Two reasons, one he’s more of the same as we have and more importantly he has 2 more years on his contract with Winnipeg

also he wouldn't sign a 2 way deal lol. He's a legit NHL defenseman

I think I am fully on the sign Klingberg wagon now. Get the piece we need and get to keep our assets? Heck ya, if he'd take similar term to Giroux too even better.

Klingberg has had the worst plus/minus on the stars three years running. He's a shadow of the player he once was. He has reportedly been asking for a contract in the seven million per over seven year range. I wouldn't touch him even on a one or two year contract.

Klingberg is not a guy I want to sign long term. His play really fell off last year and he looked timid, confused and poor defensively.

I’d only be ok with a one year deal

Brett Pesce is on a 2 year contract at $4 million is a solid solid RD, Carolina in a bit of Cap trouble with their RFAs. I doubt they’d trade him but they have depth at RD, would have to give up a lot

Ott: Pesce
Car: 2023 1st (top 5 protected), Ostapchuk

Would you roll into the season with the D the way it is? Chychrun seems too expensive and I don't think Florida is moving Weegar. With Marino dealt, JK seems to be the best option as of right now.

Carolina is in win now mode. Highly doubt they would trade him.

Agree; but they have some depth their with some guys they have drafted and they’ll need to do something. Doubtful I agree but maybe he can be wedged outta there.

Let's give some context.

1. He's lead defensemen in scoring on the Stars 7 out of 8 years he's played. Including his rookie season. It would be 8/8 but he got injured in 2019-20 and missed too many games but he still had a higher points/per game rate though.

2. Until 2019-20, and before Dallas hired a new coach and changed systems, he was a positive +/- despite the team being outscored over the season. Among defensemen in plus/minus on his team, he finished first three times, once twice, and once third.

3. He's finished 6th in Norris voting twice. He's also a three time allstar.

4. In his rookie year, he finished with 21:50 minutes played per game. He's never fallen below 22 minutes since.

5. Despite his "plus/minus" struggles, he's right along his normal career trend for Corsi, Fenwick etc.., His assists per 60, points per 60, etc.. Only a few advanced stats show any decline.

6. His "expected +/-" for advanced stats shows a consistent trend over the last three years of severe underperformance based on where shots were coming from and league average shooting. Something is up with the way he is being asked to play and what kind of saves he's getting.

I'm not saying he's still a perpetual Norris candidate, but he is one of the few players who has good underlying numbers despite red flags. Most guys who have red flags get those flags confirmed by advanced stats. That said, you're right, he's 29 and there are some significant worries about offering him a blank cheque.

He's in the same position Wade Redden was in when he left Ottawa. That decline was STEEP.

Well clearly nobody is giving him that kind of money or term otherwise he likely would have signed by now.
Maybe he is gearing towards a short term deal to rebuild his value.

We are running out of options on defense and I would much rather him to Tyler Myers, JC is clearly too pricey and Weegar is staying in Florida. Marino has already been dealt. Klingberg is likely our best, most realistic option left

Holl would easily be our second best RD. It’s just too bad we’d be helping the Leafs.

Leafs will probably be able to trade Holl for an asset, or at least for nothing.

A decent 3rd pairing RD that only costs 2M is probably worth at least a mid-round pick, even in this buyers market.

I wonder if we do a EK at 40% (6.6m) trade. Zaitzev + a sweetener goes the other way.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Debricat - Stutzle - Giroux
Formenton - Pinto - Joseph
Kelly - Kastellic -Watson

Chabot - Zub
Sanderson - Karlsson
Holden - Hamonic

Talbot
Forsberg

Honestly speaking thats a playoff roster lol. Sucks that the bridges are burned and this isn't a possibility.

I thought I was the only one here that thought he was good. At least he seemed to be when they played us, and I though he looked good in round 1
He looks good in short spurts. But overall he's pretty crappy.

Nope. I would have him fourth behind Zub, Hamonic and Holden. Yes, worst than Holden playing his off-side. Just say no to Holl.

Once again, credit Dorion for acquiring hamonic last season. If not...we'd be in mad panic. With him, we're adequate on the back end at least and he can help Sanderson a lot.

I still want someone, but who knows anymore.

Someone is gonna get bored soon and start linking us to Subban, you can feel it coming.

I really would still bet on Zaitsev out the door and a new body brought in, for better or worse. Its been talked about way too much imo and that includes Dorion, Garrioch, Giroux and countless other "insiders".

I'm still putting my chips on that personally.

Maybe Barrie becomes available now that Yamamoto and Puljujarvi have elected arbitration? They could easily hit 6.5 or even 7M together, at which point Edmonton will have to do something.

I'm not the biggest Barrie guy, but he puts up points, he can run a PP, he's not signed long-term, Dorion likes him, he doesn't have an NTC, etc..

I'm sure they'd like to move Puljujarvi, but it might be hard to find him a team if he's making 3.5M.

IDK, I'm sure we can get Barrie for a song, but Edmonton would then have to find a new RHD and won't ahve a ton of cap room.
