winning a championship with your brother. nothing better.

Totally agree. Saku Koivu had an opportunity to play in Minnesota but he declined because his younger brother Miko was the Wild captain and he didn't want to step on his toes. I much happier with DeBrincat than I would have been with Matthew Tkachuk.

When has Matthew ever come out and said he would like to play with his little brother? Especially on his brother's team?

Yeah, I’d want to play with my bro for sure if it was possible personally.

nearly everyone would. If you both play sports and rise to the top there is no one else who has shared your journey as much as your brother.

from playing mini stick hockey together pretending its the Stanley Cup Finals to actually lifting the real trophy together is Disney level dream come true.
