Just sucks if we missed out on him cause of that that is all. His price was cheap they even retained and he would have been useful for at least 1 - 2 years maybe even all 3.

I'm not sure if we'll ever know, but Carolina has a lot more in common with Texas.

We'll also never know if our offer was higher and they settled for less with Carolina after our deal fell through.

Yeah they all said they think they push for a playoff spot. They do also say they need to address their D core. Which they are 100 percent correct.
I think that having the puck on your stick more, the upfront guys, should also help the defence?

Dorion is just breakng his back moving heaven and earth to build a squad; meanwhile, Yzerman is just dishing out cheap contracts to great players without breaking a sweat.

This may be Dorion's summer but it's still Yzerman's world.
I wouldn't call any of the Wing's signings "great " players. Some like Perron are good. But Copp is not even a .5 point a game guy in his career ; Husso is relatively unproven and Chiarot is on the downturn of his career.

For sure. Sorry I am not trying to derail this into a vaccine debate was just interested in if that was the reason we didn't land him or part of it.

Detroit's signings feel like when my team sucks ass in NHL 21 gm mode and I sign random dudes in free agency just because I can

I'm not sure how anyone can look at Ottawa's moves this offseason and look at Detroit's and think that Detroit's are more impressive lol.

I dunno Husso was great last year and why St Louis made the playoffs, Chiarot has been steady and is only 31 and didn't sign an albatross contract and adds some stability. Copp is overpaid but can slot all over the place and shit Gudbransson got 4x4 so wtf do I know.

LOL, Jeff O'Neill is right about Talbot/Murray/Campbell.

"I don't get it. Everyone (GMs) is saying they upgraded their goalies but they all just exchanged goalies. So who are actually the good goalies here?"

Ottawa and Edmonton can say that they've upgraded, I think.

In Ottawa, there's a very small chance that Talbot will be as bad as Murray was here. He may not be a true #1. He may not be an all-star. But I'd bet a lot of money that he won't be the same disaster.

In Edmonton, just like in Ottawa, Campbell may not be a workhorse #1, but there were points last year where Smith and Koskinen were unplayable.

The Leafs are by far the biggest question, because they've actually had good goaltending since 16/17. Who knows if Murray/Samsonov can keep that going.

Why is TSN bringing politics into the NHL ?

Edit:

I should have been more specific. Geno Reda asking if the NHL should celebrate his goal achievement if he breaks the record because of his affiliation to Putin.

Husso 57 career games. Jury is still out. Copp is OK but got 5 years at $5.63 per and never had over 15 goals or 40 pts until last year ( his 7th season)

Ya Copp is overpaid but that's how free agency works. If both Ned and Husso play like shit ya Yzerman screwed up but I think they are both young and both have shown they can be good goalies.

Tough return for Brown.

With that said, it's clear that players with even modest salaries are difficult to trade, while GMs are happy to throw money at UFAs.

Maybe we can get a guy like Marino for a bargain if Pittsburgh is trying to open space for someone still on the market. Or if the Islanders end up paying Gaudreau $10M+, maybe we can pry one of their D away...

Also, the acquisitions we've made probably made Brown want out even more, and his agent probably made that clear. No more PP time or playing in the top 6 isn't great if you're in a contract year trying to cash in... Not sure he'll get that much more opportunity in Washington, but that's not on us. I bet he's very, very upset that he won't be on McDavid's wing. Went from potentially scoring 55-60 pts to 35-40. Might be a loss of $1.5M per year on his next deal.

Wouldn’t mind getting a versatile bottom 6 winger, maybe someone like Tyler Motte. Not exactly sold on Kelly being an everyday NHL winger yet and not a fan of Watson as a player.
